My only true love is gone. I only wish he knew how much I loved himArabella Marchmont was destroyed when she found out that Jacob died in the war.It was her fault he was there in the first place. A simple life, free of heartache, might be just all that she could hope for.
But just as she starts to set her mind to the marriage, a familiar face limps back to Grosvenor Square.
Shockingly, her Jacob has returned, but is he even the same Jacob that left all that time ago.? Could he ever even be the same Jacob that proposed to her?

This was a sweet novel that dealt with rejection (maybe), the death of a person, and a busy body mother. The characters were well developed as was the story. I loved this story as well as the first in the series. Can’t wait for the rest of the series.

Loved the book. Thinking Jacob died in the war, Arabella is betrothed to Lord Winchester but is not happy about the situation. Jacob returns and things change. They realize they love each other and Arabella ends the engagement to Winchester after he becomes rude and controlling. He refuses to give her up and sets about to blackmail both Arabella and Jacob. There is a lot of intrigue and danger occurring in this book which makes it an excellent read. I would highly recommend it and it is appropriate for any age group.
A very lovely story of love… Friends to love relationship, a misunderstanding and miscommunication leads to years of hurt and longing. Arabella thought Jacob was teasing her when he declared his love for her. Jacob hurt from Arabella laughing at his declaration of love went off to the war, it was then Arabella realized he was not teasing her and she also realized she loved him too for a long time. Then comes the message that Jacob is dead and Arabella blames herself for his death… there is so much more to this story to read it has love, suspense and a crazy man in this story you need to read it to get all the juice little deals of this wonderful story. You will be so glad you did, I could not put it down!

I really enjoyed this book. When childhood friend Jacob proposes to Arabella she thinks he’s prancing her again! When he goes off with his heart shattered and goes to war, she realize meant it ! Searching herself and realizes she loves him too she is devastated to find out he was killed! After finally deciding she must move forward in her life she becomes engaged to Winchester who is an earl. Once she realizes how reprehensible he is she breaks off the engagement. Facing his wrath she is delighted to find the rumors were wrong and her Jacob has returned to her but does he feel the same. This book was entertaining and dark at some points. I really enjoyed the characters and their depth. No one does regency like Rose Pearson! I recommend this book and this author!

Arabella Marchmont, daughter to the Earl of Blackford, tried hard not to giggle as she ran and hid from Jacob St. Leger, second son the Duke of Crestwick, in their game. No matter where she hid, he always found her. It didn’t look like that would ever change.
When they were grown up, Jacob’s father wanted him to go to London for the Season and consider his future. He found Arabella in the library, hiding out from a man she was supposed to entertain but instead claimed a headache to hide out in the library. Jacob told her he had been thinking seriously, and he wanted his future to be with her. She was convinced he was teasing her and said it was in poor taste! She left the room, waiting for him to laughingly follow and confess… but he didn’t. She didn’t even turn around to see the hurt look on his face as she walked away.
Every day, Arabella re-read the letter Jacob sent to her as he left to serve in the army, the letter explaining he had meant every word of the proposal. He had loved her always and his heart was broken. She wrote him immediately, but it was too late. So now, every day she asked the maid if a letter had arrived from him. He had been gone for 8 months and she never knew if he would come back to her.
With her two sisters betrothed, Arabella left the room when the talk turned to their weddings. Her mother hurried out after her and told her that she now needed to find a husband too! She said it was up to Arabella to marry a man of title and wealth and she was not to wait around for Jacob any longer — he probably wouldn’t even be interested in her after she rejected him anyway! Arabella firmly insisted that she would wait for Jacob! As she turned to walk away, a maid ran to her with a letter in her hand! But it was not a message of joy or hope – Jacob had been killed!
Although her mother let her grieve in peace for 6 months, at Martha’s wedding she was informed that she had to begin meeting gentlemen again. Finally her mother told her The Earl of Winchester wanted to meet her. As they talked, he mentioned her going to London for the Season, as her mother had told him – and he asked to call upon her and get to know her better!
Jacob finally arrived in England, having received word of his brother’s illness and death while he was recovering from his own wounds from the battle. He now had to prepare to become the next Duke of Crestwick when the proper time came. He would have to marry immediately and produce an heir – his mother probably had the ladies already lined up for him.
Arabella’s mother continued to encourage a relationship for Arabella with The Earl of Winchester, despite the fact that Arabella had no interest at all. But with no hope for a life with Jacob now, feeling guilty that her rejection sent him to war and to his death, maybe it didn’t matter that she would never care for a husband. As her mother sneaked out of the room, the Earl announced she was suitable for him as his wife – no talk of love, no joy in his eyes – as her mother rushed back in the room and said YES, her daughter would accept! Neither noticed that Arabella was speechless and said nothing. Soon enough the notice would be in the papers and the news spread all around London. How would Jacob react when he learned of her wedding planned within the month? How would Arabella react if the love of her life showed up alive and still in love with her?
This was an amazing story. Through a misunderstanding that an expression of love was meant as a joke between friends, Jacob and Arabella are kept apart. Grab your copy of this emotional story to see if their future is still out of reach and, if not, how can it be saved?
Arabella and Jacob grew up as best friends. Then one day he confesses his love for her and proposes marriage but she thinks it’s just a joke and breaks his heart. This mistake she will long regret, and they will go through many trials and ups and downs trying to find their way back to one another. This would have been a five star read for me as I love a strong heroine and a sweet romance but a man , especially a future Duke, should have shown a lot more strength and courage than Jacob exhibited.

