A high three star for me and makes me want to read more Dani Collins.
Not a typical HP as it’s pretty low on angst and mean hero which can be disappointing for some. Plus the women actually stand up for themselves.
Despite the HP Generic Title Namer, this has the development of a relationship and some semblance of a story rather than the usual petulant push-pull and quivering loans. Don’t get me wrong, the couple are all over each other.
A ONS with the Canadian heroine and the Spanish rich man results in a secret baby. The ONS happens between the day the H is jilted and the next day when the MOC for business is back on. Quick work by little Spanish swimmers.
MOC didn’t work out too well as, one, his wife
SPOILER
is found dead and nude in the arms of her chauffeur by her parents, and, two, was pregnant by the chauffeur. At least I hope it was the chauffeur’s baby as it sure wasn’t the hero’s. END spoiler)]
The H’s SIL alerts him to a secret plot moppet that popped up on social media that looks just like hers and his brothers moppet so off to Canada he goes.
The H insists on mawwiage, and the heroine goes along with it for her daughter. H is very shut down as no one in his family has feelings. Heroine does not want to be shut down as her parents dumped her on her grandparents and she wants to be loved for herself not just as someone’s daughter or someone’s mother. She actually communicates this to the hero. Repeat she COMMUNICATES. To the hero.
The hero is clueless but he tries. He consoles her and derides himself for being shut off. I am happy to report with any more details that it works out.
Issues for me:
Several mentions of her callous mother who has another family but no confrontation which probably would have pushed this to a four star. I think it would have rounded it out better and given closure.
And more of an irritant, but the parents of the nude, pregnant, cheating dead-wife have the gall to accuse the heroine of sluttiness and adultery despite the fact their daughter was a cheater who cheats. Hero yells at them, but I wanted more.
A tryst with a maid will change Rico Montero’s life forever, something that should not have happened has opened up a whole new world for this logical thinking hero with Poppy Harris, will she be able to show him that he can love and that together with their daughter they can have a beautiful future as a family.
Poppy has been travelling through Spain and is working as a maid trying to earn airfare back home to Canada, when she is drawn to her boss’s son Rico they click instantly and a very passionate afternoon leaves consequences. Back home in Canada caring for her daughter and grandmother Poppy choses to stay a single Mum until Rico arrives on her doorstep two years later and the spark is still there.
Rico does not normally feel a connection to his mother’s maids but when his life is so mixed up and Poppy is so easy to talk to making love to her is inevitable and he never forgets her, when two years later he discovers that Poppy has had a daughter, he is on his way to meet his daughter and make Poppy his wife.
I loved this story, it is sensual and a real page turner Poppy had always felt a burden to people and with Rico’s upbringing he was taught to be logical and show no emotion so discovering love was something very new to him and Poppy was the best heroine for this together they find love and happiness their journey to a HEA was a real joy to read. This is a story that I highly recommend, MS Collins never disappoints.
This is one of those that makes you want to shake the H and yell “took you long enough”.
Rico is trapped between duty and well… Poppy.
It seems that duty may have won out.
Poppy wants to do the right thing and in my opinion, little Lily is not only the right thing but perfect as well.
I enjoyed the overall story and I really enjoyed Poppy.
Her character is vibrant and she is not afraid to do what needs to be done or what she feels is the right thing! … unlike our H.
Not really impressed with Rico I think he should have stood up for what he believed and what he wanted, not just belly up-ed to his parents’ demands.
Hello, you are old enough to make your own choices.
Things eventually work themselves out but the loss of time and the heartache suffered while Rico was finding his spine was completely avoidable.
This does end with a HEA – it’s a Harlequin folks
The Maid’s Spanish Secret by Dani Collins is the story of Rico Montero and Poppy Harris.
Poppy is working as a maid to get enough money to return home. While working she meets the son, Rico. There is a immediate attraction between the two but Rico is promised in a marriage of convenience. When he thinks that he is free of his fiancee he ends up sleeping with Poppy. Poppy then learns that Rico is actually engaged still and leaves. Poppy soon learns that her time with Rico is leaving more than just memories with her. But Rico comes for her when he learns that she left him with more than just herself.
True Harlequin Romance.. enjoyed their story.
The Maid’s Spanish Secret is the first of this series I have read, but not the first book by this author. I loved reading and following Rico and Poppy’s story. I love how the author create characters with depth and various emotions. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Forbidden passion leads to consequences! She was the maid and he her boss’s son on the night she gave her innocence to the wayward playboy. Now she holds his future in her hands with the child she told him nothing about. With the latest in the Secret Heirs of Billionaires series, Dani Collins nabbed my attention right away and took me on an exhilarating ride filled with emotional baggage, passionate encounters and an underlying good heart in each of the characters. Really enjoyed their well-written story!
Rico Montero doesn’t waste any time confronting his former lover when he learns she has a baby that looks just like him … that she failed to tell him about! He has just about had it with women deceiving him, so he’s not planning to give her a lot of options in how all of this plays out … she has to marry him and bring his daughter to Spain!
Former maid Poppy Harris didn’t intend to have a fling with Rico, but she’s not sorry about it because it brought her precious baby into her life. She knows it wasn’t right to keep Rico in the dark, but she thought he was invested elsewhere. She doesn’t resist his request to marry, but she’s not so sure how this is going to play out.

Rich, handsome Spanish nobleman Rico gets sheltered housemaid Poppy pregnant after a one time fling. When Rico discovers he’s fathered a child he flies across the world and proposes to Poppy. Even ;the accidental pregnancy/forced marriage storyline has been done a million times I enjoyed this book. Overall a solid 4 stars for The Maid’s Spanish Secret.
