I loved this book !
The author is new to me and was very happy reading this work .
Definitely worth reading if you like time travel , strong alpha males and a female who finds herself with this man from the past .
Nicely done Mariah!
I seriously love time-travel books, and this one has it all! The romance and the suspense are both great! Definitely a recommended read.
This book is #3 in the Called by a Viking series. The story line was very interesting, the characters well developed with a lot of chemisty between them. Mira, from modern day Boston, travels back in time to the early Viking Days and meets Hakon “The Beast.” Both characters have secrets they are keeping from each other and trouble ensues. Great look at some of the customs and beliefs of the early Viking Days. I highly reccomend this Time Travel Romance.

In The Marriage of Time, Mariah Stone has woven a magnificent tale of destiny and freewill. Written beautifully with lots of unusual twists and turns, the plot moves along holding the reader enthralled right up to ending.
The main characters, Mia and Hakon share an incredible romance and sizzling chemistry. Two strong characters but broken people who learn to trust one another and find healing and love in the process. The characters are so beautifully created and the author’s descriptions so real that I imagined myself a part of the story.
Mariah has the ability to evoke so many emotions in the reader at once. This was a real page-turner that I could not have put down had I tried. I loved every minute of it and look forward to more.
Thank you Mariah Stone for the absolute pleasure of reading such a lovely story.

Vengeance and mistaken identity lead to the love of a lifetime. The author has woven a fantastic tale of orchestrated destiny that still includes free will. You get to answer whether you would choose love over your known world and century. We read these because we all long for a bond so unique and so healing we would forfeit almost anything. Its not a loss at all when you also negotiate for the future of your loved ones. Ms. Stone you fulfilled my fantasies on this 3rd look into a Viking victory.

I loved it! Once I started it, I did not put it down. I have always enjoyed a good time travel romance. This one definitely made that list. But, I’m always concerned with how they will make HEA work. Hakon and Mia got off to a rocky start. First Mis is trying to escape an abusive ex. Then she ends up 1100 years in the past, with an overbearing Viking. Pretending to be someone else and in the middle of a whooping cough epidemic. Hakon has lived only for revenge. This marriage will help him achieve just that. He lost the one person in his life who ever loved him. What decision will he make to have that again. Exciting tale full of adventure, love and a touch of magic.

It’s not often I finish reading a book and then want to start all over again because I found it soooo good! I absolutely loved this story and found it very different from the usual time travel romance. First of all, Mia is pregnant and when she arrives in Norway, in the year 874, she meets Hakon, the Jarl of his village and he mistakes her for his enemy’s daughter he has agreed to marry. Mia has to make quick decisions to do whatever it takes to keep her baby safe. Having been studying to be a pediatrician, Mia manages to save the Viking village from a “whooping cough” epidemic!!
My heart went out to Hakon….he is known as the Beast because of his birthmark around one eye and believes himself cursed so he does everything possible to keep people away from him. It doesn’t take long before Mia sees right through him and the two soon fall in love but her secrets may be too big to overcome.
When the real daughter of his enemy arrives and her secrets are all out, Mia manages to go back to the future and here’s another unusual part of the story….Hakon ends up following her and finds her in the future!! There’s a twist to the story near the end and my heart was in my mouth until all was well again!!

In Viking times after a battle that has gone poorly, jarl Hakon is given a choice: death or marriage to the victor’s daughter and becoming that man’s ally. Hakon chooses to live, though he develops a plan to kill the man with whom he has a very bad history beyond this battle. In present-day Boston, Mia is at the hospital, showing her ultrasound to a friend. She is expecting a child, but she is determined to escape her abusive boyfriend, Dan. He finds her and lets her know that he will not let her go now that he knows she is carrying his child. A kindly looking older woman had been watching, and she follows them as Dan tried to take Mia out of the building under threat of force. She offers Mia a way out of her situation. She is a Norn and has the ability to send Mia back to Viking time. Mia soon finds herself at a runestone altar in the woods, and it is clear the older lady was telling the truth. Very nearly attacked by a bear when she first gets there, Mia is rescued by a man who claims that she is his bride-to-be.
What will happen to Mia in Viking times? How will Hakon react to her, especially if he learns her secret? Will Mia be able to escape, or will she have to marry him? What of the real bride-to-be? What of Mia’s life back in 2019? Will she go back to the future?
There was much to like about this book. Both Mia and Hakon are people with troubled pasts, Mia because of her abusive boyfriend and difficult father and Hakon because he has lived under the shadow of a curse that has affected his psyche as well as cause issues with his people. Even though Hakon looks tough on the cover–and he is–he’s got a kindness and a vulnerability about him that makes him a worthy romantic hero. While they get off to a rough start, how could Mia not fall for him?
I enjoyed, too, the lovely little moments that happen in time travel books. I particularly loved how it was almost a running gag that at times he just did not understand her words: hospital, congenital, etc. I adored the scene where she “uncursed” him, swaying to Thriller in her mind as she wiggled her fingers above crushed-up Tylenol…and how Hakon thought that she must be both a witch and healer, as his headache improved and hip pain went away. LOL!
There were a few things I didn’t like about the book. I am not a fan of clichéed secondary characters, and unfortunately, mafia crime lord Dan is an unfortunately stereotypical stock character. Medical issues are touched on briefly here and there, and as I am a registered nurse, I could pick up on some inaccuracies occasionally. And in the tiniest quibble of all, as both a nurse and a knitter, I took issue with two parts of this sentence describing the Norn as she watches the scene unfold between Dan and Mia: “…she was knitting, the needles in her hands jumping up and down like the lines of vitals monitor.” First, as a knitter, I can say that the needles don’t jump up and down in your hands! In fact, often the needles stay very stationary, with only the smallest movements evident as the yarn is picked (if a Continental knitter) or the hands moving to throw the yarn around the needle (if a British-style knitter). Second, I don’t know what vitals monitors the author has seen, but none that I have worked with would reflect such movement (an EKG maybe, but not a vitals machine), even if what she stated about the knitting was true.
That being said, I did enjoy this book. Mia and Hakon seem very real, and the way that they interacted with each other was fascinating to follow as their relationship grew and changed. I like seeing how both of them could heal wounds for each other; I love that when it happens in stories. By the way, I so wanted to give Mia a firm talking to near the end. Goodness, girl, what were you thinking!
I loved the main characters, they will entertain you until the last page. Heartwarming romance filled with time travel, mystery, intrigue, surprising twist and of course, love. My free opinion. Thanks.

