Jack Tate is hopeless…
Everything he touches turns into a disaster, though he does mean well.
His business is even less successful than his love life.
Most of the customers in his coffee shop have deserted him for the major chains, leaving him only with the old folk, for the most part, who unfortunately don’t have or spend all that much dosh.
Bracing herself for a trip to the job centre, his underappreciated assistant, Emma, helps Jack realise that the solution could actually be right under his very nose. The last chance to save his failing business could well be the formation of the Isle of Man’s first and only dating club for the elderly: The Lonely Heart Attack Club!
While the majority of his wrinkly client base may be in their twilight years, Jack will soon come to realise that there are still a fair number of tunes left to play on an old fiddle, so to speak.
The third book in the hilarious series, Project VIP is out now!

What a great take on getting older.
A genuine pleasure to read! I hadn’t expected much from this since it came to me as a free promo, and it appeared it was the intro to a set of serial works. I was totally happily surprised and amazed. First the writing is excellent and there weren’t any uncorrected errors that distract me. The characters though comically funny felt very real and mostly likable. The plot was reasonable and did not stretch the imagination beyond limits. And it turned out not to be the beginning of a serial publication, but the first of a series of what will probably be related stand alone books (think of Janet Evanovich’s or Carl Hiaasen’s books). To me, it was like watching a very good Rom-Com movie (it would make a great one). I was constantly anxious to get back to the book to find out what happens next to these people I had come to care about. My only negative comment is that the shop that is at the heart of the story would today be closed down as a hostile work environment (and quite correctly). Don’t be afraid of the U.K. setting or accents in the writing – they won’t get in the way of a great read.
A sweet story. I would give it a 3.5 but that’s not an option.
Fun read that brought the elderly to the spotlight. Loved the inspiration of thinking outside the box to engage our elderly population.
Fun summer read. Looking forward to the next one.
Couldn’t get into this at all.
One of the few books I did not finish
Loved it.
I was looking for something to laugh about since I’m in my 70’s, but I found this book to be rather predictable and sort of silly instead.
I could not get into the story line…and did not finish it.
It affected alot of people’s lives by making them better–more hopeful.
We need some easy and relaxing reads in this difficult time.
The characters were interesting, but the language was unnecessarily vulgar. It ruined my enjoyment of the story.
This is a story of doing good, and it will come back to you. Delightful.
something different
Quite enjoyable with atypical characters. I’m looking forward to reading the second in the series.
This was a fun read. It was entertaining and inspiring. Good characters. It was a feel-good book. loved it and made me laugh out loud.
A lighthearted, funny read. Sweet characters that are very real. I have read the entire series and have had laugh out loud moments in each book. Very enjoyable reads.
I would have given it 5-stars except for the profanity and sexual parts.
Cute but predictable. Suitable for a Hallmark movie. Two middle-aged owners of a faltering coffee shop on the Isle of Mann come up with a business development idea. They elect to turn their shop into a social scene for the elderly since that is who comprises most of their custom anyway. Their speed dating night was more “leisurely shuffling dating.” When I think of a social event for senior citizens, I still picture Big Band era music. I forget that I am now among the seniors. When the coffee shop has a dance, they outfit the space like a mini disco, with flashing lights, disco ball, and a full sound system. Ah yes. That would be my era. While the book was short and essentially forgettable, what I really liked was learning about the setting. I looked up the Isle of Mann and learned so much that I had absolutely not known! Really fascinating. Maybe I’ll visit someday.
