One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

Incredible world-building. Tolkein invented languages for the various people of his world. Such dedication to inventing a story. Very well-written. Classic story that teens and adults are still reading.
A wonderful part of the trilogy. After the Hobbit, this was an amazing continuation of the story.
This is a good read. Action packed and fast paced. It read almost as if you were there
Who doesn’t love The Lord of The Rings? It is by far my favorite read!
A true classic. Love Tolkien books. . Ones you visit again and again and share with each generation.
I was just a kid when I first heard about J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterful trilogy. I was at the movies with my father when a trailer for The Fellowship of the Ring came on the screen. He jumped forward in his seat and his eyes lit up. He told me that we had to see it but, first, I had to read the novels.
Though originally intended as one massive …
One of the classics – worth e re-reading along with Atlas Shrugged
Greatest fantasy trilogy of all time–and maybe the best literary masterpiece ever.
The only down side is also an up side. One really needs to read The Hobbit first. The Hobbit although a completely separate book, it sets the stage for what is to follow. Having the Hobbit as base endears you the characters and their struggles that are in The Lord of The Rings.
An epic with classic world-building and satisfying plot. Beautiful descriptions. Creative language. Enduring quotations. Universal truths.
This book is my favorite of all time.
Its Lord of the Rings, just read them!
The fantasy classic! I’ve read and loved the Lord of the Rings since I was young! Once you read it you will be a fan too. You will return time after time to enjoy every single word! Thank you!
Favorite book of all time.
Best trilogy ever!!! I have read it several times and I will be reading it again and again!
Read this the first time in high school. It’s the kind of book you can read over again and again and still get something new or different out of it.
I first read this book in high school many years ago. I still reread it.
This is one of the classical series if you like Fantasy novels. Tolkien builds a tremendous world of Middle Earth and places you in it. It is full of high adventure. It is a masterfully told tale.
It still amazes me that there is any controversy over whether this is a classic of literature. The father of Fantasy created a work that was so much more than just a genre piece. This is a modern classic and should be read by all. For an in depth study of how LOTR is constructed watch Michael Drouts lecture at https://youtu.be/lXAvF9p8nmM.
A must read Classic!