The Return Was Ultimately Worth The Wait
Many a love-match has been derailed by a simple misunderstanding. Such is the case with the would be lovers featured in The Long Return by Rose Pearson.
Lady Arabella Marchmont and Lord Jacob St. Leger have know each other since they were children. Their fondness for each other was clear to all. Later, when as young adults, his feelings become more intense and her feelings become confused. As expected, the fabric of their friendship is torn, and nearly destroyed. It will take a very long time before any resolution will be forthcoming.
Ms. Pearson’s descriptive style lends itself well to Arabella and Jacob’s story. The main characters are written authentically, and the story is believable. Ms. Pearson takes her time and does not rush towards the expected happy ending. The ending is made more satisfying with a delightful epilogue.
As with all of Ms. Pearson’s stand-alone books, The Long Return is very sweet and squeaky clean. It is suitable for any age reader of Regency romance. As a personal aside, I love the book cover. It is one of my favorites from among her works.

Well done. Worth your time.
I enjoyed this Regency Romance that kept me entertained and engaged from beginning to end with interesting characters and a story that included lots of drama and emotional romance. I liked the dynamic between Lady Arabella Marchmont and Lord Jacob St Ledger who are given a second chance at romance when he returns home after being reported killed in the war. This is a must-read for fans of this genre and I look forward to reading more by this talented author. I received an advance reader copy of THE LONG RETURN from Booksprout and this is my voluntary review.
What happens when your best friend tells you he loves you. And you think it is a joke? Will he ever come back? and if he does will he forgive me? Wonderful book of hope in spite of lots of mistakes!

The characters are great apart and together. They both face trials; Jacob has a greater pain physically and mentally. They now share something they must both work through in order to save his sister, Sara. Anabella takes risks to help those who are close to her and Jacob. Pick up a copy, sit back and find out what they go through, see if you think Lord Winchester is who he says he is, meet Lord Haleysworthy and his sister and all the family members.

Misunderstanding with the resultant weeping is your preference then this is your book. H and H are very emotional and …for me…sort of portrayed as victims. Not my “cuppa”, but it is perfect for a beach vacay.

“The Long Return” by Rose Pearson
I really liked this story.. But… and I know not why, I never so to speak fell in love with any of the characters. Oh, I liked them,, except the one(s) you are not supposed to like.. and I kept wanting all the best for those I did like. I did get quite frustrated with some of the choices that the characters made.. but of course if they had made the choices I wanted them to make … it would have been my story and not the one the author, Rose Pearson wrote.. And, maybe, just maybe I was supposed to get frustrated with the characters. Oh, I hope I have not discouraged you from immersing yourself in this adventure.. because it is a really good clean Regency read with some subtle points to ponder re: war and injury recovery and the idiocy of those who haven’t a clue.

Wow, this book has a little of everything, evil, humor, love lost, 2nd chances and family problems.
Arabella Marchmont and Jacob St. Leger were childhood friends till everything changes for them.
It would be hard to say a lot about what happens without giving away some of the story.
Due to a misunderstanding between them, Jacob leaves to go to the service thinking Arabell doesn’t like or need him anymore. Arabella finds out about the mistake and only wishes for him to come home so they can talk. Her mother wants all of her daughter’s to marry wealthy men, regardless if they love them or not.
Arabella sisters Rosalind and Martha have found gentleman they love and will marry in spite of their mother.
They both try to help Arabella and understand she needs to wait for Jacob to set things right.
Lady Marchmont grows tired of waiting and picks a Earl for Arabella and tricks her into being betrothed.
Now the story really gets interesting. The Earl of Winchester is not what he seems.
When a strange turn of events change everything for Arabella, she will need to fight for her live, and love plus that of her family and friends against an evil that wants to take everything from her
Hope this makes you want to find out what happens and read the story.
I received and ARC of this book, and want to thank the author for a great clean story.
Any age can read and enjoy this book.

Arabella knows true love when it comes to Jacob. They had been friends growing up and getting into all kinds of trouble together. It wasn’t until he proposed she thought he was joking did things fall apart. Jacob, being the second son, decided to escape to the Army to forget Arabella. Being injured and having to come home, finding out his brother had died and he was now the heir apparent, he tried to hide himself away. Everyone had been informed he’d been killed in battle and when Arabella discovered the truth, she could no longer follow her mother’s orders in finding someone who was titled. This is a story of will, love and the determination to get what you want. The characters are wonderfully written and the story captures you to read till you finish. I would highly recommend this book.

This book is filled with emotional turbulence. The characters are both emotional people that act impulsively. They are childhood friends that could be lifelong lovers if they got out of their own way.
