One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

These books are my favorite books of all time.
Simply one of the best stories ever.
Are you kidding me!
Nothing equals the classic of them all, Tolkien’s original LOTR. This edition is revised and reviewed by his son Christopher, and contains all three of the volumes as first published. Now the work, which Tolkien never conceived of as a trilogy, is available in a single ebook. Wonderful!
A classic that everyone should own and reread time and time again. This book truly never gets old.
The book that created the entire modern fantasy genre.
The greatest trilogy ever written!
There is nothing I can add to this classic’s reviews that hasn’t already been written. Read it if you haven’t already, Even if you have seen the movies, the books are still worth reading. There may be better fantasy stories written now, but that does not diminish the greatness of LoTR.
As a foundation text for much modern fantasy and science fiction, I would recommend this for the serious fan of the those twin genres.
One of the greats!!
One of my favorite books – along with the other 2 in the series. Amazing.
Classic!
This ushered in the modern era of fantasy.
The original and one of a kind fantasy that sets the bar for all others that I read. If you haven’t read it but think you like fantasy, you haven’t lived yet.
This series is the founding father of the fantasy genre. A true classic.
There is a story within the story. Great truths about humanity are presented. This is story telling like Russian fairy tales. There is more than meets the eye.
The Lord of the Rings is the defining book for modern adult fantasy. Having said this, it transcends the other entries in the field it created since it ranges from historical commentary through the “myth as distilled common experience” approach to a storytelling niche in which J R R Tolkien has no equal.
A Classic for all ages! Absolutely my favorite epic fantasy tale of ALL time!
Tolkien is not an easy author to read, but every word is worth it. The world building is fantastic and you feel a part of the journey.
It’s a readable classic. Great characters, story line and wonderful language.
