ABRAHAM DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD…He’s a fixer and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident “grandfather” on the wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at three in the morning–whether he likes it or not.Abe’s current mission is easy: mend his roommates … his roommates broken heart by helping him find a girlfriend on the LoveU app–without getting caught in the lie…
SKYLAR GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.
Over her bad grades. And over dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys gone?
She longs for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.
On her worst day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date).
On her best, she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie.
On Thursday? She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.
Skylar Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.
Why?
BECAUSE ABE DAVIS IS A LIAR.

What a sweet read! Sara Ney knows how to deliver hilarity and sexual tension like nobody else. Seriously, not a single one of her books has left me feeling anything but happy and satisfied by the end. If you happen to be looking for a new go-to romantic comedy author, look no further. Sara is always on point and The Lying hours was no exception, buckle up for all the calamity and ridiculous laughs.
The two leading characters here (I don’t know if I’m supposed to name them, so I won’t) are just brilliant together. I loved the instant chemistry, the fascinating way they met, the build-up, the tension and the sweet relief when they finally figure things out and get their happy ending. Sure, they have a few small bumps along the way but one of the best things about this story is that it isn’t packed full of extra drama or unnecessary heartache. I also loved how realistic everything was, the sexual experiences weren’t perfect… they were quirky and that made them super believable and therefore even more HOT to me!
One of my favorite things about this story was that we got to see old characters reappear (favorites who are even funnier now). It was like Sara decided to give us a few extra little Easter eggs full of happiness throughout the story! So good! I also adored the supporting characters, there was fantastic character development and I can’t wait to read their story! That epilogue alone had me squealing with delight. I WANT IT, I NEED IT!
Anyway, this is a definite one-click must for me. It’s a refreshing read packed full of quick wit and loads of playful banter, the characters are great and the story never lags or lulls. It’s a relatively fast read and offers a bit of sunshine and humor in a book market that’s currently saturated in mostly drama and heartache (that’s not a bad thing, I love those books soo… it’s just nice to take a break for some solid laughs every now and then). Well, don’t just sit there! Grab your copy and read it already!
Fun, quirky, sexy, hilarious!
This author though… she continually cracks me up and brings her books to a whole new level. This whole series has been one of my favorite Tom-coms and this book is proof of why. I love the hilarious situations that these characters get into, I love the banter, and the characters themselves are amazing.
Abe has always been the guy that all his friends can count on; never really asking for anything for himself. But Skyler makes him want to be selfish but the problem is that she was supposed go out with his best friend…
Skyler is tired of being single and let’s her friends talk her into joining an app; there she experiences a whirlwind of situations but doesn’t want to walk away.
This is a must read that will have you laughing throughout, you will get sucked right in and before you know it, you are going to be anxiously awaiting the next book. This book is a standalone so feel free to jump right in!
I love this series. I always enjoy the heck out of them. It was fun to read about Abe and Skylar but to me, Skylar’s bestie Hannah had the best parts. She has no filter and was cracking me up big time. I can’t wait to read her novella.
I legit feel like I won the lottery when this book showed up on my e-reader. I wanted to push pause on the rest of the world and my responsibilities and just sit and read. Alas, I couldn’t do that. I started it then had to stop for work. While at work all I could think about was when I could start reading it again. It’s that good.
The witty banter. The shenanigans. The misunderstandings. Characters that are so likable you just want to live in their world. This is what you can expect with all of Sara Ney’s books…..perfection. The Lying Hours is no different.
Sara has created another heartfelt comedic masterpiece. I for one never want this series to end. NEVER EVER.
To say that I had a blast reading this book would be a complete and vast understatement. It was just sweet and fun and sexy all around with the kind of humor that will have you busting out with laughter—the way you’d want a well-written rom com to be.
“You want me to pull out? I’ll last longer.”
“You pull out and you die.”
The comedic lines were just so spot on. But then again, I didn’t expect anything less with Sara Ney’s writing and her ability to make me giggle and snort-laugh like a lunatic one minute, and then go and swoon like a diehard hopeless romantic the next.
“What turns you on?”
“About you? Everything.”
Abe Davis might not have been THE perfect boyfriend—what with a few of his shortcomings—but he was the absolute epitome of a nice, kindhearted guy. He wasn’t only good looking and athletic with a body to die for, but he was also thoughtful, studious and oh so smart. Hell, the guy even loves to read! And Skylar Gabriel… she was such a funny, quirky and relatable heroine. I love that she had her own flaws and embraced being her regular self. It just made me picture myself in her place more times than I could count and envy her to death for winning over and having someone like Abe.
“It’s sweet that he filters himself with me, though he doesn’t have to. I don’t need him to change; I just need him to show me some respect.”
