From the bestselling author of The Good Neighbors…They were supposed to die. Five years ago, the residents of the Gerbera subdivision in the small town of Fallen Oaks were brutally murdered in their beds. The only survivors, now called The Fallen Oaks Five, were children–practically strangers at the time, forever connected by the weight of all they witnessed. Now grown, the anniversary of … grown, the anniversary of their families’ deaths approaches and the Fallen Oaks Five receive letters of warning: the killers are still out there and they aren’t finished with them. In a race against time and murderers who remain both faceless and nameless, the Five must return to their old homes in order to piece together the events of a night they’d all rather forget. Their old town is riddled with secrets, and every person they come into contact with is a suspect. With everything at stake, can the Five solve the mystery and finally learn the truth about the night that cost them everything? Or will they find themselves victims of a fate they should’ve succumbed to years ago?
“The delicious way that Modglin crafts a story will leave you captivated until the wee hours of the morning, turning pages, determined to figure out the mystery she so expertly weaves in a fictional world that feels too close to reality for comfort.”

Oh my where to begin. I enjoyed this book immensely. Kiersten gets you hooked in at the very beginning to the very end. The twists and on the edge makes you turn page by page as fast as you can, wondering what will happen next. Sometimes you may think you have figured it out, but then that ultimate twist turns things in another direction. I love when a book keeps your interest from beginning to end. Thank you Kiersten. Keep writing because you definitely keep your readers wanting more.
“I didn’t tell them the truth because no one could handle it. The truth was, the past hadn’t made me a victim like everyone thought; I think it made me a monster.”
Oh. My. God!!! I swear every time I read this author I think I can figure out the twists, but nope. Never. I’ve never once been ahead of her. I am floored each and every time by the twists and turns that run through her books like a winding path through a haunted forest, filled with drifting fog, that totally disorients you until you don’t know which way is up.
This one is no different. Five survivors of a terrifying night, one in which their entire neighborhood was wiped out by a group of masked men. Surviving was pure luck. Now, five years later, the note arrives. Each one receiving the ominous correspondence just before the anniversary of the massacre. But who is sending them? Why? Together they venture back to their hometown for answers, but everywhere they turn, only more questions develop. One thing is for sure. They may have all survived that night five years ago, but this time? They’re out of luck.
This was such a good read! This book is still on my mind even though I finished it over a week ago!! Definitely go grab this one!! You won’t see the ending coming!!
In a small subdivision called Fallen Oaks, all is not quiet and peaceful. Killers stalk through the neighborhood, killing everyone they see. Only five escape, five juveniles who flee for their lives and try not to look back. But on the fifth anniversary of the deaths of their parents, the Gerbera Five are back in their old neighborhood, seeking the truth and perhaps risking their lives in this quest. This tale is told in a way that is fast-paced, almost jarring in the way the words and sentences just run together to the next emotional and scary scene. The heroines, Cassie and Ellie, are not strong or particularly likable. They are just survivors, seeking the truth before the past finds and destroys them. I really enjoyed this book and believe that adults as well as older teens would love it. There is a great deal of violence in it, though, so it is not going to be for everyone. Also, there is quite a bit of vulgar language used, so parents of teens should beware. This novel is a nightmare in print and the author rivals Stephen King’s books with her ability to capture the reader and keep them enthralled throughout the story.

