An unmissable milestone for fans of Sir Terry Pratchett: the first SF novel in over three decades in which the visionary inventor of Discworld has created a new universe of tantalizing possibilities—a series of parallel “Earths” with doorways leading to adventure, intrigue, excitement, and an escape into the furthest reaches of the imagination.
The Long Earth, written with award-winning novelist … award-winning novelist Stephen Baxter, author of Stone Spring, Ark, and Floodwill, captivate science fiction fans of all stripes, readers of Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and Carl Hiaasen, and anyone who enjoyed the Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman collaboration Good Omens.
The Long Earth is an adventure of the highest order—and an unforgettable read.

I always find myself in an odd mood when I re-read this book. On one hand, it’s very dream-like, on the other, it seems so possible. It’s easy to fall into the story line and start wondering what could be…
Sometimes boring…hard to hold my attention
Overall, I enjoyed The Long Earth. It’s always fun to experience a creative exploration and explanation of an otherwise baffling question about our perceived reality or mythology. For the same reason, I loved Stargate.
I had two problems with this, however. One, the story ended so abruptly, it was disconcerting. I get that it’s a series, but …
This book had great potential but dropped the ball along the way. Interesting concepts that were never fully developed. It ends abruptly without a conclusion.
long pointless story. the ending just fizzled out and I felt robbed of my time.
Savored every word.
Interesting but I won’t read sequel.
An interesting premise that is fleshed out and one that hardcore sci-fi fans will enjoy,, but I found the characters weakly drawn and three weeks later I don’t remember how the story ended.
After all the plot jumps at the beginning, this books settles down to three characters including a super intelligent and supreme ruler robot-like presence. My only complaint after getting hooked was that I didn’t realize it is a multi-novel set and I need to read the next (or 2 or 3, can’t remember) to see how everything turns out. Either I …
Not my favorite Pratchett. Long and sometimes slow. Not as much humor as most of his books. Four stars maybe a stretch.
Interesting concepts. Not humerus like Diskworld
Clever prediction of a world of multiple universes
Well rounded characters in a interesting well constructed environment. Having read The Long Earth I had to seek out and read the sequel.(s)
It has been a while since I read this book, I would read anything by Terry Pratchett, but it is more in the realm of sci-fi than his fantasy genre that he is most known for. An interesting concept of walking between parallel earths to infinity.
Even though it wasn’t Discworld related, I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting direction for Pratchett to take – more SciFi than fantasy.
The concepts were great but the writers didn’t get hung up on the science. It was more about the impact of the sudden changes on society and a particular group of characters. It was a great read that got me thinking!
