I love all of Bette’s book – they are a great combination of sweet & happy and a little sorry/conflict. there are so many things to like about this book – watching Annie & Oliver start their new life together, Ophelia realizing that at 90 things don’t have to stay the same and the introduction of Max(ine) – an architect that is going to help redesign Memory House but becomes fast friends with Annie. Annie needs a good gal pal to be able to share things with.
When reading the book everything is going along really well and there is a small hiccup but not much to derail Annie’s happiness. So the keeper of the Scales of Life has to balance the scale. I loved that analogy, that there is someone that keeps the scales of life balanced – equal amounts of good and bad.
I can’t wait until book 3 comes out!!!
This book is based on an interesting idea that memories can heal and bring a person back from being in a “lost” area. I like to think that is a possibility.
This is the second book in the Memory House series. It is a good continuation of the first book, but it is a complete story on it’s own. In my opinion, the first book is a good foundation for the second book.
While this is a good story, I actually liked the first book better. That is because I adore stories of a relationship between a person in the older generation with someone of much younger years. Memory house was centered around Ophelia and Annie. The older generation sharing knowledge and love to help the younger one grow.
The Loft is based on Annie and Oliver’s love story and while it is a good read, I still longed for more of the wisdom of Ophelia to be present.
The books can be read independently, but I would suggest to others to read the entire two book series. Doing that completes the story.
I love this series so much! This is book 2, I will be reading them all. The characters and story is so endearing. I’m anxious to see where their story goes. On to book 3!
I adored the fist book, Memory House, and had high hopes for this second book. And my hopes were met. I enjoyed being back with these characters and learning more about the memories in the loft.
This picks up right where the first book left off. But big changes are happening. Ophelia is moving on, making new friends and finally letting the memories go. Annie is the new keeper of those memories, but before she gets a chance to settle in, Oliver is injured in a car crash and his life hangs in the balance. Annie must find his most precious memories in order to save him.
It’s not often that you have a story pick up right where the last book left off. It sure was nice to find that happening in this one. I knew change was coming. Ophelia always planned for Annie to take her place as keeper of memories, and I wondered how that would work.
Annie and Oliver just got married and it didn’t seem feasible that all three would live at Memory House. How could the author make this work. She did so in shocking yet gentle ways. Guiding you through some traumatic events, giving you hope that things would work out for everyone.
With some other characters stepping in and out of the story, I knew this part of the journey might be coming to an end but saw fun possibilities for more adventures. One character in particular, I’d like to see more of. She has a sad past and I wonder if the author will give us her story now.
Another gem from Bette Lee Crosby and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Her stellar writing and engaging characters keeps me coming back for more.
Another great book by Bette Lee Crosby! I finished Memory House, the first book in this series. The journey continued with Annie and Ophelia in The Loft. Annie and Oliver were on their way to starting their honeymoon, Ophelia, who is 90 years of age, had a heart attack while driving to church and goes off the road. Annie and Oliver decided to return to memory House to take care of Ophelia and decided to hire architect Max Martinelli to recreate the loft in a wing on the first floor but, while at the rehab Ophelia makes new friends and decides to move into Baylor Towers. One day on his way home from work Oliver’s car gets hit in the side of his car by a drunk driver and is in a coma but, Annie stays with him at the hospital. Can Annie find the right memory to help bring Oliver out of his coma? I truly loved this book and I highly recommend this book but, you need to read Memory House first.
I have very much enjoyed a few of Bette Lee Crosby’s books already, so the second in the Memory House series was no exception. I was excited to find out about the next chapter of Annie, Oliver and Ophelia’s life. This story is filled with love, heartache, family bond, friendship, faith, hope and is truly heartwarming!!
In The Loft, Annie and Oliver have married and are ready to set out on their honeymoon. However, as fate would have it a tragedy occurs and their honeymoon is postponed. Ophelia’s life changes in unusual, but new and exciting ways. She makes a difficult decision to leave behind fifty years of memories, memories of her beloved Edward and the treasures at Memory House, and she gives it to Annie so she can move into a retirement home where her new friends live.
Annie and Oliver had other plans, but reluctantly they agree to accept her offer. Then, tragedy strikes again and shatters Annie’s world. Oliver is in a terrible accident and Annie believes that only by finding the one most important memory can she save him. A tender and emotional love story that continues in the next book in the series, What The Heart Remembers, I look forward to reading what happens next.
