One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

A Must Read.
The original, I read it 50 years ago and it still resonates in my mind
Best book ever!!
One of the most influential works of fantasy ever written. I loved this story.
read series
I loved this series and actually took a class in collage that included LOTR and the writings of CS Lewis and another author I can’t remember now. Full of wisdom about the core values of mankind and mankind’s failure to always live up to those values. But true heroes are found in life. They are rare and nearly always suffer for their sacrifices. …
I found that reading this book worked better for me if I just immerse myself totally rather than reading to get to the end. It is highly detailed, intricate and mind blowing. There is a reason it is a classic.
what can I say about the orignal fantasy epic novel. Loved it!
Well written saga of the classic good vs. evil with delightful characters and scary situations.
This is my favorite book ever. I read it the first time when I was 11 and have reread it countless times!
Great . An obvious classic
Loved these books.
powerful books also read the Hobbit prequil
Timeless wonderful read and chatacters
The Lord of the Rings is amazing and while Tolkien did this to have a world for his created language, he ended up creating one of the greatest stories ever. You fail, laugh, love and even die with these amazing characters. Even the dull parts are intended that way, to help you understand what the adventurers are going through. Love it!
Classic fantasy. Tolkein’s writing is not always easy to read. Some of his descriptions get pretty bogged down. But the story is great and you can’t be a fantasy lover and not read this book.
The standard that all other fantasy stories are judged.
What could I possibly add to all the raves this book has garnered? I’ve read this trilogy three times. I recommend this to everyone from young readers on up.
An amazing enchanting tale. Superbly written!
Read it 3 times
