Clare Davis hates everything about L.A. Well, almost everything… his first feature film, it would be nice to meet someone real—just not someone who rear-ends his BMW with her oversized truck. Dylan is instantly attracted to Clare and her Midwestern charm. And as he shows her the wonders of California, Clare can’t resist falling in love with the Golden State and its newest star.
From West Coast to East, friendship and love are equally complicated…
On the East Coast, Dylan’s childhood friend, Alex Popovich, loves his carefree life as a minor league ballplayer. He’s the man-whore of Brooklyn, playing the field in more ways than one. So when real feelings for his best friend erupt, Alex isn’t interested.
A gorgeous ballroom dancer-slash-office worker, Jenna Stecco wants her best friend, Alex, to take a leap from friends to more. Busy having one night stands, Alex is quick to let Jenna go, telling her it’s time to give up lost hopes and move on with life.
Complicated turns full on crazy with a tangled love square…
When Dylan returns to New York City, he meets up with Alex and is introduced to the stunning Jenna. Believing Clare is unavailable and Alex isn’t interested, Dylan and Jenna share a night of passion and embark on a long-distance relationship.
Everyone is thrown by this love square, as Dylan, Jenna, Alex, and Clare struggle with their feelings for each other. When Jenna reveals a secret that will change their lives, all hell breaks loose.
As the love square crumbles, the four friends must find a way to rebuild or risk losing love forever.

This story had everything for me, unique characters, fun concept, and stellar writing. Calla has a knack for getting the reader so drawn into the story that we feel like friends with the fictional characters and therefore feel the need to yell at them a little bit. But it’s never an eyeroll. It’s a « Stop messing around and be together, damn it! » I truly enjoyed this read.
First let me start of by saying I loved the characters in this book and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Dylan is just absolutely perfection! He’s sweet, loving, caring, kind, and also a movie star (bonus!) I loved his character and how much he cared about everybody else in the book.
Clare was sweet, slightly innocent, and adventurous. I enjoyed her and Dylan’s friendship but at the same time couldn’t truly understand it.
Alex was actually my favorite character. He was rough and tough, a baseball player (my personal fave), and yet sweet and caring as well (he only showed this side of him to his friends). I loved his and Jenna’s relationship and could completely relate to it (been there done that, but it definitely didn’t turn out the way it did for them), she’s the sweet and innocent friend sitting on the side lines while he had every other woman in his bed. She was in love with him and he was too obtuse to see it. I was truly glad things worked out for them.
Now, on to the reason for the 4 stars. Although I truly enjoyed the book, it’s unrealistic. I don’t know any guy nor girl that would be ok with that type of friendship/relationship/love square. And women are more catty/men more territorial. If a guy is interested in a girl he isn’t going to tell his friend to “go ahead” regardless of how much he is trying to hide his feelings, but that’s just my opinion.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for a sweet yet, frustrating book about love this is for you.
This is a take on a love story instead of a Triangle we have a Square of love This story follows two pairs of friends Claire and Dylan in Los Angeles and Alex and Jenna in New York. Dylan meets Claire when she runs her huge truck into his brand-new BMW you would think this would make them enemies but instead, they become best of friends, and he shows her the best of Los Angeles since she is new in town. As time goes on, they do start to have feelings for each other but there are obstacles in the way. Alex and Jenna have been best friends since they met at an old man’s birthday party. Alex keeps Jenna in the Friend Zone as he feels he is just not good enough for her even though he is in love with her. He goes to her for everything including intimacy he doesn’t want from any one of his flings. Lines become blurred between the four of them when Dylan meets Jenna and they start dating, Feeling’s jealousy and heart break affect them all. It takes some twists in the story to bring the altogether where they should be. This is a phenomenal story and so well written I could not put it down
I was given this book as an ARC for my Honest review.
The Love Square definitely puts a twist on the love triangle trope as it tells the dual story of best friends Dylan and Clare in Los Angeles, and then Dylan’s childhood pal Alex and Jenna in NYC. In both pairs, they each have feelings for one another, but there are some complications and nobody really acts on this feelings. But then Dylan meets Jenna while visiting Alex one weekend, and a steamy long-distance relationship takes off. But how true are they to each other when they both can’t stop thinking about someone else? Especially when an unforeseen complication makes things messier?
Like I said, this story puts a unique twist on the trope. There is some mild cheating (kissing) and while there are sexual scenes, they are not graphic. A lot of the heartache would be avoided if these four just were open about their feelings. So much miscommunication. And I really detested Jenna’s initial decision before her mind was swayed.
But that aside, I enjoyed this story. I knew who I was rooting for, and everyone in this quarter gets a HEA — even if it is an unconventional one, in a way!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
This is my first time reading Jessica Calla and I just have to say how completely in love I am with her writing / this amazing story . From the moment I started reading I could feel myself getting completely sucked into the lives and journey of Claire and Dylan . It was so easy to feel a connection with both characters as they are very likable and relatable. The emotion and the off the charts chemistry was also another plus for me , I genuinely loved every single minute of this book . If you are looking for a feel good story that will put a smile on your face but touch your heart at the same time . A story that is written so flawlessly , with just the right amount of intrigue , love , drama , steam , angst , second chances and so much more then you really do not want to miss this book . This is one of those books that you cannot help but devour in one sitting .
The Love Square is a peerless NA novel that revolves around four matchless characters who are:
Nebraskan: Clare Davis
Minor League Ballplayer: Alex Popovich
Up-and-coming movie star: Dylan Barnes
Ballroom dancer-slash-office worker: Jenna Stecco
A character driven novel that is told in 3rd person POV. The authors writing style fits perfectly and everything flowed through flawlessly at a perfect pace. This is not your typical romance novel as it branches between California and New York & four mc’s. The narrative is very deep & intense at times. All four main character’s have believable chemistry and compelling characteristics. The nonpareil plot twists mixed in with the innovative plot creates a well crafted high concept story.
This is a highly talented new adult romance author who creates a story that is refreshing and modernly entertaining.
