An inheritance brought her to Magnolia, but love just might keep her there… Avery Keller arrives in Magnolia, North Carolina, with one aim: collect her inheritance and quickly put the quirky town in her rearview mirror. But the father who didn’t acknowledge her when he was alive has left Avery a mess to sort through–along with two half sisters she’s never met and a gorgeous single dad living … dad living next door. Soon her plan to keep this colorful, close-knit community at a distance gets complicated….
Grayson Atwell has rescued plenty of people in his firefighting career. His work and his little girl, Violet, are his entire world and there’s no time for anything–or anyone–else. But the vulnerability beneath Avery’s prickly facade brings out a fiercely protective side of him. Despite her protests, Gray can see that Avery’s falling under Magnolia’s spell–just like he’s falling for her. Now the only question is: How can he convince her to give them both a chance at forever?

really enjoyed this book
Too many typos and skipped pages to get past the first chapter.
Fun easy read
Fun, doesn’t require thinking…
I don’t often pick a book or series by the cover of a book but I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I did with this series. The funny part was it wasn’t The Magnolia Sisters that caught my eye. It was The Merriest Magnolia that did it for me.
I was going to just read that one and skip the two novella’s and the first book in the series but decided that wouldn’t do. Instead, I read them really quick so I could read The Merriest Magnolia. I hoped that I’d like it because it would be a bummer and I’d be down one-holiday book.
Happily, for me, I loved them all.
But for now, I’m only reviewing The Magnolia Sisters. The idea of this series isn’t anything new but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. I think that had to do a lot with how it was written and the characters themselves.
I really enjoyed all three sisters. I thought what they were going through sucked for them. I found each of their backstories to be sad in its own way and I haven’t even read two of their stories yet. For me, that makes a good author. I’ve been given enough that I have an idea of what’s going to come but yet don’t know everything yet.
Avery is a had nut. She did something she wasn’t proud of and it kinda hiding out while learning about her new father. I have to admit that what she did wasn’t on her and she shouldn’t have been the one to pay the price but that’s how life is. I’m glad she had her sisters with her.
I enjoyed how they learned to be sisters. Only two grew up in the same town but didn’t’ really care for each other. Avery doesn’t even know at first that she’s slowly falling for the town and the people who live there. You’ll enjoy reading about how her life is changing for the better. She’s really a good person who cares about others and always felt like something was missing in her life.
I also really liked Grayson too. I loved his daughter and how sweet he is with her. He’s a great father. His ex-wife is horrible. Many times throughout the book I wanted to hit her. Some people shouldn’t be parents.
It seems like these two are perfect for each other and they are. I got mad at Grayson when he fell for his ex’s trap but glad he figured it out. This is a wonderful story, one that made me want more. I quickly read the novellas after it. I’m so glad I did. It’s a very good series and I want more.
Very good
Magnolia is a small town in NC. When the famous local artist dies, his daughter, Carrie, is shocked to find out that he also had two illegitimate daughters who were included in the will. Meredith had grown up in Magnolia and went to school with Carrie but had no idea that they had the same father. Avery travels from California for the reading of the will and is also shocked to find out that she has two half-sisters. Her plan was to find out what was left to her, sell it and go back home. When the will is read, it turns out that the father had left his estate deep in debt and as the three sisters work together to settle the estate, they begin to start liking each other.
This book is Avery’s story. She didn’t tell anyone but she’d left California after being fired from a job due to an affair with her boss. She pretty much isn’t interested in men at all any more until she meets her new neighbor, Grayson – a good looking firefighter with a small daughter. The more time they spend together, the more their feelings for each other start to grow. They both know that Avery is leaving soon but will there be changes in their plans so that they can get their happily ever ending?
I enjoyed this book — I liked the interplay between the sisters as they get to know each other and I liked the relationship between Avery and Grayson as well as the way Avery treated Grayson’s daughter Violet who is really a feisty 5 year old and one of the funny characters in the novel.
This is going to be a great series about small town romance.
Terrific story set in a small town and full of love, laughter, family, and friendship. It is the story of three half-sisters who knew nothing about each other until their father died, and they attended the will reading. The main focus of this book is on Avery, the oldest of the three girls.
Avery grew up in California, the daughter of a single mother. She always thought she was the result of a one-night stand and sometimes wondered about her father. Her mom was a successful surgeon who was not very affectionate and had high expectations for Avery. Avery had an excellent job in risk management, but she is only too happy to escape California for Magnolia, North Carolina, when the story opened. Her life imploded because the man she loved turned out to be married. The description of how she found out was painful, not just for how it happened, but also for how she was treated. I ached for the undeserved guilt she felt. As she neared Magnolia, all she wants is to get her inheritance, whatever it is, and get on with her life. She’s not in a good mood and takes it out on an unsuspecting stranger at a gas station as she enters the town.
