Once in a generation a novel comes along that taps a vein of universal human experience, resonating with readers of all ages. The Lovely Bones is such a book – a phenomenal #1 bestseller celebrated at once for its narrative artistry, its luminous clarity of emotion, and its astoniishing power to lay claim to the hearts of millions of readers around the world.“My name was Salmon, like the fish; … like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973.”
So begins the story of Susie Salmon, who is adjusting to her new home in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, even as she is watching life on eath continue without her – her friends trading rumors about her disappearance, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her grief-stricken family unraveling.
Out of unspeakable tragedy and loss, The Lovely Bones succeeds, miraculously, in building a tale filled with hope, humor, suspense, even joy.

Good book…. sad topic
The book was much better than the movie. It’s a mystery/thriller with a twist from the great beyond.
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite books!! Love love love!
This book was really disturbing and difficult to read because of the subject matter (rape and murder). It was very heavy but really well written.
Recommend but not top of my list. Perhaps subject never quite got to me.
I read this a few years ago so my memory of details has diminished but what I do remember is the perspective of the story from the victim’s point of view even after her death. This book made me happy and sad – not necessarily in that order. As a high school teacher, I was thinking of what could happen to my “kids”. Please read this!
So well written.
I loved and hated this book at the same time. It definitely brought a lot of emotions out.
A very sad novel narrated by the murder victim. Some interesting twists and turns and overall a haunting, tragic read. Much better than the movie.
Well worth the read.
Outstanding book. Stays with you long after you’ve read the last page.
I usually don’t like stories that include murder, but this one surprised me. It was a good read.
Written from a dead girls perspective.
Never read anything like this, before or since. Completely original.
Horrifying. Disgusting. Onerous. Toxic waste.
This book was so heart wrenching. You really felt for the characters and thought it was fiction it really made you feel as if it weren’t …
Unrealistic.
It helped me discover that I don’t like crime novels.
