The first three cozy mysteries in a series featuring a Royal Canadian Mountie and his resourceful wife from an international-bestselling author. The beloved sleuthing couple solves a trio of murder cases in the austere beauty of Canada’s New Brunswick. Originally published under the pseudonym Alisa Craig, these three tales are a witty look at murder in a small town–“the epitome of the ‘cozy’ … epitome of the ‘cozy’ mystery” (Mostly Murder).
A Pint of Murder: When Janet Wadman realizes her friend Agatha was murdered with a jar of tainted green beans, her discovery leads to another untimely death. Height-challenged Mountie Madoc Rhys proves more capable than he looks, and Janet is duly impressed.
Murder Goes Mumming: Madoc decides to ask Janet for her hand in marriage. But when the newly engaged couple finds their Christmas plans spoiled by murder, the investigating duo once again finds they have a gift for serving justice.
A Dismal Thing to Do: Janet witnesses a terrible accident on the back roads of Canada. But after dashing into a nearby barn to get help, someone thanks her by stealing her car and then trying to kill her. Or were they? Madoc arrives and together they work to stop a deadly crime wave in its tracks.

I love reading Charlotte MacLeod’s book they are all great. I truly enjoyed reading the Madoc and Jeanet books. I am glad to see them reissued. They are engrossing, funny and entertaining.
Almost class as historical novels. An adventure into a world and life style, I no longer see.
I like these books because of the characters. The mysteries were unique. I did not figure them out early. My only complaint is that they spend a lot of time setting up the mystery and the characters, but them wrap them up very quickly.
I I’ll read anything by this author. I think I have! The humor is an asset but the mysteries are also captivating. I’ve spent some nearly all nighters finishing the books.
Love the quirky characters!
It is hard to review this book because the third book did not completely download. I only got the first 4 chapters
ALWAYS LOVE THIS AUTHER AND ALL OF HER BOOKS ARE REALLY VERY ORIGONAL AND VERY UMM HOW TO SAY DIFFERENT! LOVE ‘EM ALL LOVE THIS AUTHOR YOU MUST TRY HER ! HER BOOKS ARE ALL GOOD COZY READS
Easy to read and entertaining. Just kept reading one after the other. Good, gentle, mysteries.
I was a fan of Charlotte MacLeod back when she was writing about the agricultural college in Boston, apparently the best-known school in that area, and all the marvelous agricultural students… obviously the only students in the Boston area. If this makes no sense, then look for that series — but read this series first to get an idea of what MacLeod’s writing is like. She occupied her own genre, apparently, all by herself. Both series are dense with details, multi-layered — and you will find yourself totally entranced by the characters. And they are truly characters, in all the layered meanings of that word.
I enjoyed all these books. She writes well and it is a pleasure to read her cozy mysteries. Very light reading with characters.
Charming series from Charlotte McLeod. Have read all of them, but re-read every so often. Now they can line tidily on my Kindle and my old copies can be enjoyed by someone else.
The Rhys mysteries are always fun to read. They are well written and engaging.
different setting
Charlotte MacLeod is a great writer and the Janet and Madoc series is one of her best. These are really great cozy mysteries.
Not Charlotte MacLeod’s best but still entertaining. Written many years ago, something a reader new to the series should keep in mind.
I bought three books in this series at a great price and loved them. The characters are fascinating, with morals and good taste. I ended up buying the next two books. If you like British cozy mysteries you will enjoy this author.
The ‘mystery’ is not the point here. The view into the world of small-town New Brunswick through its (presumably) exaggerated characters is vastly entertaining.
This series is wonderful–both fun and serious. Charlotte Macleod was a great writer, and I love her books.
A set of characters you increasingly come to care about as their relationships develop over the course of the five mysteries. Well-written, well plotted stories with entertaining glimpses of Welsh culture, the world of classical music, and, of course, the RCMP. I hope the author considers more adventures for Madoc and Janet Rhys.
