We first met Poppy and Devon when they were young in Road to Peace. They have each been harboring feelings for the other, but Devon feels she is off limits because of her connection to his uncle. There is trouble brewing with the club, and Devon is caught between his girl and his club. I loved Devon’s protectiveness, but he was over the top on occasion. I really felt Poppy’s frustration a time or two. There is a fair bit of intrigue and some very tense moments on their road to HEA. I really loved this story and all of the Dogs of Fire books.
The Longing blew me away. It wasn’t just the love and romance. It was the suspense, the thrills, the chills, the deviousness of some and the gall of the traitors.
The love within the pages has a been around for a long time. Devon and Poppy know the love that exists between them, but they also know the rules. Poppy is off limits. That is until Devon can stand up to her adopted dad. When he has the confidence to go after what he wants she will be his, but will he be able to keep her.
Devon is helping the Savanah Chapter rebuild after the tragedies that occurred when the Club helped Willow (Saving the Preacher’s Daughter). Everything is going smoothly until the organizations the crushed start to regroup. They want the Dogs gone. They don’t care how they go. Blood will flow. Lives and building will be risked.
The longing, the wanting, the need, the desire make this a romance that had my heart bursting.
This is the second book in the Dogs of Fire: Wolfpack Series by Piper Davenport. These books focus on the second generation of the Dogs of Fire MC. We first met Poppy in Road to Peace, which is her mom, Maisey, and Hatch’s story. Poppy was a young pre-teen at the time, and her spunky personality endeared her to me then. She was sweet, and loving, and very accepting of her mom’s new relationship, as well as all of the Dogs of Fire. Devon is the son of Hatch’s brother, and was also mentioned in Road to Peace.
As Poppy and Devon grew up together, a close friendship formed, along with feelings on both sides that were ignored. Both have their own reasons, and eventually, Poppy goes away to college with her best friend. Misunderstandings, and their own stubbornness, leads to a degradation of their friendship.
Poppy is a strong young woman, and has put up with a lot from Devon. She has no clue what is going on with him, or why he acts the way he does. She has a great outlook on life, knows what she wants, but hasn’t been able to get Devon to see things her way.
Devon is so stubborn! He has it in his mind that things should be one way, and won’t deviate from that.
I enjoyed this book, even more than Maisey and Hatch’s book. There is lots of action, as well as enough laughs to keep the story moving. I love visiting with old “friends” from previous books, and there was plenty of that here!
Although this book is part of a series, as well as being connected to a previous series, it can be read alone. However, reading the other books in both series makes the story much more enjoyable.
I loved reading Poppy and Devon’s story. Poppy is hilarious!
To say that I loved this book is an understatement! I could not wait for Poppy and Devon’s story and this did not disappoint. Poppy is my kind of heroine, she is smart, sassy, and funny. Devon is the perfect mix of Alpha and romantic biker. I read this book in almost one sitting, I laughed out loud and may have clapped with joy at some scenes. This book has so many great qualities, romance, action, just enough angst and humor. This book is apart of a series but can be read as a standalone. If you love MC books then this is your next 5 star read!
4.5 Stars
The Longing is the second title in the Dogs of Fire: Wolf Pack and features Poppy and Devon. It’s a thoroughly engaging, and entertaining read.
Poppy first appeared in Maisy and Hatch’s story Road to Peace, and I was incredibly eager to read this title after finishing The Promise, the first title in the Wolf Pack series.
I adored Poppy’s character she’s stubborn, strong, feisty, outspoken and quite funny. She’s not afraid to go after what she wants and is really quite determined once she makes up her mind. I adored her realtionship with Hatch her (SID or Stand in Dad) who is also Devon’s uncle.
Devon is a stubborn, swoon worthy, dirty talking alpha. Whilst he’s sexy and loving, he is also very stubborn and really plays hard to get.
The realtionship between this pair if full of pushing and pulling, with miscommunication and bad timing causing friction they drift apart. They are both incredibly stubborn, and jealous, whilst often at logger heads or hostile with each other in their attempts to stave off heartbreak.
The banter between this pair is fun and flirty, and full of humor. I loved the fact that their remarks are both sarcastic or antagonistic, but also quite funny at times, and I quite often found myself laughing out loud.
I loved that this title not only incorporates side characters from the original Dogs of Fire, but also the Savannah chapter who appeared in Saving the Preacher’s daughter.
The Longing is a fast paced MC romance, full of suspense, intrigue, action, angst and drama and not to mention the hot love. I cannot wait for more from Piper Davenport. I have yet to be disappointed by any of the books in the Dogs of Fire series, and will be eagerly awaiting additional titles to the Wolf Pack and Savannah chapter.

You know, I just love a good MC book. That bad boy with a heart of gold element just gets me every time. This book definitely delivers. The bikes, the drama, the crime, the hot, hot sexy times. The writing is well done, I just could not put this book down. When I had to it kept calling to me until I picked it back up. Absolutely wonderfully entertaining characters that make you want to see what they are going to do next. I sincerely look forward to what Ms. Davenport has in store for us next.
