Martha Andersson may be seventy-nine-years-old and live in a retirement home, but … and live in a retirement home, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to stop enjoying life. So when the new management of Diamond House starts cutting corners to save money, Martha and her four closest friends—The Genius, The Rake, Christina and Anna-Gretta (a.k.a. The League of Pensioners)—won’t stand for it. Fed up with early bedtimes and overcooked veggies, this group of feisty seniors sets about to regain their independence, improve their lot, and stand up for seniors everywhere.
Their solution? White collar crime. What begins as a relatively straightforward robbery of a nearby luxury hotel quickly escalates into an unsolvable heist at the National Museum. With police baffled and the Mafia hot on their trail, the League of Pensioners has to stay one walker’s length ahead if it’s going to succeed….
Told with all the insight and humor of A Man Called Ove or Where’d You Go Bernadette?, The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules is a delightful and heartwarming novel that goes to prove the adage that it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.

Fun. Very light.
This book takes a really good idea and grinds it into the ground. It was a total slog to read.
Poorly written and unrealistic.
Charming story. A charming and amusing tale of mischievous and inventive seniors.
Although this story began in an entertaining and unique manner, it grew tiresome after a while. The characters were able to pull off a heist and hold it for ransom, but bungled it all and ended up in prison. Somehow it grew to be an obsession for the group and they continued to scheme. At that point, it was more than I could take. As I said, tiresome and lacking in rich language.
It was OK. Not very believable.
While an interesting premise, with potential for a lot of fun, either the writing style was totally lacking, or the translation from Swedish was incredibly bad. The writing wad flat narrative, seemingly meant only to advance the plot. The characters were not fleshed out. They were one-dimensional. Too bad. The idea had promise.
Found this entertaining, but won’t go back for seconds. A very quick read.
very basic writing — maybe at a fourth grade level. Characters are all simple. Plot based on the premise that old people acting badly are cute. Did not enjoy this book much and struggled to force myself to finish it.
I didn’t think this was particularly well written, however, the pot and characters were splendid and fun to read.
I liked this book so much that I have recommended it to several friends.
It’s fun to see elderly people behaving badly.
I stopped reading this because it was uninteresting and the various characters were dull. The premise of going to jail for a better life rather than an old folks home is interesting and I wanted to like it, but the story was too convoluted and goofy.
I liked the uniqueness of the story. I had never read anything like it. It is so funny. I plan to read more of this author’s books.
Somewhat amusing but too contrived.
I was disappointed as the book was pretty silly and was stereotypical in it’s description of older adults. I worked in senior living and studied gerontology. Books like this just add to the negative image of people living in retirement communities. It was nothing like the Marigold Hotel which was excellent.
This was a fun book
Funny!
VERY funny
Cute premise, but took much to long to get there
