ABRAHAM DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD…He’s a fixer and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident “grandfather” on the wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at three in the morning–whether he likes it or not.Abe’s current mission is easy: mend his roommates … his roommates broken heart by helping him find a girlfriend on the LoveU app–without getting caught in the lie…
SKYLAR GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.
Over her bad grades. And over dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys gone?
She longs for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.
On her worst day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date).
On her best, she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie.
On Thursday? She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.
Skylar Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.
Why?
BECAUSE ABE DAVIS IS A LIAR.

Can I just call dibs on Abe? Abe was a sweet sweet but sexy guy. He did everything for his friends and expected nothing in return. He wanted a serious relationship that meant something to him. He was a like a sexy unicorn, can’t find that in everyday life. Skylar was funny and I respected the crap out of her morals, she knew what she wanted and what she didn’t and never waivered. Hannah cracked me up she was the absolute best best friend and JB was a true douchebag but I’m kind of hoping he gets a story and redeems himself. I cannot wait for Hannah’s story. This book was amazing and Abe and Skylar deserve each other.
So I wasn’t a huge fan of this one. The only character I really liked was Hannah. Oh, and there’s a cameo of Zeke. Too bad we didn’t see Violet.
I can’t wait for Hannah’s book! It looks like Rex may be the love interest….? She’s hilarious and has zero filter and I love it.
Poor Poor Abe. All he does is try to help his friends, and then it backfires in his face. So now instead of being a helpful good friend, he’s lacking a backbone and is being manipulated, or so she says. What started out innocently enough, speaking to the opposite sex on behalf of his roommate, who is not as articulate as him, turns into a case of catfishing gone wrong. (Not that there is a ‘right’ way to catfish someone.) Instead of weeding out the bad apples, Abe finds himself falling for one of his buddies matches. Too bad for Abe, he’s a good guy who won’t break Bro-Code by perusing the girl, even if he isn’t attracted to the girl himself. There is humor. There is sexual content. There are a few cringeworthy moments. While this does have a happy ending, this book doesn’t go too far into the future to see where they are now (like many books provide in the epilogue.) I enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, as well as the side characters. I do have mixed feelings about her reaction when she finds out the truth. On one hand I understand her being upset about the lies, on the other, she was falling for him, the real him, just as she had when she thought he was someone else, so it seems she might have had a sense of relief on some level. Anywho, that’s just my thoughts on that. The book is a good light hearted read. It reads easily and quickly. Alternates POVs. Due to some of the content, this book is suitable for mature readers.
I have been on a Sarah Ney kick and I am not even sorry. This was the first in this series that I read, but I really loved it. I stayed away from it because of the name of the series, but now that I read more Sara, I feel like I can trust her as an author and I am so happy about that. I loved Abe and Skylar. Abe was such a “helper” and wanted to help his buddy find a date through the school’s dating website. JB was the d bag here, and he was a pretty big one. I was happy that we only had to get 50% in before the truth came out about who was talking to Skylar. I really liked seeing Abe grovel for what he did. He knew that Skylar was the one for him and I don’t blame him for what he did, but he should have come out with it way sooner. This was such a fun read and I can’t wait to read more.
Abe is just another nice guy mistaken for a douchebag. He just happens to fall for a girl that he tried to set his roommate up with after experiencing a terrible breakup. How much nicer could this guy get?! Totally misrepresented, but thank god Skylar gives him a second chance. This nice guy knows all the right things to say and do, and just this once… he puts himself first!
I binged this whole series in 4 days and now I’m crying that there aren’t any douchebags left. Sara, could you please give me more douchebags???!!!
The Lying Hours is a modern take on Cyrano de Bergerac. I was worried I’d spend the majority of the book just waiting for the main character to be caught in a lie, but it’s not nearly as bad as I feared.
The big douchebag in this book is Abe’s friend JB, who he impersonates. I couldn’t understand why Abe would enable such an unrepentant jerk. JB is not funny or remotely charming, and Abe lost major points with me for refusing to stand up to him. I liked that Skylar knows her worth and doesn’t put up with crap from either guy. Her chemistry with Abe is just ok for me because she’s honestly too good for him.
