Being a fan of historical fiction, especially of the Roman empire, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writer immerses you in the legionairies’ gruelling daily lives and brings the terror and intensity of hand to hand warfare to a visceral reality.
Enjoyed this book. Looking forward to book 2
Anyone who loves the history of ancient Rome will love this book. The author has done a great job of researching and using facts and vocabulary from that time in history. Compelling story about the Roman armies—victories and defeats. A little too much background detail. More development needed on action scenes. I enjoyed this book very much.
I did not finish this book.
The author assumes the reader is fluent in Latin.
Got tired of looking up definitions.
Story did not hold enough interest for me.
A good look at what life was like near the end of the Roman Republic. Enjoyed this historical novel very much. Seemed like it was well researched. Worth the time.
This book was a great story for anyone with a thirst for history and knowledge from past reads to orient the times and events . Loved the story line and look forward to next installment.
Boring, couldn’t get into it.
I enjoyed reading this book. Finished reading it and sometimes I don’t.
Looking for more….
Interesting view of Roman history.
While at times the writing style seems a little unpolished and simplistic, the story itself is good. I finished the book looking forward to reading the next in what appears to be a series.
Good yarn. Shame we didn’t know at the beginning that this is the first of a series
Disappointed at the abrupt ending. Need to wait for the next novel to complete sory
The only bad point is this is book 1 and book 2 isn’t out yet.
Very well-researched look at very interesting period of late republic Rome.
Slow build up and the action slow to occur.
I totally enjoyed this book. It was intriguing and entertaining. The story line kept my interest all through the book. The characters were well-developed and very believable. I strongly recommend this book and am looking forward the next book in the series.
Historically accurate. Good Roman era historical novel.
The book had a slow moving plot with characters that were okay. Too much time was spent on historical detail, which meant nothing to me.
learned a lot about early roman history and military operations. Brought me back to the time when I learned Latin in High School.