I really don’t even know where to start with this… Holy Cow! I swear Kiersten never lets me down. The twists, the not knowing who actually did it, so you’re trying to figure it out. And then, you’re like I knew it! Only to turn the page and be like, oh… I was wrong. This book was phenomenal!
What a read! There were so many unexpected moments in this book. Quite honestly even the end was surprising and had me second guessing the turnout!
I was hooked on this story from page one and was kept on the edge of my seat throughout! I couldn’t get over all that was going on and the characters were so well written that I was like, “no way” with how they responded or acted!
Don’t think you will come out of this story with a secure feeling of closure, you won’t! Honestly I think it is one of the reasons i loved it so much. It makes you go hmmm!
I could not put this book down! I took it with me everywhere so if I had even 5 minutes to read I did!! The storyline will not only pull you in, but you will also be dragged throughout the whole story until the unbelievable ending!!! I would give it more than five stars if I could. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book…gladly!!!
The delicious way that Modglin crafts a story will leave you captivated until the wee hours of the morning, turning pages, determined to figure out the mystery she so expertly weaves in a fictional world that feels too close to reality for comfort. The Lucky Ones proved itself to be another story of this author that has left me choosing extra coffee over sleep. The beginning sucks you in, and then you are Ms. Modglin’s prisoner until you read the end.
What a ride! Ellie has taken on the role of her younger sister’s constant protector since the night their loved ones were ripped from them, and now she’s being forced back into that fight or flight decision by the very people responsible for that fateful night. Tangled up with the other three survivors of that horrible night, they have to dive into the past to protect their future, but do they want to know what really happened?
The reader doesn’t breathe easy for a second as the threat of someone watching the Fallen Oaks Five is always looming, present in your mind. I swear, I physically turned around myself a few times because it felt so real.
If you’re looking for a heart-stopping read to start 2020 with, may I point you in the direction of The Lucky Ones? You can thank me later.
We lived…no one else did, just us five. But is what we’re doing really living or are we just surviving? And now someone doesn’t even want us doing that.
The Lucky Ones will drag you in and hold you captive till the end. Kiersten does an excellent job of keep us readers hooked. Keeping this short and sweet so I don’t give anything away. If you enjoy suspense and mystery then you’ll enjoy reading The Lucky Ones.
A phenomenal read that’ll pull you in. The suspense builds until the very end leaving you on the edge of your seat. You’ll think you know what’s coming but then it takes a different direction and the ending will shock you leaving you wanting more. An excellent story that’s a must read.
The minute “The Lucky Ones” hit my Kindle and I read the first paragraph, I knew I was in for another suspenseful, haunting and amazing book from Kiersten Modglin. Very few authors have the grasp for suspense writing and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
I was afraid for Ellie and Cassie and I wouldn’t have been as brave as they were when they decided to return to the scene of the crime; a place and time they had tried to forget. Secrets, lies and shocking revelations about the past led the survivors on a journey to uncover the truth. The sinister events of the past which resulted in the tragedy, were almost too much to bear and impossible to comprehend. I kept trying to figure out the motive for the murders, but Ms. Modglin kept me guessing, as she usually does with all of her books.
Any successful suspense novel needs to capture the reader’s attention by allowing them to be concerned about the characters and empathize with their situation. A sense of danger and escalating tension keeps the reader on the edge of her seat as the clues are uncovered and all the questions are answered. “The Lucky Ones” touches upon all of this and more, along with a shocking and surprising ending that you will never forget.
Let me start off by saying prepare yourself for a wild ride! As you read this incredible story, you will think you gave it all figured out, then this author throws something else at you to leave you guessing again. The story revolves around 5 survivors of a tragedy that happened in their past. Something brings them back together to figure out why they survived. Two of the main characters are Ellie and Cassie. They are sisters who will do anything for each other and will protect themselves at all costs. Who should they trust? Will they ever figure out what truly happened? Can the Fallen Five even trust each other? If you want to know what happens in this thrilling murder mystery, then do yourself a favor and read this heart-stopping story! You will be glued to your seat until you finish. Prepare yourself for the ending it has in store for you!
Watch out for Kiersten Modglin! This author is ridiculously talented and provides a smooth, seamless story with engaging characters and a plot that keeps you turning the pages, I should know! I devoured The Lucky Ones in one sitting. What more could you possibly want? Great scenery, awesome plot, twists and turns that make you say “what no way”, characters that feel real? No worries Kierstin Modglin has it all covered and then some with this book.
An exceptional read, The Lucky Ones is filled with life threatening secrets and surprising twists that will captivate readers throughout the entirety of the book.
Five children were the only ones to survive a killing spree and now five years later each have received a letter letting them know the killing is not done. Even though they did not stay together they come together now and decide to go back to town to find out who, what, and why. Um…why…and when all the twists and turns point to who why are they not running as fast as they can away? Glad I had this one in audio or I may not have finished it. With audio I kept it playing as I was busy. The narrator was great. Lots of twists and too many turns.
A fast paced suspense thriller that will have you reeling from the very first chapter. Kiersten Modglin writes a compelling mystery and keeps me guessing. And as always, she entertains me with interesting characters that create more mystery and suspense. I especially love listening to her books. The narrator Linda Jones was excellent for this and I highly recommend it.

“The truth was, the past hadn’t made me a victim like everyone thought; I think it made me a monster.”
So many twists, I can’t count them all! I was excited to grab another opportunity to listen to a Kiersten Modglin audiobook and I wasn’t sorry. KMod’s edge-of-your-seat thrillers never disappoint. After reading the first part of the synopsis, I couldn’t pass this one up:
“Five years ago, the residents of the Gerbera subdivision in the small town of Fallen Oaks were brutally murdered in their beds. The only survivors, now called The Fallen Oaks Five, were children—practically strangers at the time, forever connected by the weight of all they witnessed”
I love captivating and thrilling first chapters and this one is a doozy! It’s so suspenseful, it will take your breath away! You literally can’t stop reading.
They are The Fallen Oaks Five and they are survivors. Physically, anyway. Their entire subdivision was slaughtered, except for these resilient five children that managed to escape. Leaving their families behind to face the monsters that came in the night.
Five years later and someone thinks it’s their turn.
”Two little daisies, ready to pluck.
We’re coming for you, daisies, don’t count on

Wow- this is not your typical thriller. A young teen and her little sister survive the brutal massacre of their parents and all the parents in their neighborhood. Now years later, these children have grown and most are practically adults living in different places. One day the girl and her younger sister receive anonymous letter basically saying they’ve been luck so far, but the killers are coming after them now- with 2 daisies in the envelope, and that’s where the story begins.
