Alessio… plaything.
Ayla…
I thought Alessio was only one more man who wanted to use me, hurt me, and throw me away. I don’t know what it is to trust anymore. I can’t find my heart under the pain.
Alessio found it. He touched it, and brought it alive again.
But if he discovers just how dangerous I am to him…I’ll lose my life.

I don’t know why I didn’t review this book earlier.

This was was so unbelievably good!!
Lylah James couldn’t have written a more perfectly broken set of characters like Ayla and Alessio.
My poor heart broke for these two. I cried, I was happy, I cried again, once again happy, extremely angry, happy AGAIN, SHOOOOCKED, relieved, sad… I mean, Jesus Christ.
This woman literally took me through the wringer. I felt like one of Alessio’s men fighting with him to help reign in his anger.
Once I have time, I need to read the second part because I remember this ending in quite a HUUUUUUGE cliffhanger.
If I could give this book more than 5 Stars, I would.
It deserves it and more…
“He masterfully played my body and my mind. He held the strings, and I became the puppet.”
First of all, Alessio is MINE. I had a few qualms about the story, but none about him. He’s dark, broken, fierce, and warms up beautifully as he falls for Ayla. Now, I got into the story wholeheartedly, and it’s deliciously dark, and mind the warnings folks, because it’s not for the faint of heart…Mafia Romance and all. BUT…I think my real argument is with the characters…what kind of Mafia Boss allows someone to infiltrate his home and his heart that he knows NOTHING about????? Does he not have people for that??? I know that’s the cornerstone of this whole story, so I didn’t place blame with the Author because, hey, anything is possible, and my favorite thing in the world is to yell at characters while they do things that I wouldn’t. I mean….the Author snuck a bomb at the end about a character that I couldn’t have seen coming with a crystal ball, so that was sooooo sneaky and left me screaming for the next book.
“I was playing with fire. I would burn in the end, but sometimes when the fire is raging within, you can’t let go. And I couldn’t. I was desperately holding on, even when I knew the fire was going to burn us both in the end.”
Now on to Ayla…poor, broken, traumatized Ayla. Daughter of a Ruthless Mafia Boss, you would think she would get some steel in her spine and get angry, but sadly no. She was a little too soft for me, but in the end, it works for Alessio, so whatever works. Their budding romance is sweet at times, and as with all Alpha’s, goes hot/cold by the minute. He does quite a bit I wanted to smack him for, but he is who he is. I look forward to seeing how all of this plays out and thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
