Cute cozy involving lost pets and a pet investigator. This much would have already caused me to pick up the book…or download it for that matter. It had all of what I call the “elements” of a cozy, mystery, romance, and a little humor. It was a quick read and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
This was a lot more serious than I was expecting but I loved it. It was well written and exciting.
This is a great read. It is not a long story but it has great bones. It is funny, entertaining and unpredictable. The Great Dane manages to end up with a cat name when Alex needs to call him by some name. Everyone keeps telling her it is a cat name but she says it suits him. The villain is pretty much stuck on himself and does stupid things. Highly recommend this book as an uplifting and easy fill in book when you have just finished a very detailed and involved book.
The Lost Great Dane is the debut novella in A Lost and Found Pets series and is an excellent start to B. L. Blair’s new series. I love Ms. Blair’s writing style and she has once again succeeded in writing a wonderfully crafted whodunit that kept my interest throughout the entire story. This is a well-plotted mystery with a cast of well-developed, realistic, and likeable characters. The story has enough twists and turns to keep the reader involved. I highly recommend this fast-paced book for all readers who enjoy a good mystery. I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.
Alexandra ‘Alex’ Prescott used to be a private investigator but she grew tired of working divorce and insurance fraud cases, so she decided to combine her PI skills and love of animals and opened Lost and Found Pets. Alex’s services include the use of her German Shepard, Hero, who is a trained search and rescue dog. While searching for Mr. Fluffy, a lost cat, Alex and Hero happened upon a thirsty, hungry, and injured Great Dane. Alex asks Craig Burns, a local vet who offers his services to Alex pro bono, to examine the Great Dane’s injuries and determine if he has been microchipped. Warren Caldwell contacts Lost and Found Pets to find his lost dog and Alex goes to his home to interview him and obtain information about his dog. While Alex is lacking in social skills, she has a talent of reading people and receives bad vibes from Mr. Caldwell and isn’t comfortable with his responses regarding his dog who she learns is a Great Dane. She reluctantly agrees to search for his dog but quickly finds herself in danger.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love that Alex was a PI searching for pets – not people. While searching for a lost cat, Alex found a great dane. He didn’t have any tags and was in pretty rough shape. She couldn’t just leave him so she took him home. That was just the beginning of a mystery that Alex was getting herself into and she didn’t even know it.
The local vet had been giving his services free to Alex so she took the dog to him for a check-up. While examining the dog he found it was microchipped. Meanwhile, Warren Caldwell reached out to Lost and Found Pets to find his lost dog. But when Alex interviewed him at his home she got a bad feeling about him. Many of his responses about his missing dog (a great dane) didn’t sound right to her but she agreed to search for the dog anyway. It wasn’t long before Alex was in great danger.
This book was not what I expected from the title. It’s much better and more interesting than I thought a lost dog story would be. I liked the characters and storyline of this mystery. The drama and light romance in this quick read kept my interest right to the end.
I really liked this book and am glad I got a copy in exchange for my honest review. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Lost and Found Pets series.
