I love Kai and Gannin together.
This is a new to me author, so I had no expectations.
I loved this book.
*possible spoilers*
My singular complaint is sometimes the dialogue was hard to follow in regards to who was speaking. Otherwise, I enjoyed just about everything else. From the first page, I was sucked right in. The plot is a touch cheesy, but it’s written well and character/dialogue driven (which I prefer). Gannon and Kai’s banter had me laughing out loud throughout the story. They are opposites in so many ways, but they just work together and definitely have some hot chemistry. There were quite a few side characters that were also written well and leave you wanting to know more about them.
An unexpected part of the book that I ended up liking – there are a few different point of views peppered into the story. It’s only a few parts in the book, but it kind of threw me off at first. I do think it was done well and there’s lots of set up for future books in this series!
This is a reread for me, for sure. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s so good that I’m eager to read the first book and the rest of the series. I also look forward to going through this author’s backlist.
I think I have a new book to add to my favorite shelf. With drama, action, sweet confessions, and a whole lot of steam to drool over, this is easily one of my favorite reads of the year. I was immediately drawn into the story and was glad I chose to start the book after my kids were in bed because I didn’t stop reading until it I got to the end. There was something so captivating about Kai and Gannin and the story itself was believable. Add in a fantastic cast that’s absolutely going to bring me back for more and I’m sold.
Kai is quirky, amusing, brash, and exactly what Gannin needs in his life to find his mellow. I liked that Kai knows himself, makes no excuses, and still thinks before he acts most of the time. There are some characters that think they know more than they do and unwittingly put themselves and many others in more danger than without their “assistance” and Kai wasn’t like that. Yes, he wanted to have more control over what he did, but when push came to shove, he let others take the lead. What really made him memorable to me was his personality and the way he was with Gannin. He wasn’t in so much denial to everyone and himself about his feelings, he merely had no experience with deeper connections and wasn’t completely convinced that he was diving headlong into love.
And with Gannin there to catch him, there was nowhere safer to land. Gannin is a big, hard man who is focused beyond most people’s capability. His honesty and determination rule his life and there’s no other way I would want him to be. He’s made of loyalty and passion, he just hasn’t yet had a focus outside his job that earned all of him. While his attraction to the crazy man-child bothered him at first, it didn’t take long to become something he didn’t want to be without. The straightforward way he treated Kai and his feelings toward him totally won me over. He was clear, direct, and so surprisingly soft that I pretty much melted.
The steam was another case of melting, for sure. Their chemistry was beyond palpable and I loved that it didn’t take the center stage for the whole book, that there were different facets to their relationship that balanced out their passion. It also didn’t dominate the story’s overall plot. We got a whole lot of non-sexual action too so I felt the story was extremely well balanced. There was a slightly more disturbing part and I found that believable and that it added depth to the story where so many other novels produce the nick-of-time saves when we all know that’s so unlike reality.
I’ve found that I’m at a loss when trying to think about the story’s negative aspects and I’m supremely thrilled that I’m having this problem. I suppose I could sing its praises again, but I’m sure you’re tired of reading my thoughts at this point, so we’ll just leave it at, “This book was awesome and I immensely enjoyed reading it.”
This is the second book in the Yours to Protect series. It’s an action story and is a great book to read. James and Gannin are on the run from the mobster. It’s intense, funny, and romantic. The two main characters are perfect together and are I hated for the book to end.
Who say falling in love is easy!
James Kairo, a PI who has a lot of “quirks,” one of which is coloring his hair pink. Came from a rich family and very smart but who was banned from Stanford for shooting a gay porno film and from his family for being gay.
Gannin West, a no-nonsense Marshall who was asked to help out Kai. When someone called him to tell him that Kai is in trouble, he went to help out the guy as fast as he can. Gannin never takes time for rest and relaxation, he sees this as a time to do that despite the fact that he will be helping out someone in trouble with the mob.
Working together to find out why there is a hit on Kai means they have to be close to each other most of the time. Will this proximity go beyond the case they are working on? Will they get more than they bargained for?
Action, the mob, assassins for hire, Homeland, Marshalls, and PI’s, those are guarantees that you’ll have an action-packed adventure from this story. Interesting characters and chemistry, and a good storyline.
This is the second book in the Yours To Protect series and although it can be read as a standalone,I would recommend reading The Artist’s Boxer first. Not only because it’s an incredible book, but also because it’s where Gannin and Kai are introduced.
A crazy mobster wants James Kaito dead and Marshal Gannin West comes to the rescue. They have to spend a lot of time together trying to keep Kai alive and what do you think could happen when you put a sassy, irreverent PI in close quarters with a stern, rules abiding law enforcer? The answer is: so much FUN !! I never stopped snickering while they snapped at each other,Kai doing his worst to rile up Gannin and vice versa, Gannin struggling to contain the irruent PI.
And while they try to elude danger,Kai and Gannin discover how perfect they are for each other. The fact that they’re complete opposites in many ways is actually why they balance one another, the reason why the funny, smart mouthed, colorful Kai is the ideal match for the serious, strict Gannin.
This book is the awesome combination of fast paced action, fun and romance. A plot full of twists and turns, lots of surprises, charming characters, sweetness and hotness in perfect dosage.
I was really looking forward to reading The Marshal’s PI. I just knew it would be great and it didn’t disappoint. I loved it!
