Alice Palmer has a beautiful home in an upscale neighborhood, her own catering business and no money worries. Alice meets a handsome successful man who, within a very short time, has moved into her home and has persuaded her to marry him. Alice is very naive and much too trusting so she fails to see all the red flags that keep popping up which makes this a book you can’t put down. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this very exciting page-turner in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a really good psychological thriller.
Liked it
I would especially like to thank Bookouture Editions and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.
Reading this book makes you wonder how well you know the person you live with. Alice was dumped and she didn’t think she would meet “the One” at all. Her life changed when she met Dominic, handsome, kind and charming. He asked her to marry him a few months later and to live in his house in West London. Three years later, Alice’s business is going great and she loves Dominic. She is pregnant when one day the police ring her doorbell and Dominic is dead. She will have to identify the body. Except that her brother comes to see the coffin and certifies that it’s not her brother Dominic. Alice refuses to accept the reality but she will have to get used to it. The man to whom she said yes to marriage was not who he claimed to be, what else did he hide?
A book read in one go, so much so that I hooked on the story, so captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters. I love the author’s writing, I loved her book “The school friend”. Can’t wait to read the series “Detective Rachel Prince”.
Strong Characters, Great read!!!
Will drr Ed finitely read this author again
This was a great book, it captured my attention from the first page, I ended up staying up until 4AM to finish reading it. I had to know what happened. I can’t wait to read another book by the same author.
It keeps you interested and has some unexpected twists and turns
The day Alice discovers that she’s pregnant, she sends a text to her husband. He never responds. Hours later police appear on her doorstep. Her husband was involved in a car accident and died at the scene. Her husband, Dominic, is dead.
When she’s taken to the morgue to identify him, she’s not the only one waiting. Her husband’s brother, who she’s never met, is also their. She identifies her husband, but his brother insists the man laying there is not his brother.
So who is the dead man? Who did Alice marry? What secrets was he keeping?
This psychological thriller is told in two parts .. past and present … one part by Alice, the other by the man she married. Characters are deftly drawn and they all seem to have issues of one kind or another. There is page-turning action with twists and turns along the way.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Alice has her own successful business and a beautiful home in a nice upscale area. She is somewhat naïve and unlucky in love having been basically left at the alter by her former fiancé. Alice meets and marries Dominic Gill very quickly. At first the marriage is good, when Alice starts to notice some strange behaviors by Dominic she tells herself it is all in her head. When Dominic is killed in an accident Alice soon learns that she did not know her husband at all. The story alternates between now and then, with both Alice and Dominic telling their sides of the story. The story grabbed my attention from the start and kept it all the way through. The story contained many twists and surprises. A very enjoyable book.
First, I want to thank Alison James, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
The Man She Married by Alison James is a book that will question how well you know your spouse or partner. This book makes me proud to say I am single as I would have a hard time trusting man after this book! Saying this I can tell you this book is written unlike any other book I have read from Bookouture!
Right away I fell in love with the book cover it was simple and sweet with two overlapping wedding rings! It was set in a blue background with the lettering of the title above it. It represented the book very well. Kudos to the graphic artist.
Every book has a character you love and a character you hate. In this book I had one of each. I adored Alison but my heart broke for her so many times!! I wanted to give her a hug. On the same time I wanted to know why the heck she put up with Dominic like she did.
Yes, Dominic was not my fave person in this story. He had a very secretive personality like he was hiding something. He didn’t treat Alison like he should have especially in the bedroom. So many times I found myself screaming in my head what are you doing with him.
Alison hooked me right from the begging with the subject matter and with the amazing descriptions! I was just blown away by the last line of the of the prologue. I knew I needed to read more.
This book was broken down into parts. It was also broken down into Alice then and now. Then you are totally flipped the switch and introduced to Ben. He is a big part of the story that totally shocked me and threw me for the biggest loop. Oh, he has a back story to tell. I will be blunt I didn’t care for him or his storyline at all.
This book was filled with multiple lies, deceit, murder, stolen identities, rough sex, and broken hearts.
Alice Palmer, age 33, has been married to Dominic Gill for nearly 3 years. Alice owns a catering business and a large home from funds left her when her parents died. Now, Alice is ready to start a family but Dominic is not quite ready.
When Alice and Dominic met, he was somewhat vague about his family and so she has yet to meet them. Alice is still feeling lost after the death of her mother and would like to meet and hopefully bond with Dominic’s mother. But there are always reasons why that can’t seem to happen.
Tonight Alice is preparing a special celebratory dinner for her and Dominic as she has just discovered she is pregnant. But as she waits for him to come home, it gets later and later. Then police arrive to tell her that Dominic has been killed in an auto accident and she heads out to identify him. At the morgue, she approaches the coffin only to find that the man inside is her husband but his brother says he is not. Who is this man that Alice had married?
Alice’s grief leads her to hire an investigator to find out who this man is that she married. Although the reader knows this by now, investigating it further opens up more facts about Dominic than Alice could ever imagine.
This is a compelling, and twisty plot about a man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. It’s scary how some people think and those close to them have no idea. I’m sure readers will find this story one that can keep their attention and keep them turning those pages. Remember that wonderful Shakespeare quote that’s a favorite of mine: Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. It fits this book perfectly.

