From the author of the runaway bestseller The Orphan’s Tale comes a remarkable story of friendship and courage centered around three women and a ring of female secret agents during World War II.
1946, Manhattan
One morning while passing through Grand Central Terminal on her way to work, Grace Healey finds an abandoned suitcase tucked beneath a bench. Unable to resist her own curiosity, Grace opens the suitcase, where she discovers a dozen photographs—each of a different woman. In a moment of impulse, Grace takes the photographs and quickly leaves the station.
Grace soon learns that the suitcase belonged to a woman named Eleanor Trigg, leader of a network of female secret agents who were deployed out of London during the war. Twelve of these women were sent to Occupied Europe as couriers and radio operators to aid the resistance, but they never returned home, their fates a mystery. Setting out to learn the truth behind the women in the photographs, Grace finds herself drawn to a young mother turned agent named Marie, whose daring mission overseas reveals a remarkable story of friendship, valor and betrayal.
Vividly rendered and inspired by true events, New York Times bestselling author Pam Jenoff shines a light on the incredible heroics of the brave women of the war and weaves a mesmerizing tale of courage, sisterhood and the great strength of women to survive in the hardest of circumstances.

Absolutely wonderful read. Historical fiction with real life events seamlessly woven in. Amazing and heart wrenching tale of women’s little known roles in espionage during WWII. Wonderfully developed characters. Well done. I’m hooked on this topic now.
This is the book I wish I’d written, but Jenoff does a far better job with it than I would. Inspired by the true stories of women agents parachuting into occupied Europe to assist the resistance during WWII, Jenoff takes a fresh approach by going back and forth in time from a woman who discovers their stories quite by accident once the war has ended, and the agents themselves. Brilliant book, extremely well-written.
Another story bases on true events of WWII. Story of the women who participated by spying for the Allies, died for their efforts, but were forgotten by history.
Good until the ladies arrived in France then I agree with another reviewer; not a believable story line. The main protagonist was just too whinny for a spy.
Strong characters. Kept my interest to the end.
A wonderfully written story of strong women during WWII.
Parts seemed contrived
A historical fiction book about radio operators sent into WWII to transmit messages. Some took on other roles and disappeared. Interesting story.
Although this is a very good novel, there are two decisions that troubled me: The decision of a single Mom to leave her only child for the war effort. Another Paris girl gives up the love of a really good man for the same cause.
I listened to this one as an audiobook, and it was truly haunting. Switching between three points of view in 1944 and 1946, it was a captivating look into some of the women who worked for SOE during World War II. Mysterious and an ending that I hoped for but wasn’t sure I’d get.
This was a book I could not stop thinking about. Truly a gripping read with three POV heroines, all tied together through a bundle of photographs.
Super book very informative I had no idea this occurred during World War II and yet so sad because so many didn’t come home
Got very angry with lack of early support during this period by other countries.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Very interesting. Highly recommend
This is my first Jenoff book and I was not disappointed. A fascinating look inside the secret workings of the men and women who helped win WWII. I couldn’t help but root for the English women dropped into occupied France and the American woman determined to give them their due.
Fascinating story about a piece of WWII history I knew nothing about.
I love historical fiction about WWII. This was a story that I wasn’t familiar with and although sad, I’m glad to know the story.
The courageous characters depicted shine a little light on what real people actually did during the war.
I insisted on finishing the book @ 1:30am. I couldn’t wait until morning to read the ending. This is a great book for the WWII genre
Inspired by true events, The Lost Girls of Paris by Pam Jenoff successfully toggles back and forth between 1944 and 1946, chronicling the origins and clandestine operations of the Britain’s Special Operations Executive (SOE) Women’s Unit during WWII. Interweaving the lives of three women, the author delivers a compelling story of unwavering dedication, courage, and friendship as unit members make personal sacrifices and risk their lives to aid French resistance fighters, and sabotage Germany’s war efforts.
