But when one of its distinguished visitors is found hanging from the island’s famous lighthouse in what appears to have been a murder, the peace is shattered. Commander Adam Dalgliesh is called in to handle the … handle the sensitive case, but at a difficult time for him and his depleted team. He is uncertain about his future with his girlfriend Emma Lavenham; his principle detective Kate Miskin is going through an emotional crisis; and the ambitious Sergeant Francis Benton-Smith is not happy about having a female boss. pd james always delivers . every time i had to stop reading I wanted to hurry up and get back to it.
Always enjoy P. D. James!
You can’t go wrong with P.D. James. Interesting characters and mysteries always.
Dalgliesh is called to Coombe Island to investigate a body hanging in the lighthouse. But this retreat for the rich and influential, just off the Cornish coastline, is stalked by more than a killer. Hint: written in 2005, there was a certain virus making the world news at the time… and PD James is not above giving her protagonist a very hard time. Love this book. Love most PD James mysteries. If you don’t like descriptive passages, this author is not for you. But if you want to walk in the feet of the hero, see the mystery through his eyes, no one does that better than James.
Intelligent descriptions and great characters.
You have to read more than one of her mysteries. Great plots!
