“Sweetbitter meets The Nightingale in this page-turner about a woman who returns to her family’s ancestral vineyard in Burgundy to study for her Master of Wine test, and uncovers a lost diary, a forgotten relative, and a secret her family has been keeping since World War II.”
I loved EVERYTHING about this book. The contrast between the current characters and the past characters made it a really interesting read. And the WINE. Oh my goodness, as soon as I finished the book, I wished I could go back and read it for the first time all over again! Love love love Ann Mah’s books!
Enjoyable historical fiction. I enjoyed hearing about Burgundy, France.
Very good story line.
good reading
Loved this family saga and lengths people went to during war to protect what is theirs!
Great historical setting for the story. Well told.
I thought at first it was going to be a romance in the vineyards of France. I was pleasantly surprised that instead it is an interesting exploration of how the French dealt with the German occupation but in a fictionalized way. It was at times upsetting to read but it made me curious about looking for historical accounts of life in war-torn France and the aftermath.
I liked that the plot was more original than many that I’ve read. I felt the characters were strong and interesting people.
Good read. Read in a couple of days.
Not that good.
I loved this book! Poignant and heartfelt. A family history with a solved mystery.
Great historical fiction exploring an unusual slant of the Second World War. An insight into the French resistance from the viewpoint of the wine vineyard owners and families. Romantic as well.
Slow to start but hang in there because it picks up and goes well.
I very much enjoyed this book – set in France with vineyards plus a mystery from the past to solve. Loved the past and present visited as plot unfolds.
I tried to like this book, it just moved too slowly and bored me.
Ok. But too much educating about wine.
I liked the book….the story, the characters but did not like the French phrases thrown in all the time.
The book kept me interested from beginning to end. Characters were very believable. I feel as if I would be able to recognize the characters and setting. It had so much true history about WWll. It is a book I would not hesitate ti recommend.
Entertaining book!
I loved this book.
