The Pride of Jared MacKade
Jared MacKade always fights for what’s right. As a kid he was competitive, and that spirit has continued in his career as an attorney. The former bad boy has always longed for a family of his own, and now that he’s found the one woman he wants to come home to, Jared is ready to shed his pride and take a chance on love.

For a long while he thought his future would also include Cassie Connor—the woman he’s known, and certainly loved, forever. Could this mean Antietam’s notorious bachelor has finally met the one?

the whole series is GREAT!!
I have this quartet in paper but got them in e when they were On sale. Nora has a way of making you enter into her totally believable world.
This is one of my favorite series that Nora Roberts has written. The brothers are wonderful characters and I love each of them getting their happily ever after. My favorite? I’ll never tell. Yes I will. Book 3.
I love reading about the MacKade brothers.
* I’m really not into romance books. These had enough ghosts and history to offset the sex scenes. I just skipped over those pages!
What can I say about Nora Roberts that hasn’t already been said? She writes these books from a mostly male perspective which I found refreshing. They reminded me of my own sons. I love her stories and especially liked this series of the four brothers.
Nora Roberts is always a great read
I love her books
Love them!
Love box sets for easy rereading.
Have read these a couple of times before and seeing these in my library decided on another read.
1 – THE RETURN OF RAFE MACKADE
Enjoyable good solid read that passed a couple of hours.
Rafe is a bit of a big head at times and not totally likeable.
Regan is a forceful heroine, with strong opinions.
They are both equally stubborn alpha characters, neither accepting their feelings as truthful.
I loved the old house being revamped and all the ghosts and stories.
I do like small town stories for the way everyone knows everyone else.
This book has a ten year jump in the timeline which is fine.
My only dislike about this ten-year gap was Cassie.
Rafe had beaten up her drunken, abusive husband Joe before he left town. Ten years later and I wasn’t impressed that Cassie had stayed with Joe, let alone had two children with him in the ten years that have passed.
I remember I wasn’t impressed with her and Devin in their story the last time I read this.
2 – THE PRIDE OF JARED MACKADE
Loved the clash of temperaments between Jared and Savannah.
Jared is all cool, controlled lawyer and Savannah is like a lost child, just starting to feel secure.
Her son Bryan was such a cracker. I loved the solid relationship these two have but it was heart-warming to see man and boy bond.
Jared struggles to understand that Savannah cannot be pigeon holed and that she is just what he needs in his life.
Savannah struggles with feeling less than what she is actually is, a self-made, clever woman.
This is due to getting pregnant at 16 and being kicked out by her father, meaning she has really struggled to raise her son.
I am loving the interweaving of the war story and what happened into these books.
3 – THE HEART OF DEVIN MACKADE
Not my favourite at all due to doormat Cassie and Devin, the long suffering, ever waiting, sheriff. Two weak main characters.
The children showed more fortitude and courage than their mother.
We know about Cassie’s abusive marriage right from the beginning of book one. Glad she finally finds some backbone at the end but only after her son tells her a few home truths.
I know firsthand the damage an abusive family life causes and have no respect for women who believe they are successfully hiding the violence and abuse. Whilst at the same time allowing their children to suffer for their weakness.
My big annoyance with this plot in this series is that small town lifestyles being what they are, everyone would have known what was going on and nobody took a stand.
The fact Devin has just waited twelve plus years doesn’t sit well with me. He never really tried to move on as he supposedly gave his heart to Cassie when they were kids.
Just didn’t care about these two at all.
4 – THE FALL OF SHANE MACKADE
A good wrapping up and closure on the background story about the battle of Antietam and those poor boy soldiers.
Loved Rebecca, what an amazing character.
What a terrible set of parents she had but we get no closure on them and her marrying Shane.
Shane was likeable but not always loveable.
What can you say, when it’s Nora Robert’s.This is another favorite author, she always delivers a great story and wonderful characters.
Nora Roberts – need I say more….