I’ve been a big fan of the How to Date a Douchebag series. Its hallmarks are laugh-out-loud humor and flawed characters that you grow to love. There is fun banter in this book— albeit a little too much messaging back and forth—but I simply didn’t warm to the characters the way I typically do.
I listened to the audiobook and you don’t get much better than the narrating duo of Jacob Morgan and Muffy Newtown. They are always so expressive and have perfect comedic timing, so the audiobook is an easy and enjoyable listen.
I absolutely love this series!! These douchebags you can’t help but to love and pull for them. I know when I pick up a book by Sara Ney I am going to love it. This book was just what I needed and gave me plenty of laughs.
Abe has a heart of gold, he isn’t your typical jock. He gets himself in a situation trying to help his roommate start dating again. He has the job of finding the right girl for JB. Everything is fine until he starts to fall for one of them.
I loved Skylar. She is blunt and to the point. It has been a while since she has put herself out there. One of her friends talks her into getting on the campus dating app. She did not want to have any part of the app until she starts talking to one guy she finds interesting. When she finally meets JB he isn’t who she thought he would be. He is the complete opposite. Things get very complicated when she meets his roommate Abe.
This was such a sweet funny story. I absolutely love Abe! He might just be my favorite douchebag.

The Lying Hours was a fun, steamy, and hilarious standalone romantic comedy in the How to Date a Douchebag series, and I loved the storyline and characters Sara Ney created!
The storyline was unique and even better than I anticipated. I’ve never read anything like the one Sara Ney crafted in The Lying Hours, and while I didn’t always love every aspect of the plot, it was very enjoyable from beginning to end, with a few surprising twists. Ney’s writing style and hilarious sense of humor never fail to disappoint or hook me in. She made me laugh out loud numerous times throughout and I loved every minute of it. I really enjoyed Abe and Skylar’s story, and while I loved the surprise in the epilogue, I would have loved something more with Abe and Skylar. That’s the main reason I didn’t give The Lying Hours five stars.
The characters were awesome. I loved Abe and Skylar so much, even though I didn’t always like what they did or didn’t do. Sometimes they frustrated and annoyed me, but for the most part they were very likable and lovable characters that were easy to connect with and root for. They had great personalities and smoking hot chemistry together, and I enjoyed how their relationship progressed throughout. I also loved most of the secondary characters, especially Skylar’s roommate. She was a riot and made me laugh out loud so many times, I lost count. Abe’s roommate was a douche and I didn’t like him at all, but luckily he didn’t ruin the book for me.
The Lying Hours was a fun, sexy, and entertaining addition to the How to Date a Douchebag series that I would highly recommend! Sara Ney did a phenomenal job with Abe and Skylar’s story, and I can’t wait to read more in the How to Date a Douchebag world and other romantic comedies from this author!
Probably my second favorite of the series. I adore this heroine and LOVE how strong and sassy she is. The best part: the friendship between the heroine and her friend. Their conversations are the best and make this book.
Can we even call Abe a Douchebag? He was as sweet as sugar. These two characters were perfect for each other.
You could feel their connection on their first conversation. I really hoped that Skylar and JB first date would bomb and thank goodness it did. When the truth finally comes out, we follow as these two try and start their relationship even after the lie. You’ll be rooting for these two.
A fun addition to the #douchebagseries.
This was so good!! LOVED it!
It was funny, it was sexy, and I loved every second of it.
Abe and Skylar had chemistry that made sparks fly. I adored these two.
And guess who makes an appearance?? Zeke Daniels!! (from book 2) He’s my favorite. And the scenes with him made me laugh, tingle, and miss him hard.
The audiobook was excellent!
The narrators were perfect.
Could have been more.
This one felt a bit rushed and lacking. There were some timeline errors or inconsistencies. The characters were a bit one dimensional and not as well developed as previous books. Still good. Still recommended if you’ve read the previous books in the series.
