A miserable home life makes seventeen-year-old Tara Tamasy run away. Wearing just the clothes on her back, she flees her upper-crust, dysfunctional family. She is instantly drawn into the dangerous, unforgiving world of the streets, and unending hunger eventually forces Tara to turn to any means necessary to ensure her survival. Years later, she manages to escape and starts a new life, but she … desperately wants to bury the memories of her former life. Concealing her history from everyone decent, Tara continues to do all that is necessary for her to survive.
Tara moves to a small town and gets a job working in a diner. That’s where she meets Fish and Wildlife Officer Ryder Kincaid and his young son, Wyatt. Instantly, she is drawn to them and soon becomes convinced there is something more between them than just friendship. It sort of resembles what a family could be.
Ryder also suffered after his wife finally disappeared leaving behind their young son for Ryder to care for all alone. He swears off all relationships after that. The only drama he has in his life comes from raising his son. But when Tara manages to penetrate his carefully guarded defense wall, Ryder can only hope he has something real and lasting with her. It seems that way until her long-lost brother finds her. Now, the very same family that sent Tara fleeing into the streets attempts to draw her back into it, mercilessly exposing her past and her secrets to the one person she would do anything to keep them from.

This is the 7th book of the Sister series. I have enjoyed reading each of them. The Lost Sister was a page turner and difficult to put down. I loved the depth and empathy the author writes put into each book. This is Tara Aderly (Tamsay) and Ryder’s story.
Both of the characters are lost and finding their way in life. When Tara first sees Ryder the first thing she notices is that he is a gun toting cop. Just the thought appalls her from a past traumatizing experience. When he shows up to pick his son up from the diner. The first she notices is how lovin and caring he is to the young boy. Something she never had as a child or a teen with her own family.
Ryder is intrigued by Tara. She catches his attention, between being new to town and how she responds to his son and the other customers.
One afternoon as Tara is walking home in the pouring rain. Ryder picks her up to give her ride home. As they get to know each other they start not feel so lost and their relationship changes from just friends to much more. Ryder shares with Tara about his past marriage and how his ex deserted both their son and him. He was open and honest with her. He helps Tara open up some about her past, but allows her to keep her secrets. He is understanding and helps her bloom from the shy woman he first met, to the strong, determined woman who knows her wants and needs. The secrets he allows her to keep. Almost cause an upset to this beautiful relationship when someone from Tara’s past shows up in town. Someone she never thought she would ever see, again.
I found this book just as emotional as the other books I’ve read in this series. Before reading The Lost Sister, I recommend reading books 5 and 6 in the series. Reading them will help you understand where Tara’s past and why she left her family.
I think Leanne Davis is an amazing author. I’ve not found any books in her other series that I’ve not fallen in love with. I found out early on that the books are more enjoyable if you start with the 1st or 2nd book in a series. I hope the next reader enjoys this book as much as I did.
I don’t know the correct words to fully review this book and explain all the feelings it roused in me. Tara ‘Aderly’ Tamasy simply broke my heart. The challenges, horrors and pain she faced in her young life should have broken a lesser woman. Yet somehow, she managed to overcome all her past mistakes and a cold and distant upbringing to find purpose and peace. I enjoyed so much reading about this young woman and observe her growth and acceptance as the story progressed and more and more of her backstory was revealed.
Ryder is the male love interest in this story, but his backstory and pain is just as important here. He’s lost a wife, believing her to have abandoned hin with a young toddler years before. When the true of his wife’s disappearance is finally revealed, you can’t help but grieve with him and the rest of these amazing characters! The strength of his feelings and loyalty for both his now deceased wife and young Tara is amazing. That’s not to say that anything about their relationship is easy! The issues that Tara carries and must deal with are relevant and important. Her sexual dysfunction is something completely real and heartbreaking, both for her and the man who loves her. The way Ms. Davis writes about Tara’s pain and challenges she faces is a breath of fresh air and pulls the curtain away from something that polite society and romance novels rarely, if ever, deals with something so very intimate and shaming. Thank you for this amazing book!!
