INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Two brothers meet in the remote Australian outback when the third brother is found dead, in this stunning new standalone novel from Jane Harper Brothers Nathan and Bub Bright meet for the first time in months at the remote fence line separating their cattle ranches in the lonely outback. Their third brother, Cameron, lies dead at their feet. In an isolated … lies dead at their feet.
In an isolated belt of Australia, their homes a three-hour drive apart, the brothers were one another’s nearest neighbors. Cameron was the middle child, the one who ran the family homestead. But something made him head out alone under the unrelenting sun.
Nathan, Bub and Nathan’s son return to Cameron’s ranch and to those left behind by his passing: his wife, his daughters, and his mother, as well as their long-time employee and two recently hired seasonal workers.
While they grieve Cameron’s loss, suspicion starts to take hold, and Nathan is forced to examine secrets the family would rather leave in the past. Because if someone forced Cameron to his death, the isolation of the outback leaves few suspects.
A powerful and brutal story of suspense set against a formidable landscape, The Lost Man confirms Jane Harper, author of The Dry and Force of Nature, is one of the best new voices in writing today.

A rushed finish, as if the publishers were getting impatient…
I found the characters interesting. I also enjoyed learning more about the Australian outback. This author writes compelling stories.
another great book from Jane Harper. She’s quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Loved the connection to some of the characters in the dry
The Outback is definitely a ‘character’ in the book. It and all the human characters are well drawn. Great story telling!
The Lost Man will slowly reel you into the story of the three brothers, Nathan, Cameron and Bub.
When Cameron is found dead in the outback Nathan and Bub struggle to figure out how Cameron died under suspicious circumstances.
AS they head home to Cameron’s to be with his wife , daughter and Mother you get involved in the life story of them all.
Mystery surrounds the homestead. What really happened to Cameron.
A very descriptive book, well written, you feel you are there and you too are covered in the red dust and can feel the heat
Good read.
Jane Harper does it again. Terrific story of family secrets and betrayals. A brother and son who is well respected in the community is not what he seems to be. When he dies, the man’s history of abuse is slowly uncovered. What I like about Harper is her main characters and their pasts. Outstanding read.
There are two main characters in this novel. Nathan is the eldest of three brothers who is summoned to the family farm in the Australian Outback from his smaller, neighbouring farm when middle brother, Cameron, is found dead in the desert miles from his homestead. The other main character is the Outback itself. Through Jane Harper’s vivid descriptions we learn how utterly remote and dangerous it is.
Even better than “The Dry”, this book had me hooked from start to finish. Read it over the weekend and was annoyed whenever I had to put it down. It questions what we believe and why and our view of ourselves and others. Fantastic book.
I have loved Jane Harper’s 2 previous books, & this one just blew me away. Her ability to bring the Australian to vivid life, her characterisation of people living real lives in an unforgiving landscape, & her ability to weave a great story, all together that makes this my Best Book of 2018 (so far…).