A psych thriller in three parts, this book had a unique structure. I appreciated that the reader gets one whole perspective and then the backstory and perspective of another character instead of the “flipping back and forth between chapters” that is more common. I thought this allowed the story to flow. It did, however, make for tough going at first because Alice seemed so gullible (which annoyed me). But Part Two clarifies things, while the third section follows the plot to a natural (albeit somewhat farfetched) conclusion. I did enjoy this book and would recommend it. You’re expecting! Imagine the sheer joy and excitement at being able to share this news with your husband! Only when you go to share this news, there’s no response. Instead, there’s a knock at the door with news of your husband’s death. As if this weren’t horrible news enough, now there’s a strong possibility that the man you married is not at all who you thought he was, who he pretended to be – with you.

Alice Palmer, the main character in Alison James’ latest psychological thriller, The Man She Married, is in for the shock of her life – again, and again. Along with the help of Private Investigator Jim Cardle, Alice begins to slowly untangle her husband’s web of lies and deceit.
//
I enjoyed the overall storyline, it was fun racing through the pages trying to figure out how it would all end. Luckily, everything wrapped up quite smoothly, with no plot lines left unaccounted for. I do think it could have wrapped up a bit sooner, but alas, it was an entertaining read. Alice’s character was the only part of the story that didn’t really vibe with me. While reading, I found myself aching to reach through the pages of my Kindle; I wanted to warn her, to admonish her, to tell her to listen to her best friend Jojo – something! However, I did find Jim Cardle to be quite the redeeming character, he really pulled the story through to the finish line. I liked how he started off all tough and unapproachable but warmed up as you got to know him. Reminds me of the feeling I get whenever a new character is introduced to an ongoing series, you’re not really sure how you feel about them at first but after while you find you actually appreciate their role and what they bring to the story.

I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a psychological thriller centered around a deceiving husband and an all too gullible wife. The Man She Married is one you can easily immerse yourself in with a satisfying ending that’ll leave you happy you took a chance on it! Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and the author Alison James for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of this title in exchange for an honest review. #mistyscornerreviews
This is another new author that I’ve never read but I’m extremely glad I did. This book was a fantastic thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat.
Even from the first chapter of this book I knew straight from the of that I was going to enjoy reading it. This book is extremely well written, it’s a spine tingling good thriller.
Alice thought that she had it all, she thought that her life together with her husband Dominic was all she’d ever dreamed about. They met, soon after that Dominic proposed, and sooner still they got married. However Dominic her husband is not the man she thought that he was.
All of a sudden Alices life comes crashing down when the police come knocking on her door and tell her that her husband Dominic is dead, or is he??
She finds out he isn’t the man she thought she knew or thought he was.
This book leaves you desperately wanting to find out what happens next and why Alices life has blew up like this. This book is told from Alice and Dominics POV and flits between now and then.
This book I feel holds your attention completely and keeps you guessing and wondering the whole time.
The characters are great, even though Dominics a jerk, the author brought them to life fantastically.
I couldn’t put this book down it’s packed full of twists, turn’s, shocks and gobsmackers.
This book should be made into a movie it was awesome.
This book and the author fully deserves all 5 stars if I could give more I would.
I will definitely look out for this author in the future.
Thank you netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read and early copy of this book.
Thank you.
This book is out now.
Going to your grave with no name or memorial is surely the ultimate human failure.
That is from this book. The one sentence that in my opinion sums up a lot of this story.
This is my first book by Alison James and it won’t be my last.
It’s a thriller and mystery in one. One that will pull you in and keep you turning the pages until the end. This book really blew me away. You will know right from the start who the bad person is in this story but you won’t know all the details of what he is. He has lots of secrets going on and it’s our job to unravel them. This book made me cringe so many times. From murder to disappearance. From so many lies to possible truths. From before to now. You will not want to put this book down until you find out everything. I truly enjoyed trying to figure out what was going to happen next. It sure kept me on edge in lots of places and some things I did not see coming. The ending was spectacular in my opinion.
The characters of this book are likable. Some more than others of course. You’ll meet a man who in my opinion has no conscience in many ways but he still surprised in that he had some kind of feelings for the main character. But he is still a horrible person. Exactly who is this man? You will see a few sides to him and not like almost any of them. Like I said there is one time that I kind of liked him. Maybe liked that he had a tiny bit of feelings toward one person. Just the tiniest of feelings though.
You’ll read Alice’s story, from now and then. She has a lot to tell you and you will want to know what she has to say. Then you will get Ben’s story. Ben is who Alice fell in love with and married. But is Ben who he claims to be? Only a short part of this book, in part 1 you will hear his story and know something about him. The rest, the first, second and third parts are all Alice’s story and boy does she have a story to tell.
A huge thank you to #NetGalley, #Bookouture, #alisonjames for the eARC of this book. This is my own personal review.
I give it 4.5 stars and a high recommendation.
This is a quick, compulsive read. A whirlwind romance hurtles into a whirlwind story with so many twists and turns that you just can’t stop reading! The lesson here is to listen to that little voice in your head – it could save you heartache and just possibly your life.
