Stalked by a psychotic woman by day and haunted by a supernatural force by night, Mateo Cardenas is convinced the two have nothing to do with the new home he just moved into. Until he sees something sinister in his backyard, something that soon enters his home. He reaches out to a psychic-medium named Eloise for help. But this isn’t an ordinary haunting. And Eloise has never encountered such a … encountered such a mystifying presence.
Mateo soon struggles to determine the truth from a lie and distinguish friend from foe. Because when you’re terrorized every second of every day, it’s difficult to know what’s real. And that’s a big problem when you’re the only one who can see this malicious spirit. Especially when it’ll destroy everyone until it gets what it wants!

The Malicious is definitely a Supernatural Thriller! The genre of supernatural thrillers was not on my radar until I read The Presence. That book had me on edge from beginning to end, and I was eager to read another. In The Malicious, Kirk Kilgrave took the thrills and supernatural up another level. Characters from The Presence continue their story in The Malicious. This story begins sometime after the events of The Presence.
Rosalind and Mateo are married now, and there are surprising changes in their lives. As Mateo focuses on fixing up their new home, strange things begin to happen. We find that Mateo has an ability that comes in handy as the story progresses. We also learn about Mateo’s past and his family. The storyline contains some unexpected twists that keep you turning the pages. The supernatural aspects are intriguing and described in a way that makes them seem possible. There is also an interesting spiritual component.
I can describe The Malicious as a supernatural psychological suspense thriller. The mental state of Helena, the antagonist in this story, is wholly questionable. She walks a line between crazy and shrewd that frequently blurs, and with unique talents of her own, she is quite the nemesis. Not knowing what Helena will do next and how her actions will impact Mateo and Rosalind, keeps you engaged and makes for a lot of drama, chills and injects the thriller component into the story.
After reading both The Presence and The Malicious, I am eager to read Kirk Kilgrave’s next book. I wonder if it will deal with the mystery of what is going on with Jocelyn? I hope to find out soon.

Creepy storyline with wonderful characters. This is the sixth book in the Sinister Spirits series but can be read as a standalone. This supernatural thriller kept me intrigued. This was the first book I’ve read by Kirk Kilgrave. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I have read every book in this series completely out of order and they still all made sense. This series is consistently interesting and entertaining. They have a lot of the same characters but you can read any of them in any order. This latest book has a lot of twists and turns. Everyone is not who they seem and people are connected in ways you will not expect. Mateo, the main character, is a former cop and begins to see and smell things that may or may not be real. A strange woman shows up and begins to make his life incredibly difficult. Nona, one of my favorite characters, makes an appearance and is actually Mateo’s grandmother. This is not for children, lots of adult stuff. Some violence but not an excessive amount.

I love this stand-alone book though it does make me want to go back and read all of the previous books. I love this book and this awesome story. I found it compelling with awesome characters.

Super creepy! This book takes stalking to a whole new level with astral projection! I don’t think I would have made the same decision as Mateo, he seems to be a nicer person. I really loved reading this and getting all paranoid and creeped out! I can’t wait for the next book!
