Sisterhood, safety, and secrets – it all happens at the lighthouse on Five Island Cove.Five best friends. Five islands in the cove. In this small town East Coast island community, people only think they know everyone else’s business. But the secrets are as thick as the fog on a winter night, and even the lighthouse might not be able to shine through them all… When Joel Shields dies, Robin’s …
When Joel Shields dies, Robin’s only goal is to get her four best friends back to Five Island Cove to celebrate the life of Kristen’s husband. One by one, the women are embroiled in the way Joel’s life reached out and intertwined with each of theirs, some in sweet ways, and some in ways so horrific, Robin realizes she didn’t at all know the man she’d seen face-to-face almost every day of her life.
They gather to the lighthouse, which has always been a safe haven, a place of sanctuary, and a beacon of hope for a brighter future for each of them, to talk as they always have.
Kristen leads the group as she always has, though she’s drowning in grief and family drama. Eloise brings news of a second chance at love, and Alice confesses how unhappy she is despite her riches. AJ can’t get her boyfriend to commit, and Kelli is completely overwhelmed with guilt for her refusal to forgive her own father.
As Robin tries to hold them all together, she too breaks down and admits that her husband wants to leave Five Island Cove for better fishing grounds in Alaska. As they work together to find the truth and what it means to each of them personally, they learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to what does: faith, family, and friendship.

Couldn’t get into this story. Goes very slow at the start. Won’t finish it.
I loved reading about these women. I wanted to know more about their lives.
I had high hopes of becoming immersed in a story set on an island, but I felt there was more attention paid to describing how a character moved from one side of a room to the other than to the sights and sounds evoked by proximity to the sea. I couldn’t identify with any of the characters, although I did have some empathy for Kristen. I was planning to read the rest of this series, but couldn’t even bring myself to finish this book.
Hard to keep track of all the characters, but worth reading.
Held my interest. Couldn’t wait to.finish it. Well written! Need more books like this.
I liked it. It is all about strong female friendships. I read it in 24 hours, and enjoyed it. About how a group of friends help their mentor who lost her husband, and the husband had many secrets. Good book I recommend it.
I loved this book and the series.
All the girls were so believable and
interacted so well. The islands were
Great
This was a very good book! Love the characters.
It told the story of multi generation friendships
A great story of friendships renewed, secrets and healing.
Thanks much for an enjoyable read.
The Lighthouse is a story filled with desires, the desire of Robin to reunite with her friends from the Seafaring Girls and her desire to comfort Kristen after the death of her husband, Joel Shields. The four friends agree to come to Five Island Cove, some willingly and others reluctantly. In the course of their interactions they discover secrets that cause them to question their relationships with each other and with the man who was so prominent in their lives. It is a story that reveals how each of the women feel about their lives and follows their journeys throughout this time. A heartwarming story that is well written by Jessie Newton. Not an easy story as it explores how deeply unhappy people can be in spite of all the success that they have achieved but it also shows that when brought to the surface circumstances and feelings can be changed. An inspiring read.
I loved this story. After great tragedy, it brings all these ladies together and through their friendship they were able to help each other in good times and bad times. Liked all the characters and plan to read more books by this author.
The Lighthouse by Jessie Newton is a sweet story about friendships, the passing of time and rekindling friendships after going away and coming back. This is a story about five women who have drifted apart and when one friend’s husband dies, returning and remembering their sisterhood and friendship. It is a story about life and relationships with best friends.
This was a B&N serial read where a few chapters were delivered each day to my Nook reader until the book was complete. It is a great way to meet new authors. I found that the leisurely pace of the book was relaxing and I enjoyed the interaction of all the women in the story.
“The Lighthouse (Five Island Cove, book 1)” by Jessie Newton was a really good suspense novel. The death of Joel Shields brings these ladies back to Five Island Cove. Robin is the only one of the 5 friends that still lives there. She needs to get Kelli, Elloise, AJ, and Alice to come back for the funeral and to help Joel’s wife Kristen who was there for them when they were younger. Secrets come out ad lives will be changed.
This is a book that haunts you after you read it. It involves a sisterhood who return to their hometowns to attend a funeral. The book explores their lives and the paths they have taken.
I loved reading about these women and ‘ve enjoyed the 2 have read in the series and look forward to reading the rest in the series.
Just takes you away from every day life.
It was a pleasant story, with a few holes that left me thinking, “there must be more to this”. I would have liked to have seen deeper character development, but I enjoyed getting to know each of them anyway.
This book actually the first that I have read by this author. She made the book sound so real. This actually happens in life. The women and the things they had to deal with was enough to send a few of them over the edge though they held on to each other. I would recommend the book to everyone to read.
