The Marine’s Secret Daughter carefully follows the secret child trope. Each of the main characters, Riley the Marine is honor-bound to return to Afghanistan and his fellow Marines rekindles his love with his best friend’s sister, Meg. I enjoyed this romance. The author wrote both characters with feeling and compassion, and the secret daughter is adorable.

My Review
The Marine’s Secret Daughter is a heartbreaking yet heartwarming story about Marine Sergeant Riley Cooper and single mom Meghan McBride. I really liked both Riley and Meghan but as with any good romance i found myself wanting to shake them both at times while screaming at them why ????? The Book moves at a good pace and all of the characters are well developed and likeable. Once I picked up this book i couldn’t put it down. (Read all of it in one setting ) . The author writes in such a way I felt like I was right there. I can’t wait for the next one in this series. This is one romance you will not want to miss. This is the first book I’ve read by the author, but will definitely not be the last. I will be reading her other stories now that I have found her. You can also read this review and all my other reviews on my fb page at Joyce Stewart Book Reviews , my fb Group Stewart Book Reviews Book Club , Good Reads at Joyce Stewart Reviews and instagram at Stewarts_bookreviews. The Marine’s Secret Daughter (Small-Town Sweethearts Book 1)
This is the first book I read by this author, and it will not be the last one. I really loved this one.
The story centers around Marine Sgt Riley Cooper and Meg McBride the girl that stole his heart. The night before he left to serve his country, they made love . He never contacted her again because he did not think he was good enough for such a special girl. That left Meg heartbroken and unbeknown to him, pregnant.
He returns to the town he had fond memories and where Meg lives since he has a month of leave due to an injury after an incident that affected him not only physically but also emotionally when he loses one of his men.
When he sees Meggie, he now sees a woman and the attraction is still there. But Meg has secrets and fears what would happen when he finds out .
It’s a story that will touch you deeply. It’s heartbreaking, heartwarming, insightful, thought provoking and at times bring tears to your eyes.
Not only is the story engaging and the characters are well developed, but I most appreciate the other aspects the author brings to our attention. The fact that how we are treated by our parents when we are children , will affect how we see ourselves and life when we are adults. That we need to be reminded of the sacrifices made not only by the brave men and women that serve our country , but also those left behind. For that, thank you , Ms Nichols.
Looking forward to more books by this talented author.
I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
“The Marine’s Secret Daughter” by Carrie Nichols is her debut with Harlequin Special Edition. It is the first book in her Small-Town Sweethearts series and features Marine Sergeant Riley Cooper and single mom Meghan McBride.
Growing up Meg had a crush on brother’s friend Riley and when Riley went to join the Marines she let him know how she felt, not knowing he felt the same. Their union created their daughter, Fiona.
Meg wrote letters to Riley letting him know about the baby, but the letters were returned unopened. Meg assumed Riley doesn’t care and takes responsibility on raising Fiona without him.
Five years later, Riley returns to Loon Lake to heal from his latest mission and discovers his ‘Meggie’ living next door. He’s focused on returning to his team but can’t resist reminiscing what he missed with Meg.
While Riley and Meg spend time together, Meg can’t get up the nerve to tell him about their daughter, but when Riley meets Fiona he does what any man should do – takes responsibility and says he will be there for his daughter and for Meg.
“The Marine’s Secret Daughter” is a promising debut about a strong heroine who does what she needs to do to care for her family and a hero who cares about those in his life and always wants to do the right thing.
Ms. Nichols is an author to look out for and this reader is curious what this author’s sophomore book will bring.
