Few stories are as widely read and as universally cherished by children and adults alike as The Little Prince. Richard Howard’s translation of the beloved classic beautifully reflects Saint-Exupéry’s unique and gifted style. Howard, an acclaimed poet and one of the preeminent translators of our time, has excelled in bringing the English text as close as possible to the French, in language, … language, style, and most important, spirit. The artwork in this edition has been restored to match in detail and in color Saint-Exupéry’s original artwork. Combining Richard Howard’s translation with restored original art, this definitive English-language edition of The Little Prince will capture the hearts of readers of all ages.

This book just kept being mentioned in other books, and I knew NOTHING about it, other than that I was pretty sure it was “one of the great classics.” I have really barely read ANY of the great classics, sadly. I think I have tried several and just didn’t get it, or just couldn’t DO it, or didn’t feel smart enough or cultured enough or the words were too hard to “get into” the story with. I had no idea this book was 1, this short, 2, a fantasy, or 3, an allegory. And wouldn’t you know? I have one or two spots left unmarked in one of my reading challenges and it’s “read an allegory”. So now I have. Now, this book was deep, this book was meaningful, a bit confusing, yet not at all. I THINK I get it. But it’s one that I will not begin talking about with others who have read it, who DO feel like they understand it, and who can help me revisit the conversations and the steps of the journey, now that I’ve made it to the end. Which, by the way, I did like the ending. Now, who wants to talk? I want to understand this a lot more and I want to know what other people thought was “so enlightening,” or, “so wonderful,” et cetera., about this book.
I didn’t like this book as much as I wanted to, perhaps because I am a grown up when reading it for the first time. I was a little let down by the ending.
That being said, I like some of the themes throughout the book and think that for most people it’s going to be a pretty good read. Even though didn’t like it as much as I wanted to, I still did enjoy the book.
I highly recommend this book.
This is my favorite “go to” book when I begin to feel lost or uncertain. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly…
The Little Prince is hands down my favorite book in the world. It encodes deep wisdom in the simplest of stories. I have read this book dozens of times since I am 12 and turn to it in those difficult times when I need solace and inspiration. We are, at one time or another, all the characters in this fable, which points to the fallacies of our human condition.
I read this some years back. Reads like a child’s story but inspirational.
A small sweet book about the power and responsibility of love.
After many years this book still is fresh in my memory!
One of my favorites since I read it as a child and to this day, it still makes me cry the same way The House at Pooh Corner does when Christopher Robin leaves Pooh and the rest in The Hundred Acre Wood so he can go to school (grow up).
had to read it in French for French class
Wonderful book for all ages.
Read it many years ago. Can’t remember much about it. Sorry!
One of my favorite children’s books! Such a wonderful read!
All we need is to remember where we come from.
Read it to my kids. Looking forward to reading it with my grandkids
Tender. The beautiful story of a man facing death, lost in the desert, with only his skills to save his life. But a young prince appears, needing a different kind of help. And somewhere the desert hides a well; that is its beauty. A thoughtful analogy of what is important in life.
My favorite
this was really such a nice book
