It is a great story that had me reading late into the night! With some twists and turns that kept you reading. Great story by a great author!
Spence Blackwood lives in Arkansas. He is asked to perform a mission for a U.S. Marshall. He becomes a Deputy U.S. Marshall to complete the mission. His father is not happy he is losing his oldest son’s help in their Lumber Mill. Spence feels compelled to do this for the U.S. Marshall’s office. His mission takes him to Kansas. He is to look for work on a ranch owned by Rory McKay. He is to discover if McKay is involved in this case and try to solve the issues it has created.
Glenna McKay is the lovely rancher’s daughter. She is immediately drawn to Spence, but her Father is trying to protect his ranch and is is encouraging her to allow Asa Livingston to court her in return for protecting his ranch. Spence suspects Rory McKay is somehow involved with Asa Livingston but not sure why or how.
Spence is trying hard to fight his attraction to Glenna and feels he may be fighting a losing battle. There are some interesting twists, a lot of suspense and action.
They have a lot to overcome if they are to reach their HEA. They turn to God and trust in his will to help them overcome their largest hurdle. Will they trust enough? This book is about trust and faith. Love and Happiness are securely intertwined with the couples love and faith. This is one of the reasons I love Barbara Goss’s books. The characters are beautifully written and the love and faith instilled in them is not overpowering but gives each character a depth that goes above and beyond the norm.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review..
Just wonderful! I am enjoying the audible versions of the historical westerns and of course with writer Barbara Goss at the helm, I knew it would be amazing!
Spense Blackwood helps run his father’s sawmill with his brothers but is asked to become a Deputy and help the US Marshall track down the person pushing out a bunch of ranchers in a small town in Kansas. It is not something Spense ever thought about doing but he agrees. His mission is to get work on the McKay ranch, the largest in the area because the owner is suspected because nothing has happened to his ranch. Then try to court his daughter to get close to them and find out what he can.
Wow, this is a journey with so many twist and turns and as Spence gets to know Glenna McKay, Rory’s daughter, he feels guilty about leading her own and almost refuses, but Glenna is really taken with him. The narrator J. Scott Bennett brought this story to life and his character voices were spot on. Mesmerized from beginning to end I can only say I cannot wait to listen to another audible by this author and narrator!
Good, clean listen/read. I love the personal convictions that were present in some of these characters. The characters were well developed and storyline was exciting and moved along at good pace. I’ve recently discovered this author and so far have really enjoyed her writing. The narrative on this book was also done well.
I received a free copy of this book, and this review reflects my personal, unbiased opinion of it.
The Marshal’s Mission
By: Barbara Goss
Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett
A mystery to solve and a romance blossoms with this latest release by Barbara Goss. This faith based story lets us get to know Spense, a man sent to go undercover and find out why people, are being forced off their land. By infiltrating the McKay ranch, he is hoping to find the answer. What he wasn’t expecting was his attraction to Glenna McKay. Glenna is promised to another, despite her wishes. But with Spense on the job and love blooming, we will have to see who she ends up with. Goss always promises a book for me that not only has a good message, but has some suspense and action. This one is full of it all, with unexpected twists and turns changing the pace of the story. I love how she weaves faith and love as the basis of her books and gives a message worth hearing.
To go along with this wonderful story, she has a wonderful narrator. J. Scott Bennett comes through again with the perfect performance. He is able to dial in to these characters and give us all the feels and emotions of the book. I love this match of Goss and Bennett.

Barb Goss and Scott Bennett! These two never fail to please and they have done it again!
Barbara’s delightfully sweet western romance and Scott’s brilliant voices make this audiobook a real pleasure from beginning to end.
The problems that the two main characters, Glenna and Spence have to overcome are many and I could see the modern youth of today easily giving up rather than solving them, but these two characters don’t and thank goodness for that.
I just loved Spence’s persistence and that he wasn’t ashamed that he could go to his mother to get her advice when he needed to. Yet he was strong in nature and personality and always gave the task at hand the necessary attention to complete it regardless of the obstacles.
Glenna is quite likable and she comes across as a caring person and I liked that about her.
Of course this story has a happily-ever-after and this was a very pleasing one too.
The audio voices are well fitted to each of the characters and this enriched the story even more.
I requested and listened to the audiobook and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
I loved how Spence walks out his faith! The day to day trials are hard enough without a beautiful lady distracting him as he solves the crimes!
A good-looking wanderer named Spence is whom Glenna McKay has eyes for.
On a top-secret assignment for the U.S. Marshals, Spence can’t get close with Glenna because she may be tangled in the case.
Glenna discovers things that may put her in harm’s way.
Spence has to juggle keeping Glenna and himself out of danger as well as his blossoming feelings for her.
Spence is a moral man of integrity, and Glenna is a God-fearing, lovely woman.
The Marshal’s Mission is laden with mystery, clandestine, romance, and the whole shebang will have you wanting the story to never end. Another winner from Barbara Goss.
It’s all there. Sweet, romantic, adventurous, mysterious, inspirational, great characters and a good story. Good, clean reading,
J. Scott Bennett is a good narrator.

The Marshal’s Mission was a good read by Barbara Goss. Glenna McKay finds herself falling for what seems to be a handsome drifter. She never would have thought he was actually a U.S. Marshal on a secret mission. He has to stay away from her as he believes she may be involved in the case he’s investigating. Glenna is in trouble because she found evidence that gets her in danger. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Barbara Goss.
