Bad luck follows Hallie Winstone like a dark cloud, so she is understandably amazed to find herself the winner of a quaint old bookstore.
Reading has always been Hallie’s comfort and she’s dreamed of owning her own store one day- but she didn’t realize how much work it would be to reorganize the old shop. Good thing it comes with a flat upstairs because the store is taking over her life. Financial concerns makes her wonder if she’s jumped from the frying pan to the fire, but a handsome, quirky artist convinces Hallie not to give up.
With Dimitri’s help, Hallie begins to get a handle on the business and excitement blooms when they find books with inscriptions inside their worn covers. The romantic in Hallie wants to bring the people in the messages together, so she and Dimitri hatch a plan to advertise the notes online and the results are more than either of them expected.
This is a sweet, charming rom-com with an underlying message of trust that I found refreshing. Klutzy Dimitri and hapless Hallie make a great couple. And who wouldn’t love to find romance in a bookshop!
“I voluntarily read an ARC of this book which was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.”
The Little Bookshop of Love stories is a sweet, funny ,5 star worthy book in one.
The first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover. The cover is so beautiful.
After admiring the cover,I was fascinated by the Author’s bio immediately after the cover. I love how real and descriptive the author was. Her bio alone promised me an adventure within the pages.
And yes! I wanted to see the Bookshop that is so “little” according to the title.
The book was written in first person narrative. I felt so connected to Hallie.
I laughed, smiled and enjoyed every page in this book.
I like the main character “Hallie“. What an interesting character in the plot. I understand her penchant for reading and I was happy to see that email in the story after such a bad day at work.
There is a great amount of humour in this book. I couldn’t help noticing ” Dimitri “. What a man!
I really wanted to live in that bookshop. All those book titles and authors were making me feel like reading them.
Jaimie Admans has just won my heart with her wonderful book. I can’t wait to read more books by her.
I enjoyed this book so much. I laughed at the conversation between Hallie, her sister and her mum.
This book is funny and enjoyable.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from HQ Digital through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I’ve read three of Jaimie Admans books and loved them all. Her humor and warm, quirky characters ( not to mention happily ever after!) offer a much needed respite from the real word!
So many funny lines and quirky characters. The author’s love for literature was apparent and it inspired me to go back and re-read some old favorites.
I chose this book because I was looking for something romantic and sweet, and boy did it fit the bill. It was as cute as can be. The opening set up for the book was quick and got me right into the story. I adored Dimitri soooooo much! I thought it had a lot of nice little plot points, each one moving the story along to its inevitable ending. It did manage to surprise me a little at the end, though, which was really nice. Every scene was easy to imagine, and I so want to have my own charming bookshop now. If you want to celebrate books and reading and also read the sweetest slow burn love story, pick up this book. You will not be disappointed.
Highly recommended!
The Little Bookshop of Love Stories was such a nice, lovely read.
This was the first time I read Jaimie Admans work and I fell in love with her writing and the plot, a comforting warmth surrounded my heart while reading it.
“I’m a huge supporter of new books too, but rereading old favourites brings a special kind of nostalgia that only books can create. If you reread a book you loved as a child, it transports you back to that time and place in a way that nothing else can. It’s not the same as watching a film or revisiting a real place because it’s somewhere that exists only in your imagination.”
Hallie, is a young woman with a losing record, she can never keep a job and she did almost everything. A day, when she came back home after she has lost yet another waitressing job, she found out she has won her favourite bookshop. Dimitri, is mysterious and talented man. He spent a lot of time at the bookshop drawing a book for kids.
Hallie’s frightened by the burden of responsibility, she thought she isn’t good enough to make the bookshop thrive and survive. Fortunately Dimitri helped her to find her way to keep the shop open and to get back a little of self confidence and hope.
“I’m alone in the world, although I believe that anyone who loves books is never truly alone, and that’s always been enough for me.”
It seemed like this book knew me, and talked about me, but it is more realistic thinking that it spoke to every book lover out there, around the world.
I throughly recommend it.
This story about a woman who wins ownership of the beloved bookshop of her youth is a beautifully written ode to readers everywhere. Hallie Winstone has to jump in the deep end at her new business, which is in the red and has a developer ready to pounce on it. But she’s determined to save the shop and she has the help of illustrator Dimitri who’s delightfully awkward and dreamy and just as much of a bibliophile as Hallie is. These two team up to reinvigorate the store by creating inviting window displays (look out for a mermaid appearance here!) and rearranging the shelves. While doing the latter, they come across several lovely and intriguing handwritten notes inside some of the second-hand merchandise. Compelled to find out more about the people who left these messages, Allie begins to share them online, which attracts the attention of book fans along with the media and even the inscribers themselves! With this newfound fame, will there be a happy ending for Once Upon a Page and Hallie’s budding romance with Dimitri, or will everything go wrong as it always does for poor, beleaguered Hallie?
This book is a charming, heartfelt read I won’t soon forget. I lost track of how many times I teared up when reading it because the characters were able to articulate how much books mean to them in ways that spoke to my soul. I recognized myself in Hallie and Dimitri, which made me root for them even harder. I highly recommend this book to bibliophiles and romantics everywhere. Curl up with a cup of tea and enjoy!