I have to say I completely devoured this book. Sara Ney not only has the ability to tell a fantastic stand-alone story, but she has an amazing ability to create a world I NEVER wanted to leave. Right from the very start I was hooked. I laughed out loud, cringed, and felt each and every emotion as I experienced this book
Abraham Davis goes out of his way to help his friends. Have a flat tire? He’ll drive out of his way to help you. Failing a class? He’ll tutor you. Suck at relationships? He’ll go so far as to pretend he’s you to help set you up with the potential woman of your dreams. That is – until he finds one girl who captures his interest. Then all bets are off.
Syler Gabriel is the first girl in forever that Abe has shown an interest in. She’s smart, funny, and keeps him on his toes. She also happens to be the girl she’s supposed to be setting his roommate up with, even though they have nothing in common. Will Abe risk it all to take a chance on Skyler?
I loved each and every minute of this book. Muffy Newton and Jacob Morgan only enhance this story with their brilliant performances as narrators. I am dying for more from this series. Well done Sara!
This was another wonderful read in this series. I definitely recommend this book, this author, and this series.
This was actually my least favourite “Douchebag”-book. I enjoyed it but it just wasn’t it for me.
The story began very promising and I really liked the characters and their interactions, but at some point it just wasn’t what I was expecting and I didn’t like the storyline and how everything fell into place. The book is ok, but I was expecting a little bit more… but it’s definitely a fun and enjoyable read.
Oh another Douche bag another sweet girl I love this series! This one was a little different than the last with the dating app
JB just wants to find a hookup or many… but he can’t seem to do anything for himself so Ab is his screener and starts the chats for Jack.
He didn’t think he would find a girl worthy of his time and one that he falls for but it’s bound to happen when he’s looking for girlfriend material.
Skylar wants to find love but she’s not really into using the app but desperate times call for desperate measures. She finds the sweetest funniest guy in Jb but in person he’s kinda well a Douche… what is going on??
Another great Douche and a little cameo from Zeke who was my favorite Douche!!
great banter between the characters. Bought the book from a recommendation of another author I follow and boy am I glad I did. Loved it
Abe, aka Honest Abe to those who know him, is all in when it comes to his friends. He’s a quiet guy, laid-back, and has a tendency to think things through beforehand. Which is why he’s on a dating app, under the guise of being his roommate, who recently broke up with his girlfriend.
Skylar is a little snarky and a lot anti-social. She’s done being lied to, used, etc. when it comes to men. But, at the insistence of her best friend, she agrees to sign up for a dating app. Surprisingly, it’s not as bad as she thought it would be when she “meets” JB and things seem to be going good. Well, at least they are until they actually meet and it seems like he’s a completely different person.
Abe is enjoying his chats with Skylar, as well as the fact he’s able to be himself. However, he forgot he’s supposed to be JB. When the first date between JB and Skylar is a bust, Abe is able to convince her to give him, well, JB as she thinks he is, a second chance. Deciding they might need interference, they choose to do a double date with Abe, as himself, and Skylar’s best friend, Hannah.
And that’s when Abe finally admits to himself that the woman he’s chosen for JB? He wants her for himself…
How will Skylar react when she learns the truth? Will be relieved because of what she felt for the “JB” she only talked to? Or hurt that she was once again lied to? Will Abe and Skylar take a chance and explore what’s been building between them? Is a HEA possible?
One-click now and follow along as two people meet under subterfuge, but the attraction between them is entirely real. I enjoyed the premise behind the story and the fact Abe’s reason for being less than truthful was coming from the heart. As for Skylar, I liked her character and how she and Abe played off one another. It was a nice balance while at the same time being a perfect match.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**

I had a hard time finishing this one, but I stuck it out as I liked the other books in this series. Abe is a nice guy, but all of his friends take advantage of him. Skyler first goes on a couple of dates with Abe’s roommate, but they don’t like each other at all. She really likes Abe but finds out he has been lying to her. I really didn’t like Hannah or JB and even Zeke annoyed me in this one. The writing style seemed choppy, and their relationship not at all romantic. It was just an okay read for me.
LOVED IT!! Sara Ney is a 1-click author for me and this one had me swooning from beginning to end.