Avery receives quite a shock at the reading when she finds out about her sisters. They aren’t any too pleased to see her either. Things become even more complicated when each woman’s inheritance is turned about from what is logical. Then there are their father’s debts to deal with. Avery sees her quick escape fading fast as it is obvious she will have to stay longer. She takes her sister Carrie up on her offer to use Carrie’s apartment while she’s there, and Carrie stays at their father’s house. She gets another shock the next morning when she finds out that her landlord is the hot stranger from yesterday’s confrontation.
Grayson is a single dad whose four-year-old daughter is the center of his universe. He has a career he loves as a firefighter. The last thing Grayson needs is a prickly neighbor getting under his skin. But he can’t deny his attraction to her – or the unexpected bond she forms with his daughter Violet.
I admit that I wasn’t sure I was going to like Avery. First impressions were that she was a bit of a snob, rude, and only out for herself. But she made me laugh with her first encounter with Violet. I loved the whole “I don’t like kids, but sure I’ll braid your hair for you.” Violet is an interesting little girl who appreciates Avery’s bluntness and returns it with the same. I loved watching Violet worm her way into Avery’s heart.
I also liked seeing the relationship develop between Grayson and Avery. It’s a little rough at first, but anyone good to Violet is a winner in his book. There are sparks of attraction between them that they consider pursuing temporarily. But as Avery gets caught up in life in Magnolia, leaving becomes less appealing. I liked seeing her and Grayson grow closer, from shared meals to town events to a growing feeling of family with Violet. There are some issues with Grayson’s ex-wife, and trouble comes when Stacy carries tales about Avery’s past. I wanted to shake Gray at that point for being such a bone-headed jerk. I thought he deserved every bit of misery he experienced. I ached for Avery and her renewed feeling of failure. I cheered at the support she received from Carrie and Meredith and loved how they backed her up as she faced her past. Avery’s return to Magnolia gave her the feeling of home that she was looking for. I loved the surprise that waited for her and laughed out loud at all of the “help” that Grayson received with it.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the three sisters, Avery, Carrie, and Meredith, became each other’s best friends. Things were a little rough at first with Avery’s intention of leaving. I liked the dynamics of the trio. Carrie and Meredith grew up together but never knew they were sisters until after their father’s death. They are very different personalities and spend a lot of time arguing with each other. Avery is a buffer between them and does well at defusing tensions. I loved seeing how both Carrie and Meredith worked to make Avery see the good side of Magnolia. Meredith was a bit sneaky in her methods, which involved getting Avery to “foster” an overweight dog. I loved seeing Avery fall under the dog’s spell.
I loved the town of Magnolia. It is the typical small town where everyone knows your business, which took Avery a while to get used to. It was interesting to learn about the strange relationship between the town and its famous citizen. The more I knew of the women’s father, the less I liked him. I liked how the various townspeople worked to convince Avery to stay. It wasn’t too long before the town began to grow on her. I loved it when she made her choice and what she decided to do about it. I’m looking forward to the next book and seeing how the progress goes.
“The Magnolia Sisters” by Michelle Major is book 1 of 3 in the ‘Magnolia Sisters’ series and I absolutely loved this story. Avery Keller arrives in Magnolia, NC after a scandalous affair in San Fransico. She is there to collect her inheritance from her biological Dad that she never knew. What she finds is not only Grayson Atwell, firefighter and single Dad to a precocious little girl named Violet, but also that she has two sisters. These two sisters grew up in Magnolia but didn’t know that they were sisters until their Dad passed away and they met at the reading of the will.
Seeing the sisters get to know each other and learn to rely on each other was wonderful. This book is a prelude to the second book in the series and I have a feeling that the third book ties up the loose ends of the first two. Highly recommend reading this.
I very much enjoyed this book and will definitely continue the series! The story is very original and in a quaint small town. Love the characters!
Great book that relates wonderfully to life.
Easy read. Liked the characters
loved the personality of the characters. A “feel good” story!
This is a charming story of three half-sisters who knew nothing about each other until the death of their father. Together they navigate the stipulations laid down in their inheritance, as they get to know each other. Avery is the main focus of this first book, and she’s the sister who is new to Magnolia, North Carolina. Along the way she also learns to open her heart to a new love, and finds home with her new sisters and new love in an

This is a new author for me. One I’ll be watching for… Cute characters, believable story. A good beach read.
The Magnolia Sisters
Avery Keller and Grayson Atwell are the couple in the book. But i would say that the book was mainly about Avery getting to know her sisters Meredith and Carrie that she had just found out she had when her father died. Avery is coming to Magnolia just because she is curious about what her father left her. She meets Grayson (Gray) when she is staying in Carrie’s apartment that she rents from Gray. Gray has a daughter Violet who takes a while to warm up to Avery because Avery is not very child friendly when they first meet. Avery and Gray have to work through some issues in order to have their happily ever after. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone looking for a great book to read.
Major has written a solid sister book in the vein of Susan Mallery and Brenda Novak. I can’t wait to see this series develop and we learn more about what makes these sisters stick.
Great book
Loved this book and so excited that it’s just the start to this new small town romance series! Heartwarming story of family, friendship, and love–I loved everything about it! Can’t wait for the next one!