I seriously love the Sister Series! I cannot put them down! Excellent storytelling!
My experience with Leanne Davis books are always pleasing. Emotionally charged and frought with adventures, each book is so vividly detailed that it’s like you’re right there. The Lost Sister is #8 in the Sister series. We meet Tara Tamasy, a runaway who was living a horrible life on the streets. One day she wakes up and reality hits how dangerous and unforgiving life is when you’re on the streets and hungry and hooked on drugs. Finding herself help, she gets clean and starts over in a new place. Then she meets Ryder, a single dad and a game warden with a gun. Their relationship turns serious but secrets from her past arise that just might wreck her new life with Ryder. But Ryder also has his own secrets and emotional baggage. In the end, it will all boil down to if they both have the strength to meet every obstacle head on to build a life together. Or will their pasts be their downfall? Only time will tell!
I have not read all of the books in this series, I started with book 5, but to date this is my favorite one. This book is about Tara “Adderly” Tamasy, who is Tristan Tamasy’s (Book 6). If you have read the books, you know that the Tamasy’s are a broken, and not nurturing or loving family. Tara ran away from home at 17 to save her life. She had nothing and lived on the streets for 5 years. She awoke one morning after being robbed and so high she didn’t remember anything, and realized she needed to get off the streets. So she set about getting clean and making something of herself. She ends up in a small town, and is able to find a job in a diner, and find a room to rent. Her first day, she has to serve a Ryder, Fish & Wildlife officer, and his gun unnerves her. Later that day, she is talking with Wyatt, who is the nephew of the cafe owner, and is the son of Ryder. Ryder, her and Wyatt become friends, and begin hanging out. Ryder’s wife disappeared when Wyatt was 18 months old, and Ryder has never been interested in another woman, until Tara. She breaks down his barriers, and Ryder does the same with Tara. Tara has intimacy issues, and the way Ryder treats her and does everything he can to make her feel safe and loved is amazing. There are some other twists in the story. Did Ebony, Ryder’s wife run away or did something happen to her? Will Tara’s past life and lies about her name catch up with her? You need to read to find out, and let me tell you, you are in for one heck of a story, and at times you may need tissues. Will Tara and Ryder end up together? The strength of Tara and Ryder in the face of lots of adversity, is amazing. Leanne Davis always has amazing characters in her books, and you learn and feel so much, but for some reason, this book and these characters just resonated more with me. I’d love to learn more about Ryder, Tara and Wyatt, and hope they will appear in Chloe’s story, Book 9.
Tara lead one sad life. All she had went through in the streets really made me feel for her. I liked Ryder for her, but he pissed me off a lot too. I still want more answers with Ebony and hope we will get them. The series continues to hit hard on emotions
This is book 8 in the Sisters series. This takes us on Taras life. Growing up with a terrible mother and grandfather. Tara made had been set for life with the wealth but she just couldn’t handle her situation. She ups and leave at the age of 17 and is homeless for 5 years. Until on days she wakes and says no more then leaves. Tara wants a fresh start where no one knows her past. This story was very emotional. This is another great book in this series.
Tara was a runaway teen and lived on the streets for several years. She was homeless and living out of garbage cans so drugs were an escape. She did whatever she had to in order to survive. Ryder is Fish and Wildlife Officer and a stickler for following the law. Ryder’s ex wife abandoned them when Wyatt was just 18 months old so he has trust issues. When Tara finally realizes she has to change her life if she wants to live she ends up in Ryder’s small town working at a diner where he eats lunch every day. Can Tara let go of her secrets in order to trust Ryder or will they destroy any chance of a relationship?
This was my second book in the Sisters series and I have to say I loved it. I felt like the characters were so real and could connect with them despite having nothing in common. The Lost Sister is so sad but beautiful at the same time. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
Tara Tamasy left home at 17 with nothing to try and escape the life she was living. Even though she grew up privileged her life was not easy and she decided life on the streets was better than what she was going through. When she hits rock bottom she decides to give life another shot and gets cleaned up and becomes Tara Aderly and gets herself a job at Chloe’s Corner Cafe in a little town.