Hallie never has any luck in her life. She’s clumsy, lives with a horrible roommate and can’t hold a job. She often visits the Once Upon a Page Bookshop and is very fond of the owner. When he is ready to retire he starts selling tickets to win the bookshop. Hallie can’t resist this (small) chance and buys one. The bookshop only has one rule…it can never be sold. When Hallie receives the news that her ticket was pulled and that she’s now the proud owner of Once Upon a Page which also has a small apartment she can’t believe her luck. Nothing can go wrong ever again when you win a bookstore or is this a fairytale?
Hallie is in over her head when she takes over the bookshop. The shop isn’t doing well and it needs a miracle to survive. Dimitri knows the previous owner very well and he asks Hallie if he can keep coming to the bookstore to work from a very rare book. Together they spend most of their days and they connect on a deep bookish level. Hallie and Dimitri both are very kind souls. They love books and everything about them. I loved reading about their journey and how they grew closer together with each passing day.
I have loved books ever since I could read and I can build a small house with all the books that I own. Owning a bookstore would be my ultimate bookloving dream so I could relate to Hallie very well. It was very easy to connect with the excitement Hallie and Dimitri felt when they found book after book with a personal message inside. I enjoyed their journey to find the people behind these messages very much.
The Little Bookshop of Love Stories has a magical feel from beginning to end. I was hooked from the start and I couldn’t put it down. I was very invested to find out what would happen to the bookshop and how the friendship of Hallie and Dimitri would evolve. I could easily picture the street and town and would’ve loved to walk around and see all the little shops. If you’re looking for a story you won’t be able to put down The Little Bookshop of Love Stories would be a perfect choice.
This was an utterly charming , humorous and heartwarming read. It was full of quirky fun and a real feel good fix. I was quickly engrossed in the storyline and didn’t want to put the book down once I’d started it.
Hallie was a lovely character , She wins the book store in the title in a raffle . She inherits the shop’s pet goldfish Heathcliff, who has a penchant for the dogs walking past the shop window.
Dimitri is a local artist , who has in the past used an old book housed in the shop to recreate the illustrations inside.
There are lots of references to the animated film Anastasia , as the two bond over their enjoyment of it.
The two discover a series of books with inscriptions inside and decide to trace the owners through social media.
This was a lovely, whimsical read that I thoroughly enjoyed and I would absolutely recommend it .
I received a copy of the book from #Netgalley and voluntarily leave this honest and unbiased review.
What a romantic British rom-com
Hallie hasn’t had much good luck in her life. She’s 35 years old, has a 22 year old male flatmate who is an ass, is terribly clumsy and has just been fired from another job.
Then…she finds out that she has won a bookshop in a lottery, a bookshop she’s loved most of her life. And it includes a small flat above it. It’s in the small picturesque village of Buntingorden in the Cotswolds. And now she’s scared to death. Her dream has come true but she’s not sure she can actually make a go of it.
But handsome klutzy artist and book lover Dimitri stumbles into the shop and the story takes off.
This book is about the magic of books, the love of books, and I have loved books my whole life. I escaped into this story and never wanted to come out. I loved the characters and I loved the story. This is a book I will read again in the future, something I rarely do.
I received this book from HQ Digital UK through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
I always say that Jaimie Admans’ stories are like sunshine in book form, and The Little Bookshop of Love Stories is no different. This book is laugh-out-loud funny, romantic, whimsical, and just an overall delight. The world feels like it’s going to hell in a handbasket at the moment, and this book was a much-needed escape. I started giggling on the first page, and I had a giant, goofy grin on my face almost the entire time I was reading.
This was a sweet story, I like it because I really didn’t know what to expect, the story was sweet and had a little bit of angst in it but the characters made everything so good at all times.. it is a story of hope and determination, it is about trust and friendship.
The Little bookshop of love stories, was a great read, I did enjoy so much the dialogs, the chit chat and the whole shenanigans Hallie and Dimitri brought to us, they really were perfect for each other no matter how much they try to hide it.
Hallie feels like her whole life is not what she ever wanted, living with a roommate much younger than her, treating her like she didn’t deserve any respect at all, and with a job that was never meant for her. but life changes so fast and she acquires something she never thought she could have, something that will change her life forever making her past a vague memory that she never wants to recall.
Dimitri a handsome young man, with a bright future in his hands, a future that he is not so kin to and is ready to make his own future, very far away from his family that had never appreciated him or value him at all, he has so much talent a talent that he keeps hiding but in time will bring so much joy to his life.
The Little Bookshop of love stories is the story of making stories, it is a book where the imagination flows and comes alive, where we get to feel very emotional but at the same time very happy and moved that this story is coming alive, while I turn the pages I felt like the bookshop really existed and I wanted to walk there and meet all the ladies on the book club, eat cookies and browse around the magnificent titles on each shelve.
The Little Bookshop of love stories is a book that brings so much love and great ideas to continue showing love to the ones you love the most.
it is a book that brings so much joy but at the same time hope and faith light and joy…