WOW… I am loving the Viking series by Mariah Stone. Mia and Hakon’s story is full of surprise twists and turns. Just when you think you know what will happen, boom something else comes up. Mia is an intelligent, kindhearted woman who was studying to be a pediatrician. She falls in love but does not know till after she moves in with him that he is with the mafia. Dan controls every aspect of Mia’s life until she decides to leave him. Later she finds she is pregnant and plans to disappear where Dan can never find her. Dan finds her and forces her to go with him under threat by a gun. Then the most magical thing happens to her. With the help of a Norse deity she finds herself whisked back in time. In order to survive she lies to her captive to protect herself and her unborn child. Hakon has his own woes. Everyone fears him because they think he is cursed. No one has loved him since his mother died when he was just a young boy. He is Jarl to his people and takes prodigious care of them always going out of his way for them. It does not matter that they fear him and loath him because of the curse. When Hakon sees Mia for the first time he is enamored with him. But he thinks she is the daughter of his enemy that he is to wed. He has revenge on his mind and nothing will keep him from it. When illness strikes the village, Mia goes on full doctor alert and slaves away to save each baby, child and adult. As Mia learns more about Hakon and he learns more of her, the closer they get. Mia always intended to tell Hakon the truth but it is too late. The consequences of her actions have now come to bite her on her honches. So much happens to both Mia and Hakon. Their emotional lives have been turned upside down. Mia has to decide to go forward to her own time or stay. Hakon has to decide if he really wants her to go or stay. Decisions are made. Mia is abducted by Dan, Hakon cannot live without her and is gifted to go forward in time to save her. Will she go with Hakon or stay? So many decisions. So many secrets. So many lies. What will happen to our out of time love struck couple? I really enjoyed reading this. I enjoyed the characters. Very realistic and unique. Loved it and recommend it.
A modern woman with a dilemma; where does she really belong?
4.5 stars
I loved this couple! Hakon was so noble and so bruised and down on himself because of his traumatic childhood and his disfiguring birthmark. It took a modern woman to see past his exterior and appreciate him. I liked the plot, the characters and the uncertainty of just how this couple from different ages would end up. This is a fun and romantic series, especially for lovers of time travel and the Viking Age.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book provided via Booksprout; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Mariah Stone along with Gabaldon are my go to time travel romance writers. Ms. Stone’s book can be read in one sitting, or very close to it! So, grab some wine, or a soak in the tub and enjoy all of your “times” with Mia and Hakon. Wonderful story, wonderful romance! Add a viking, love this genre… and you have one phenomenal, entertaining book. I have fallen in love with each of Ms. Stone’s books!
DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS!!!
WOAH BABY! Man, talk about one totally engaging, mesmerizing, enthralling wonder that captivates from start to finish. This clever storyline and thrilling plot rocks this bad boy from the git-go. When the going gets tough, hard choices have to be made, and made they were. The tension is thick, the chemistry is hot and the danger is skyrocketing. Mariah really brought out the heat in this tough as nails, on point realism that spins so intense, bursting with emotions bringing this gripping tale to life brilliantly. The characters are authentic, believable and so realistic with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so vividly descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another beautifully. Remarkable job Mariah, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
I absolutely loved this book! I had read another book from this series and couldn’t wait to continue it with this read. Although it is a series, each book is a standalone so you are not missing crucial plot twists. Hurry and grab this one and get ready to become immersed in this unique time travel story!
