I have not read the original although I plan to read it now. This is an awesome story that I simply could not put down. This is a very compelling read with plenty of drama.

A quick, enthralling retelling of Oscar Wilde. Amy Cecil took The Picture of Dorian Gray and made it easier for modern readers to follow without Wilde’s florid prose. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read Dorian Gray but can’t get through Wilde’s original story.

I was first drawn to this book by the cover art and I’m happy that I was as this is a nice twist to a classic. Be warned though, this is a page turner so try to start reading when you have time to read it straight through! The author has done a wonderful job with this and I enjoyed reading it.

I received this ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily giving my honest review. Since I have never read Mr. Wilde’s original version of the story, I had no preconceived notion of what this one would entail. But trust me, after reading this one, I will definitely find a copy of the original and read it for my own satisfaction. This book opens with a quote from THE MAN IN THE MIRROR by Oscar Wilde, “Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.” It intrigued me right from the first sentence I read. Amy Cecil had shown before in other works she had a talent for taking classic literature and giving it a modern twist. That’s precisely what she’s done here. It’s still a period piece of literature that has been tweaked with a modern flair to it. The story was beautiful in it’s telling, horrifying in thinking it could actually happen, and compelling me with every word and page to reach the conclusion. This is a classic in it’s own right. Congratulations.
Excellent read, this is a book that stands out as something special. Great story, well plotted and unmissable.
