A traitor with a deadly plan. Two agents sent to expose his identity before he strikes. But danger is closer than they think . . .
Lord Christian Wolverton―known as Wolf in a covert group operating during the war against Napoleon―has been called home from his military duties. For the moment, his family responsibilities require him to suspend his more clandestine activities. But information falls into his hands that a traitor will soon try to tip the scales back into French favor and Christian doesn’t have much time to stop it from happening.
Going to the one person who can help him, the powerful Duke of Huntingdon, Christian comes face to face with Lady Alice. She’s a beautiful member of the ton with a very big secret―she’s also a trained agent and already on the case. Forced to partner with her to lure the traitor out of hiding, Christian wants to quickly close the case himself, before Lady Alice is more closely involved. But Lady Alice has ideas of her own and she’s going to prove her theories correct―with or without him.
Danger is closer than they think, however, and it’s a race against time to expose the traitor’s identity before British lives are endangered. Both Christian and Alice have strong opinions on who he is, but which one will be proven right?

What a fun spy regency! No one would think that the only daughter of a duke is a spy, but that’s what Lady Alice Huntington is, and she’s a good one too–with great instincts, knife-fighting skills, and she can untie any knot when restrained. Christian (Lord Wolverton) is a baron, who’s recently been called home from the war when his brother dies in an accident and his father suffers a stroke. He’s a spy with the Falcon Group, trying to find out who killed Thomas Norwich.
I love Regency romances and I love mysteries, so this was an especially delightful read for me, although I didn’t guess who was behind the selling of a spy list to the French–I’d never have figured it out. Alice and Christian are both wonderful characters–smart, brave, kind and they don’t look down on those of lesser stations. I liked that Alice’s parents had genuine affection for each other which seems to have been uncommon among the peerage in that era. I liked the intrigue and how well Alice and Christian worked together, especially liked that Christian looked at Alice as an equal and enjoyed learning all her secret talents.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator’s voice. She was a new narrator to me.
Great read. Loved the plot of mystery/spy with good characters. A little romance thrown in but the spy plot was best. Straight forward romance without all the will she or will she not. Will definitely be reading more of Ms. Bellot’s books.
An exciting tale of ballrooms, romance and spies.
I couldn’t put it down. I also like short stories without adding a lot of extra stuff that adds no value to the storyline.
Ok read. You must suspend your unbelief to enjoy. Highly improbable situations.
