One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. … lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
From Sauron’s fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would complete his dominion.
When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.
The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.
This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.

I pick this up every 7-8 years to read it again. That allows me time to forget some things, and re-experience them again!
One of the great books of Literature.
This is the standard to which all fantasy writing strives to. It’s the grand-daddy of all great fantasy. It’s a must read book for everyone.
After hearing friends talk about The Ring and seeing some of the movies, I decided to bite the bullet and emerse myself in the reading of this intriguing set of stories, and I am glad I did!
OMG..the best ever!
This book is a classic, nothing more needs to be said.
Masterpiece of literature!
The Lord of the Rings – yes, it is long, yes, you already know how it ends. Read it anyway, you will learn a lot and enjoy the slow savoring of a work of art.
A classic!
This is the series that started me down the path of fantasy literature. It is the yardstick by which I judge other novels.
The best of all book series, ever. Amazing detail, characters and story. The books that made fantasy adventure what it is today.
I am glad I read this before seeing the film. The film did not distract but enhanced my enjoyment of what was probably one of the best books I have ever read.
One of the greatest stories ever told of Frodo on his quest and all of the people he meets along the way on his quest, plus the struggles to overcome evil which must be defeated at all costs to all the peoples of middle earth.
Seriously? What has not been said? Nothing to add. Great story and world building.
seriously, who does not know these books??? I have read them so many times and always discover something new. the movies were wonderful, but the books are so much better! Tolkien truly created a whole new world.
Having read this book back in the early 60’s, this series has been a favorite of mine since then. It just sticks with you and throughout my life, I have found referencing the delimma, the honor, the friendship, courage, fears, wisdom, knowledge and tenderness that is all so apparent throughout Tolkien ‘s novels. Genius!
One of the best books I have ever read. I read it 3 times!
When things are out of whack in my life this is my go-to book. This brings me enjoyment, escape, relief, and oh so many other things. My life suddenly doesn’t feel so out of control when you look at the lives of these characters that are so real to life that you wish you could be neighbors and friends. And maybe one day, who knows? Maybe you …
