One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

One of the best series I have ever read. Truly the Gold Standard by which all other epic fantasy is measured.
My all time favorite series by my favorite author ever.
Beyond words! Read it when I was twelve living in South America during hard times. It absolutely inspired me to become an author.
If I could only touch the imaginative soles of J.R.R Tolkien…
After having read this trilogy 27 times over 50 years it is still number one on my list; ’nuff said.
There is a reason that this book is a classic. Tolkien created (with his author brainstorming group) this genre. Beautiful characters that stay with you for a lifetime.
Amazing !
I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy throughout 2020, and it kept my spirits up during a tumultuous and at times frightening year. I needed to read about good conquering evil, and moving through despair into hope, was uplifting. And there is no one, absolutely no one, whose descriptions of trees – and other natural scenes – match Tolkien’s. If you …
This is on the 1st rank in my favourite list and will stay there forever.
I LOVE JRR Tolkien and this book and trilogy. This trilogy is one of my GO TO books when I am feeling overwhelmed and need an escape. I find this so all encompassing that I totally forget where I am and what world I am in.
Tolkien has created a marvelous, intricate, multilayered world and a new language for readers to discover – Elfin. His …
All time favourite. I reread it every few years. Absolutely fabulous books
Tolkien was a genius
This novel, and the entire series itself is simply a masterpiece.
One of the most inspirational books in my life! It needs dedication to produce this masterpiece. I love every aspect in the story. It’s very wide but I never regret spending my time entering the world of JRR Tolkien. It’s an example of how man’s imagination can be so marvelous.
Tolkein is a must read for young and old.
The original and classic LOTR! It might not be that page-turner that modern readers prefer, but take time to soak in the incredible language and the layers of world-building. There’s nothing like the richness and haunting beauty of Tolkien’s writing.
Loved it
The beginning of an amazing story.
Love the world, language and the characters of Lord of The Rings! What more can I say?
I’ve read this one a few times. I feel as though I owe a lot of what kind of author I am today to Tolkein.
Such a classic. Love everything about this book from the characters to the storyline.
So well written!! I’ve read the series many times!