Ryder Kincaid is a single father to Wyatt and works for the Department of Fish & Wildlife. His ex-wife left he and his son and he has never wanted to enter into a relationship since then but there is something about Tara that makes him feel again.
Slowly Tara and Ryder begin to get closer but will Tara’s fear of intimacy cause Ryder to give up on her? When “ghosts” from both of their pasts reappear will it end any chance at a happy ever after?
This is such a good book and deals with a few big issues, as do all of the authors books.
My heart did break for Tara in that the only things she felt like she could do was to live on the streets to escape the hell that her mom put her through. She did what she could to survive and even though it wasn’t pretty she was able to eventually reclaim her will to live and got herself clean and ready to begin again. That being said I totally understood why she went by Aderly instead of Tamasy as she didn’t want to be found or not have a viable chance of beginning again.
Ryder Kincaid suffered his own loss when his wife left years ago after suffering from postpartum depression with only a note and an empty savings account. He became angry at her for what she did and to a certain degree has never fully healed from it as there was no real closure for him.
When Ryder and Tara first meet she is terrified of him and the gun that he carries for work but slowly Ryder begins to break down some of Tara’s walls. The two begin a friendship which turns into more but they have issues, specifically in the bedroom where Tara can’t relax and gets no enjoyment out of sex.
At a certain point my jaw just dropped for what was revealed and I really wondered how Ryder was going to cope after everything he had said about his ex, Ebony, in the past and how that would change things with Tara. Although I felt terrible for what Ryder was going through I also really felt bad for Tara as she was being ignored and shut out of everything. She wondered what was going to happen with her job and whether she would be able to stay in town.It broke my heart how she was treated by Ryder and then Chloe.
So I knew at some point Tara’s past was going to catch up with her and I kind of figured it would be through a certain character and I was right. Things just completely spiraled downward fast and again I felt terrible for Tara as it looked awful for her and the way Ryder reacted was expected but he was worse than I thought he was going to be. I loved Tara’s “family” at the diner and how they all had her back when she thought she had no one.
I liked the talk that Ryder had with Tara’s past and how he made Ryder see things a little differently and echoed Tara’s sentiment at how bad life was for her at home.
The end was great and I was very happy with how the book ended and I am looking forward to seeing Chloe get some happiness next!
Get your box of tissues out for this one. This is filled with all different emotions. Tough family life, running away , being homeless. Being lost until she was found. This book is filled with emotions of love, passion and the understanding of family value. This author never disappoints you.
Wow Tara’s story def had me in tears it was emotional and what her and Ryder had to go through it was overwhelming her story, lots of secrets, Ryder and Tara have lots of secrets will their secrets make it?
Tara and Ryder’s story!!!! I could not wait to read Tara’s book and I was so excited when I started that I couldn’t stop reading it! This will definitely on my re-read list!
It’s a story of someone who was lost and was able to find herself. Tara was able to grow from her past and become a strong woman.
Time to finally meet Tara and she has a great story to tell. The reader can’t help but root for her and Ryder as they develop their relationship.
I never thought Leanne Davis could write anything better than what she already writes, however this is book 8 in the series and it is out of this world amazing. Leanne’s books just keep getting better and better. Thus book was another emotional read for me and I cannot wait to see what Leanne has in store next for us. Fantastic book and highly recommended.
Leanne gets me everytime with a new topic. Great story between tara and ryder. I love when past characters come back to play. Loved it.
I really enjoyed this book. Tara Aderly has had such a hard life. Uncaring family except for the overbearing dance mom from hell. She runs away at 17 and spends 5 years homeless doing what she has to in order to eat and live. After being robbed she decides it’s time to get a life. After training she ends up in a small town cafe using a deceased friend’s Social Security Number and her assumed name. She meets a Wildlife and Fishery Agent, Ryder, and his son and Wyatt. Ryder was married to the cafe owner, Chloe’s twin sister Ebony. His ex disappeared years ago and he divorced her. As Tara and Ryder’s relationship deepens there is lots of drama and suspense. Tissues will be needed. I ugly cried more than once. It’s a really great addition to the “Sister Series “.
