One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

A truly epic epic tale. One that set the tone for much of the Fantasy genre works for years thereafter. Its characters are believable, its plot full but not excruciatingly complex and although I’ve read it two dozen times already, I am certain I will always find enjoyment in reading it yet again.
Probably the best fantasy tale ever told
Best fantasy book. Enthralling.
My favorite book of all time.
There are no accolades I can give that someone else hasn’t already given him. He deserves them.
One of my favorite book series . i know some people say it’s boring or hard to follow but I honestly love the story and characters and think it’s easy to follow
A true classic! It’s not a quick read, but worth it!
Fantasy adventure, full dynamic characters of all shape and sizes who come together to stop a evil from being a leash and destroying the world.
The classic beginnings of fantasy writing and still one of the best.
Classic iteration of the Quest genre in fantasy. It set the bar for writers of fantasy fiction and continues to be one of the most popular trilogies.
Quintessential fantasy.
Amazing fantasy work. I have read it again and again.
First installment of a wonderful fantasy series that modern fantasy is formed after.
This was not in my regulat genre, so it wasn’t one I thought I would like. After seeing the assorted movies over the years I always felt there was too much war and violence. The good part of reading the book let you know the feelings of each character better.
An amazing world that is rich and sparks the imagination.!
This is a classic standard in epic fantasy. Tolkien drew from many mythologies to create a story of good and evil. The world he built is someplace readers can imagine stepping into. The characters are tested against seemingly impossible odds to reveal their inner beings by the choices they make.
This was the first “grown-up” book I read as a kid and, like countless others, impacted my imagination of worlds far beyond what any other book had prior to reading it.
One of the best books ever written.
Easy to read with lots of action and great story line
Lord of the Rings captured my imagination at a young age and helped to form my love of reading.
