One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

Loved the books read before the movies eather the live action or the animated one
One of the best books I’vs ever read
One of the best books I’ve ever read! I can’t say enough good things about Gandalf, Frodo and Sam.
A classic. Very detailed, rich characters and scenery. So descriptive you can almost feel yourself in the story. Good versus evil in an intricate absorbing tale. One of the best books ever written.
Great introductory into the fantasy world.
THE master of epic fantasy
Absolutely a great read, can’t recommend it enough. First read it almost 50 years ago and it still has not lost its power and entertainment value. A good 60 something friend bought a hard copy in his 20’s and still reads it at least every other year.
Not like the movies
My all-time favorite.
Re-read often.
Tolkein puts me to sleep. I cannot read his works, Boring!
Sheer genius…
On off the original works of fantasy literature by which all other works of fantasy are judged.
The epitome of sagas.
Learn more about this world, these characters, and their adventures, than the movies could ever convey.
This is a classic for a reason. J.R.R. Tolkien pulls you into an epic fantasy unlike anything I have ever read. It is one of the more epic tales ever told and Tolkien does it best.
Nothing to say but superb! Single-handedly jump-started a genre!
JRR Tolkien is the standard to which every fiction writer measures himself. I have read it three times because I fall in love with it every time I start it. It can be involved but it IS worth reading.
THE classic Swords & Sorcery epic fantasy. The standard against which the rest of the genre is .measured.
The trilogy of the Lord of the Rings is one of the finest works of fiction in the English language, in my opinion. I have read, and listened to it read, many times. It is an epic tale of good vs. evil, friendship and courage in the face of adversity, and a celebration of lore and fantasy ‘s value in our culture.
