A List no respectable lady wishes to be on . . . Somebody is reviving The Love List–that wickedly witty annual register of London’s light skirts–and they’ve added Miss Brynne Wilmott’s name to the list! She’s had a difficult enough time escaping her monster of a fiancé, facing the wrath of her father–she doesn’t need to be labeled a prostitute on top of it all. She’ll do anything to prevent … prevent the publication of the List.
The Request a certain Duke has no wish to hear . . .
The Duke of Aldmere doesn’t believe in meddling. Fate has proved that interfering in personal matters only leads to bigger trouble. He has no wish to involve himself in Brynne Wilmott’s affairs, despite her spirited beauty and damned tempting mouth. But she’s discovered that his brother is mixed up in this List business as well. Reluctantly, they agree to work together to prevent the disastrous publication.
Their quest leads them through some of London’s most dangerous haunts and it quickly becomes clear that Brynne’s former betrothed is behind the plot–and that his plans are more twisted and treasonous than anyone has suspected. Yet the danger and intrique are as nothing compared to the effect than Nathan and Brynne have on each other . . .

A thoroughly enjoyable story to savor and re-read. It has adventure, mystery, dubious unsavory characters royal and low bred. A very different theme makes this a great read. Well researched and very atmospheric. The story has everything to keep the reader glued to the pages.
The best bits are the small bits. I thought the book replacement would be from the one in the chapter headings. The book was well researched and actually sounded plausible. But it’s only halfway done the rest of the series will slowly reveal Hestia’s arch and Lord M’s dastardly deeds. The character are multi-dimensional with everyone having flaws and a backstory. But I thought the story was too complicated.
revealed strength of women
The storyline was exceptional and I really enjoyed this book, but I’m always disappointed when Regency romances step out of the historical social mores, even if she was considered ruined.
some sex
This book has so many things going for it. I loved reading this story about a fallen aristocrat’s daughter and the men in her life that she is either running from or to. She also has several female role models that help her along the way.
Good! I stayed up too late reading it.
Although I generally liked this book, I feel it left many unanswered questions at the end. I realize it is one book in a series, but it should be able to stand alone. This one does not really, so I was not satisfied with the book as a whole.
I loved the story within a story. Brynn is saved by the Duke of Aldmere when the fiancee chosen by her father shows some of his true sadistic colors. After breaking off the engagement and being ousted by the ton, Brynn holds up in a home run by an infamous courtesan, Hestia. As all of their lives intertwine while trying to stop this “list of loose women” from becoming public (as it will also humiliate the Prince Regent) we find out how Hestia’s background is linked to Brynn’s troubles.
This was my best read in a while. Engaging characters and clearly a very good mystery to solve. Maybe I was in the right mood, but I could feel the characters’ pain and sadness as well as her need for change. I couldn’t help but smile when he smiled. Look forward to more!
Very interesting story and interesting characters! Loved the fact that the story moved along and things happened. A good read!
Very different, interesting, and entertaining plot and characters!
I loved it
Kept my interest. Very enjoyable.
If you are a realist, this is not the bbl for you. Too many twists and turns over a list that didn’t mean a great deal to many people.
Very original. Love the story line.
I couldn’t get into this book, so didn’t finish it.
Not at all what I expected. Characters were expertly developed throughout the story. Suspenseful, yet very believable. Really enjoyable book.
I always enjoy her books.
This story will not appeal to everyone. It is not a light hearted Regency romance. There is the typical cold, high-handed duke. Our strong heroine walks away – from the betrothal arranged by her father to the despicable villain, from her uncaring father and from her life. The plot has twists and turns; the overlapping lives of the characters are slowly revealed, partly through journal entries at the start of every chapter. The backdrop is historical: the unhappy marriage of the Prince Regent to Caroline, and the powers that want Prinny deposed. Some criticize the story for a lack of action; however I viewed the game we were watching as a chess match, thoughtful and slow, and I enjoyed it.
