One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.

I have read and reread this book for over 40 years and have enjoyed it and all of the other books in this world of Shannara
Absolutely one of the best books I’ve read!! He really makes his characters come alive.
High five stars!
better insight of what is going on than a movie can produce.
This was a wonderful series. I have read it three times and could happily read it again. I highly recommend this series, including The Hobbit.
Best book ever!
Not perfect but wonderful.
Hands-down the best book ever written.
The third best book ever written (after the Bible and Calvin’s Institutes).
I have read this book at least 5 times since I discovered it in late 60s. Good read after the movies, fills in a lot of missing details.
Tolkien was way ahead of his time.
In the fantasy realm, it really just doesn’t get better.
Hands down best books ever read, and ive read hundreds. The history created by J.R.R. Tolkien is so detailed. I’ll love the characters forever, its a family tradition now!
A must read
The reason I started reading. Read Tolkien when I was a teenager and haven’t stop.
One of the few books I’ve reread. I’ve read this maybe 8 times over the past 40 years and shared it with children and grandchildren.
Tolkien is the God of fantasy. He created the genre. This is an intense ride. You really have to read “Fellowship of the Ring” & “The Two Towers” to understand the plot and the characters. If you really want to the back story you have to start w “The Hobbit” (my personal favorite). He created characters that have generations of history. They & the …
One of the few books I have read more than twice. I truly lost count of the times I read it over my lifetime. I get something new each time I read it. The author is a true pioneer of the genre and a hero of mine.
I’ve read it 7 times, twice aloud. Probably one of the finest stories ever written.
The classic fantasy. As devolped of an ‘alternate worl’ as you can get.
