New York Times-Bestselling Author: Even the king of the beasts can find himself unexpectedly tamed by the right woman… shifter to her Tennessee Pack’s turf for safe keeping. It doesn’t help that Mitch’s appraising gaze makes her feel like the most desirable creature on earth…
Mitch is an undercover cop about to testify against some dangerous ex-associates. Even more worrisome, he’s harboring hot, X-rated fantasies about one fast-talking little canine–and he has to deal with every male in Sissy Mae’s Pack sniffing around her in a way that makes his hackles rise. Mitch has his pride, and he intends to show Sissy Mae that when a lion sets out to make you his mate, the only thing to do is purr, roll over, and enjoy one hell of a ride…

3 stars – I liked it
Sissy Mae and Mitch Shaw have been friends since they met. When Mitch gets injured after her brother’s wedding, Sissy decides to take him to her hometown in Tennessee for safe keeping. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow.
Sissy Mae is a shitstarter and loves to make people angry. Because of her bullying of Jessica throughout their childhood she is not my favorite character, but I actually liked her in this book. She had a surprisingly sweet side with Mitch that I liked. She was still pretty deadly and loved starting shit but we see more than that in this book. Mitch was ok. I didn’t love how lazy he was. Also he complained a lot.
This is a much slower paced relationship than the previous two. These two are friends first and we get to see their progression into a relationship, which I like, but there were a few times that were slightly boring. Also there’s a whole mystery with a witch in this one that isn’t explained very well, especially since it concerns Sissy but we never know why.
Overall, I still liked this couple but wish the story had a little better pacing and development.
Love the characters and the series.
This series always has humor. I am amused by the lion shifter roaring when he can’t get what he wants or needs because yes, they are spoiled in an amusing way. He does dumb things sometimes and that’s OK because he has great hair because…lion and arrogance because…lion. This could have been cliche but it wasn’t because it was funny. I want a lion. I love the dogs, one of those would be fun too and everyone is a little nuts in a southern way.
I loved this book.
I love Shelly Laurenston and all of her books. She is my favorite author!
Love this book, looking forward to reading more books from this author.
This is nothing like Harrison Ford’s movie “Witness”. The broad outlines are the same – a witness to a murder needs to be protected before a trial, the witness gets removed away from the big city and culture shock ensues. In this case, the witness is an adult, the person doing the removing is a friend of the witness , the big city is the Big Apple and away is Tennessee. The culture shock is immense. And oh yeah, everyone involved (except the gangsters) are shifters of different species. Let your imagination run wild with respect to the city slicker stuck in rural Tennessee with country cousins who are not even of the same species. The author certainly did and I am having so much fun with that wild imagination.
Loved it and the whole series. 5 Stars
