THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER “Brilliant….About as good as a thriller can be.”—The New York Times Book Review “[A] nail-biter perfect for Room fans.”—Cosmopolitan “Sensationally good psychological suspense.”—Lee Child Praised by Karin Slaughter and Megan Abbott, The Marsh King’s Daughter is the mesmerizing tale of a woman who must risk everything to hunt down the dangerous man who shaped her … mesmerizing tale of a woman who must risk everything to hunt down the dangerous man who shaped her past and threatens to steal her future: her father.
Helena Pelletier has a loving husband, two beautiful daughters, and a business that fills her days. But she also has a secret: she is the product of an abduction. Her mother was kidnapped as a teenager by her father and kept in a remote cabin in the marshlands of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Helena, born two years after the abduction, loved her home in nature, and despite her father’s sometimes brutal behavior, she loved him, too…until she learned precisely how savage he could be.
More than twenty years later, she has buried her past so soundly that even her husband doesn’t know the truth. But now her father has killed two guards, escaped from prison, and disappeared into the marsh. The police begin a manhunt, but Helena knows they don’t stand a chance. Knows that only one person has the skills to find the survivalist the world calls the Marsh King—because only one person was ever trained by him: his daughter.

I was mesmerized by the main character’s view of her early life in the marsh. It’s sometimes difficult to put aside your preconceived prejudice of her situation since we, as the readers, know what it is but she does not. The author does a wonderful job of trying to make us see it through the eyes of the child.
Great look into the turmoil of the main character!
An incredible story and interesting perspective. Left me haunted.
I really great read
I listened to the Audible version and read it. The voice actress should get an Oscar. So much to say about the lead character and her connection to the natural world, her upbringing by the father who kidnapped her teenage mother, and the complex, aware person she becomes. I plan to read it again. It’s riveting, unforgettable writing.
What a nice and easy read this book was. I just wanted to rush back to reading it , from where i left off. There are so many books where you just want the get the book over with . This was soo not one of them . For me this book was an eyeopener of the many niceties-es we take for granted , what being civilized really means. There are many parts of the story that have stayed with me , after i read the last page. The relationships and characters have been threshed out so well. and the setting, its just marvelous.
I am in love with the marsh , post reading where the crawdads sing and now the marsh kings daughter.
Different but I enjoyed it!
Haunting
Very enjoyable for a former Michigander
I absolutely loved this book. I love how the author took a Grimm fairy tale and spinned a wonderful believable nail biting book. I was enthralled and in love with all the characters!
I loved this book. The unbelievable abusive life of an abducted young woman by a deranged savage man and eventually their daughter. It was scary, sad, haunting yet despite all, the love of the daughter was evident as her father taught her to live in the wild and off the land and how that knowledge later helped her hunt down her father. I also found the detailed info re. the marshes and survival skills greatly educational. Some of the abuse was hard for me to read through, and this is not the type of book I usually read, but overall this was a fabulous story.
I was pretty disappointed with this book. Was not a real thriller.
If you are looking for a quick slightly unrealistic but easy to read saga this book will check the boxes
I really enjoyed this book.Great character analysis, very informative,This Lady does her homework !
i became immersed immediately from page one. Karen weaved past and present eloquently. Prepared for everything but Was not expecting anything. In the end, I just sat there with my mouth open like yeah that was a good book. Enjoyed my reading experience.
Interesting characters and an interesting study of how we we ste dhaped by our beginnings. Never boring
The story was so realistic it could have been true crime or at least based on a real criminal. Very exciting and creepy at the same time.
It was so believable that I googled the real story! I loved it!
Very interesting story and a great read. Scary because this type of event happens probably more than we realize.
This book was an intense great read! Hard to put down
