One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

Loved reading this series again as a adult!
Review for the Portuguese reader.
This is the foundation of all the good Europeanish fantasy novels. Actually the trilogy is. Very, very few have come anywhere near the Middle Earth novels.
Must read all three books. Awesome.
I only regret the inclusion of Tom Bombadil (unnecessary to plot) and the flat/static character of Arwen
This is one of my favorite fantasy series. I love Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings is my ultimate favorite book ever. I usually reread it every year as comfort. The language of Tolkien stays with you. It is important to remember even someone small can change the world.
This has been and still remains my absolute favorite work of fiction since I first read it 53 years ago. The world it is set in is enchanting, endearing, wondrous, and terrifying, its characters range from the worst horrors to the most steadfast and resolute defenders of good’s triumph over evil. Every time I have read this book (14 times to date) …
The original epuc fantasy by the most creative author.
If you’ve seen the movies but haven’t read the books, you’ve missed a lot.
Loved all of the Lord of the Rings books. One of my all-time favorites.
The classic which jump-started the genre of Epic Fantasy.
I read this the first time back in the mid 1970s and have read it many times again since then. Still the greatest fictional book I have ever (or probably ever will) read.
Loved loved this series.Great story
If your a fan of Fantasy, Epic or otherwise, Then you’ve already read this book. And with all of the very well done movie adaptations out there how much plot does anyone need explained? The story of The One Ring and the struggle to survive long enough to destroy it. The deep World building, the awesome character development, the emotional …
The Trilogy is my favorite series of books. I first read it in High School and have read it twice since. Wonderful writing, if you have any imagination, you should submerge yourself inside these books.
Have read this more times than I can count. No higher praise than that.
Very good book. Read all three books and saw the movies. Also read The Hobbit and saw the movies. I have reread these books several times over the years.
Love this trilogy!
Classic. Nothing to add to comments. The epitome of all fantasy literature. I love it.
