Oh my gosh. This book was so amazing! I was given an early copy to read and review and I’m so happy to have read it. Ada is a strong heroine that you can’t help but love and root for! And Lee…such a strong man who played such a good role in this story! It was full of pirates, sword fights, magic and a kingdom in danger.
The writing was clear and descriptive to the point I felt like I was watching a movie. It’s been a long while since I had read such a lovely book.
And the love story is one that will last well past the pages do this book. All in all I give this a 10/10. It will definitely sit on my book shelf right next to my favorite book.
This is just awesome! Fast paced and full of action, adventure, some magic and romance and once you start this you will have trouble putting it down! The storyline is exciting and the world building is incredible with characters that are strong and relatable with fantastic interactions. Fantasy, mystery, this is a legendary read and I am excited to read book two!
Princess Adalina has lived her life holding the legend of Nihryst close to her heart. When she discovers unrest brewing in her kingdom, and that it is at the hands of her father, Ada flees in search of the legendary warriors from the tale she’s always loved. Bartering her way onto a ship, Ada sets off on a journey to find the heroes she believes will help save her kingdom. She can’t help but clash with ship Captain Lee, who is both infuriating and attractive. But as sparks fly between Ada and Lee, and the crew get closer to their destination, secrets are revealed that could threaten the fragile peace that holds them all together.
Oh. My. Gosh. I am literally obsessed with this book. I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’ve always had a thing for swashbuckling men like Lee, or if I admire how fierce Ada is despite the fact that she’d never attempted something that adventurous before, I am completely in love with this novel, this characters, and how their story played out. This book is perfect for anyone who loves stories full of adventure, action, and romance. I certainly recommend this book, and I can’t wait to continue the series!!!
I received a copy of this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was simply awesome! Ada is such a strong protagonist who faces down her fears and doubts of others with a refreshing fierceness and vulnerability. Her brother Shane is the crowned prince who is fighting to not only learn about his people, but risks his life over and over to best serve them. Phillip is their best friend and I can’t say enough how much I especially love the relationship between Ada and Phillip! There is SO much love between them and it’s completely platonic and wonderful.
Lee is clearly the gorgeous pirate in this story and the complexities that surround him make the story so interesting. The trust he and Ada build is fascinating to watch and grow, as is their physical attraction.
Brienne is another favorite of mine – she is definitely a fantastic supporting character and I love the scenes with her.
Excellent adventure with magic, romance, strong friendships and fierce loyalties. Can’t wait to read book 2!
*I received an early copy from the author. This does not affect my review. This review is voluntary.*
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this, but as soon as I started, I knew I was in for a treat, and as predicted, I loved it! This doesn’t read as a debut, and I’m so excited to see more of Cait Marie’s work in the future! I really enjoyed the characters, and there was a nice balance between the two POVs (Ada’s and Shane, her brother’s) and I really liked how the story and plot unfolds!
This is such an amazing and captivating book. I could not stop reading and completed it under 24 hours.
Follow Adalina on an amazing journey with love, hate, joy and sadness. Will she find what she has been looking for her entire life?
The world building is done very well and all the characters are relatable. I highly recommend this book for teen to adult.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review
what a fabulous series beginning!!! …. totally enveloped by this new world … so excited for more!
I was given an ARC for an honest review of the book and here it is.
The Lost Legends (The Nihryst #1) by Cait Marie is a fantastic book about adventure and fantasy. If you are looking for something fun with an attention-gripping plot that takes you away to another world, then this is the book for you. I am not usually one to read fantasy books that involve pirates, but the way the author incorporated all the aspects was wonderful. This includes the different locations that they stopped at and wanting to find out if Princess Adalina found the Nihryst or not, and of course the romance that was involved. I just wanted to keep reading. Another thing that was very well done was Cait’s ability to switch between Princess Adaline’s adventures and Prince Shane’s adventures as they were not together through most of the book.
Another reason to keep reading this book is there ends up being a romance within the book that is not expected which makes the story even more intense. The author provides just enough imagining that your mind can wonder and imagine where the rest of the scene goes. This occurs throughout the entire book too. You can take a scene that is provided as the reader and then continue while finishing the scene up in your head. This also occurs with each character. Yes, there is a description, but we, as readers, can finish up how the characters look in our own minds. I love when a book can leave me to my own imagination at times, and this one did.
It starts off innocent with Princess Adalina being told her favorite story about the Nihryst warriors by her mother, and of course her brother is Prince Shane. Eventually, Shane would take over their father’s position as King of Detmarya, where they live, but there are events that happen throughout the book that may make that occur sooner rather than later. At one point, Shane meets a lot of people in town who end up helping him with the need to fight his father to keep the war at bay that is being planned. Adalina makes the adventure seem so easy to go on, and I think that is due to how she grew up with her adventure book about the Nihryst.