The Lying Hours might’ve been a surprising addition to the Douchebag series, but I couldn’t be more ecstatic that we got this story. Because every book in this series just continues to get better and better. Plus, I absolutely adore text exchanges in a novel, and this one just had the right amount of that component to amplify the experience of Abe and Skylar’s love story.
“I fucking love her. One swipe. One date. Sweet. Salty. Bratty. Kind—and all mine.”
With the least bit of angst, yet jam packed with a whole ton of laughs and swoon-worthy moments, The Lying Hours sure left me with nothing but a huge smile on my face and a heart filled to the brim with all the fluttery feels. There’s just no getting enough of this series. Give me a hundred more Douchebag books and I’ll happily devour them all.
“You’re going to call me tomorrow, right?”
“I won’t have to, because I’ll be looking at you when we wake up.”
If you’re a huge fan of the Douchebag series… of online dating stories and feel good romantic comedies with a sweet as hell hero and a quirky AF heroine in need of a nice guy, blended with Sara Ney’s signature witty humor… then you definitely NEED this book in your life!
I really love the How To Date A Douchebag Series and this one is another fun read. Each book has different characters that sometimes cross over due to it all being centered around the same university. This installment is about Abe and Skylar.
What I appreciate with these books is that each character has a flaw. Some can be redeemed and some are for us to have a better understanding and acceptance with. Abe was the gentle giant that was taken advantage of from his other team mates but especially his roommate. He had plenty of growth in this book and it made for interesting reading. I loved that he may not have known at the time that he stuffed up, but when he did, he went about to fully apologize for his actions. That is more important to me than being some alpha mucho male.
Skylar had a good head on her shoulders and knew what she liked in a partner. Lucky for Abe, it wasn’t JB. She may have been inexperienced in the bedroom, but she made up for it with wisdom of the heart, and was a quick learner. She was sweet and witty with a sincerity to admire. I also loved her roommate, and the insight with the epilogue. Bring on the novella.
The Lying Hours is a must have one click in Sara Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag series. Another coed bites the dust when she falls hard and fast for Abe, otherwise known as Grandpa of our beloved Iowa wrestling team. From the get go, Ney has you laughing as you fall in love with these two. Their fun, flirty romance via text was one of the best in this series. Although we do get flashes of our favorite douchebags, you can still read this one without having picked up any other in the series.
Ney has a way with characters and I have to say The Lying Hours features one in particular that I can’t wait to read more about. Whether it was her hangry personality or her loyal friendship, Hannah has struck my interest and I can’t wait for Ney’s next book!
The How to Date a Douchebag series continues to bring joy in my reading life. The romcom had me feeling giddy and more when it comes to Abraham “Abe” Davis’s story.
The quiet one, the do good-er the one to be there for someone in need is the one that tends to hold back when it comes to finding love. He is helping his roommate to find a girl by screening them on the LoveU app before he goes out with them. Little did he expect to caught an interest in someone by swiping and getting to know Skyler Gabriel. The problem is…the girl thinks he is his roommate.
Abe gives into to his friends easily and Skyler is one to speak her mind. When they come face to face their chemistry is sizzling; however, they are on dates with someone else.
Get ready to LOL along with the different feels you will experience with the back and forth between two people wanting to find someone and possibly discovering the one that could be the game changer in their lives. The question remains is whether the lies will work out in their favor for more…
I’m always excited to read a new Sara Ney book. While I haven’t read the whole How to Date a Douchebag series, I knew this was a series I couldn’t miss out on. It’s been recommended to me time and time again; so I started with The Learning Hours. So if this is your first book, you can jump right in. First and foremost, this series is FUNNY…I mean you’ll be actually laughing out loud, be prepared. Secondly, reading a book from the male POV is always a good time, their minds are just stupid sometimes. The way she writes college guys is spot on. I’m always rolling my eyes at them, but I can’t get enough.
Abe is the guy you can count on for anything. He’s got a heart of gold, and would give you the shirt of his back, no questions asked. So while he’s incredibly generous, a douchebag would easily take advantage of his generous heart. Enter JB – the douchebag who has Abe helping select dates for him on the locate Uni Love app. Nothing can go wrong in this scenario, right?!?
Skylar is the perfect match for Abe. She’s stubborn, outspoken, take no prisoners kinda girl. Skylar and her bestie, Hannah, are a great time. They really bring the comedy to the story aside from Abe’s cluelessness. Skylar and Abe compliment each other perfectly, from his shyness to her bluntness, they really make the story.
The Lying Hours was exactly what I needed for a day of reading. Fun, quirky, sexy and hilarious, I know I’ve always got a winner with Sara Ney. Definitely check out this series, if you haven’t already.
