Lady Imogen Moore hasn’t had an easy time of it since she made her Come Out three Seasons ago. With her betrothed, a powerful duke breaking it off to wed her sister, she’s become the tons favorite piece of gossip. Never again wanting to experience the pain of a broken heart, she’s resolved to make a match with a polite, respectable gentleman. The last thing she wants is another reckless rogue.
… rogue.
Lord Alex Edgerton has a problem. His brother, tired of Alex’s carousing has charged him with chaperoning their remaining, unwed sister about ton events. Shopping? No, thank you. Attending the theatre? He’d rather be at Forbidden Pleasures with a scantily clad beauty upon his lap. The task of chaperone becomes even more of a bother when his sister drags along her dearest friend, Lady Imogen to social functions. The last thing he wants in his life is a young, innocent English miss.
Except, as Alex and Imogen are thrown together, passions flare and Alex comes to find he not only wants Imogen in his bed, but also in his heart. Yet now he must convince Imogen to risk all, on the heart of a rogue.

I have never read a book by Christi Caldwell that I didn’t love. Heart of a Duke is a highly entertaining book series.
Lady Imogen Moore, a beautiful redhead lady, at age 20 is the latest scandal. Her heart was crushed by William, Duke of Montrose, her betrothed, when he jilted her to marry her sister. Hiding from society’s scorn, Imogen resolved to never give her heart again. Her dear friend, Lady Chloe Edgerton, is determined to force her back into society with her support. Her brother, Marquess of Waverly threatened to cut off the allowance of his younger brother, Lord Alexander, if he does chaperone his sister. Alex is a rogue and rake, more comfortable in his clubs and in the arms of beautiful ladies who want him in private, but as a second son, desire a title. But Alex is more than the carefree scoundrel society thinks – he and his siblings hide the secret of an abused childhood by their cruel father. In her mission to help Imogen, Chloe insists on Imogen’s company on shopping trips, theatre and balls – with Alex as chaperone. From the beginning, Alex and Imogen are attracted by their wit and love of Shakespeare. But Imogen wants his heart and can see through the facade he presents to the world. Alex thinks he has nothing to offer Imogen and pushes her away towards a better, titled man. Can two damaged souls realize life’s greatest treasure, Love, can be theirs if only they trust and believe? Tender and enchanting story of wounds life can inflict and the way to overcome them. Beautiful romance!!
The Love of a Rogue is the third in the Heart of a Duke series but can also be read as a stand alone novella. This is Imogen and Alex’s story about finding love when all else seems lost. Imogen is recovering from a broken engagement in which her fiance dumps her days before her nuptials in order to marry her sister. Alex grew up with an abusive, vile father who basically beat the love out of him. Imogen’s best friend secretly plays matchmaker with her and Alex, in which the attraction is so strong that it continually overrides their resistance against love. This is a wonderfully written story with great dialogue and interaction as well as lovable characters. Christi Caldwell is an amazing author who writes stories that draw the reader in the story and stays in the heart.
The Love of a Rogue is book three in The Heart of a Duke Series by Christi Caldwell. Although this is in a series, it can be read as a stand alone story. However, I strongly recommend the reader indulges and begins at the beginning. These characters are woven throughout her books and come together in a beautiful tapestry. Threads running from one book to another spinning a gorgeous blanket of romance that you can wrap yourself up in on a cold night. The Love of a Rogue is a romance of great depth. Lord Alex Edgerton has portrayed himself as a callous selfish rogue. But when he meets Lady Imogen Moore his sister’s best friend, his eyes are opened to true beauty and he discovers that he wants to be more than his roguish facade.
Another wonderful romance by Caldwell.
I really have loved all the books so far in this series but this one brought tears & heartache to me as I read the life of the Marquis’ second son, Lord Alexander Edgerton. His father now dead, beat his children (2 sisters & 2 brothers) & Alex tried to protect his sisters throughout their childhood. His father, when he wasn’t beating Alex, verbally abused him that he was no good, would never amount to anything, would never be worthy of anyone’s love as he was just a “second son” with no title.
Lady Imogen Moore is attending her 3rd Season & just 3 days before her wedding to a Duke, he called off the betrothal to marry Imogen’s younger sister (how could her sister betray her, like that). Now she is fodder for the gossiping members of the Ton.
The pain Alex & Imogen suffered was to sad. Alex was living up to his father’s words & is a rogue, gambler & doesn’t believe in love. Obviously, Imogen’s wounds were from the fresh but her best friend, Chloe (Alex’s sister) knows Imogen needs to get back out & face society so they will go on to their next scandal to gossip about. Chloe plays matchmaker to get Alex & Imogen together as she knew they would be perfect for each other. I laughed, I loved their banter & his suggestive racy remarks & how they fell for each other & both fought it so much – especially Alex, as he remembered his father’s words & she deserved better than him.
Alex & Imogen just made me happy – they were such a fun, great couple that warmed your heart. I highly recommend this book & this series to all historical romance readers – you won’t be sorry you picked up the first book & I know you will want to read them all!