Personally, I give this book a 10/10. The adventure, romance, fantasy, and attention-grabbing aspects all make me want to re-read this book, which makes it wonderful. For a newer author, Cait Marie knows exactly what she is doing and needs to keep writing. I will be reading more and more of her books.
It was very intriguing, to say the least. I loved all the characters, especially the trio of Shane, Philip, and Adalina. There are several plots in motion, some get resolved in this installment, rest I am looking forward to in the next books! There was not a single dull moment, and oft, I felt I was living with the characters themselves. At one stage, it gave me strong ‘Throne of Glass’ vibes. I really hope I get to know more about the legendary group of Nihryst in the next books.
Once in a while I wonder what it would be like to be a pirate, encountering wild adventures at sea. You too sometimes? And you like some Robin Hood vibes now and then? Well then I’d like to introduce you to The Lost Legends, book one of The Nihryst.
Meet Ada, a princess who knows how to stand her ground and is just as happy to choose a sword as part of her outfit as a ball gown. You also get to know Shane, her brother and crown prince, and their best friend Philip who has been in the Royal Guard for several years. A nice trio who know each other through and through, with whom friendship always comes first, no matter what. While reading this book, you would like to be part of their group yourself.
As you can read in the synopsis, Ada sets out on an adventure with pirates in search of the immortal warriors, the Nihryst, who were cursed by her ancestors over a century ago. She wants to enlist their help to stop her father’s gruesome plans. On her journey, she will find unexpected friendships, learn to overcome her fears and learn the ins and outs of shipboard life. Meanwhile, Shane discovers that a terrible disease has reappeared and joins the rebels in their search for a cure. Both royals give the reader the feeling that you want to get to know them better, that they are more than just a spoiled and privileged prince and princess, and are already developing themselves a little further throughout book one. I hope there will be more room for this in the next books.
Ada is a bit naive, I often saw the plot twists coming from miles away while she was always caught off guard by them. But this does not make her any less fun as a main character, you keep believing in her and rooting for her to find the Nihryst. I felt more of a bond with Philip, his powers of observation and love for his family are traits I also find in myself. You also quickly become attached to the other characters: the dutiful Shane, joyful Michel, reserved Ren, scheming Brienne and of course the brooding captain Lee cannot be forgotten.
Cait Marie has a pleasant and fluent writing style that draws you into the story. You quickly read several chapters in a row and lose track of time as you do so. Suspense and description alternate well so the story does not get boring. I would have liked to see the characters grow a bit more, but there are 2 more books to come, so I am curious, anything is still possible.
If you are now wondering what adventures Ada and the rest of the crew will encounter at sea, what the deal is with the illness and whether they will succeed in stopping the king, you will have to read this book for yourself. It is definitely a must read if you are looking for a book that is an easy read, filled with adventure, friendship, love, the fate of a kingdom at stake, a memorable curse and a brooding captain . The little Robin Hood elements in the story are also nicely integrated and a pleasant added value.
Thank you for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review if I wanted to write one (not obligatory). Nevertheless this hasn’t influenced my review of this book, my opinion is and remains 100% my own.
This book is one great adventure. To say I was enthralled from page one is an understatement.
Princess Adalina has one thing strongly connected to the memory of her deceased mother – the legend of the Nihryst, the immortals living on an island no one knows. But many believe it is just that, a legend, a fairytale, far from any reality. She barely agrees to forget the fairytale and focus on real life when she overhears a mad plan to go into war, and her conviction the Nihryst are real and the only chance to save the kingdom flares anew. Desperate to protect her people and her family, Ada flees the castle and goes on an adventure that keeps every reader on the edge.
I absolutely LOVED the book. For me this was a blind shot, but I won’t ever regret it and need to read the rest of the series too. Ada is a sweet girl, stubborn, innocent, yet fierce, and with protective heart. Lee with his hot and cold attitude and certain pirate-y charm is a great counterbalance to her and complements Ada in creation of a perfect duo of main characters. Their interactions are entertaining, move the story and their complicated relationship forward with each step, and affect a bit also the situation around them. I also very much liked the side characters (Philip, Gwyn, or Shane), the amazing world building full of legends and pirates and treasure hunts, and a very recent theme of a disease spread without a cure. It was truly an amazing read.
This was a fairly interesting story, with a fascinating world build. Ada is searching for help to stop her country from going to war with those around her. But her brother believes she is searching for a fairy tale. Will she find them, will she save them? It is a really good read and I thorough enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next book.
