One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

Awesome Classic! If you haven’t read it what are you waiting for? There is so much more to this story than what you see in the movies…
A master work defining the sword and sorcery genre.
This was my gateway drug to reading fantasy/sci fi when I was in my early teens.
A must read – several times!
The one and only! This trilogy should be read by all!!
Who hasn’t read these books!! Probably the all-time best “fantasy” story ever written. Without even going into the history and languages created by Tolkien, this is the most amazing world building ever.
If you haven’t read it, read the Hobbit first and then these 3 books.
If you have read it, read it again as I am for a re-enjoyment of a wonderful …
A little long for quick reading but is a wonderful use of language, characters, and a totally believable world and actions. Very enjoyable.
An all time favorite.
One of the best books ever written! FAR FAR better than the silly movie. I’ve read it every year or two since 1970, and now it is great to have it on Kindle, in a definitive version. Forget the movie, the book has MUCH better pictures. Get it now if you haven’t read it.
Fantasy. Easily one of the best.
I’m a huge fan of Tolkien. He began writing his legacy 100 years ago and it’s still going strong. Fantasy writers try to mimic and compare their work to his. The Lord of the Rings series is a masterpiece. I can read/listen to this book trilogy over and over again and still pick up new things I missed. The author’s version of the story is so …
Great story, had seen the movies but wanted to experience the books. Great story by a great story teller!
Middle Earth is the Home you will wish for so you can be sung of in all of the great stories.
Epic!
Classic!
It’s a classic. Must read.
The very best fantasy series of all time! I read these books over 40 years ago and I have been hooked on fantasy ever since! If you have never read these I urge you to get started as soon as possible. If you have kids over 8 or 9 they will be forever grateful to you for introducing them to this series. THE VERY BEST!!!
Rereading this book is like spending time with an old friend, I was ten and this was my first taste of fantasy, I have been hooked for 50 years.
An amazing classic.
I read The Lord of the Rings for the first time when I was eighteen. That was fifty years ago now and it is still my favorite book. I have read it so many times that I have lost count, and I don’t need a bookmark to find my place. I never tired of it (with the possible exception of Tom Bombadil). When I was young, Middle Earth was where I wanted …
