Sisterhood, safety, and secrets – it all happens at the lighthouse on Five Island Cove.Five best friends. Five islands in the cove. In this small town East Coast island community, people only think they know everyone else’s business. But the secrets are as thick as the fog on a winter night, and even the lighthouse might not be able to shine through them all… When Joel Shields dies, Robin’s …
When Joel Shields dies, Robin’s only goal is to get her four best friends back to Five Island Cove to celebrate the life of Kristen’s husband. One by one, the women are embroiled in the way Joel’s life reached out and intertwined with each of theirs, some in sweet ways, and some in ways so horrific, Robin realizes she didn’t at all know the man she’d seen face-to-face almost every day of her life.
They gather to the lighthouse, which has always been a safe haven, a place of sanctuary, and a beacon of hope for a brighter future for each of them, to talk as they always have.
Kristen leads the group as she always has, though she’s drowning in grief and family drama. Eloise brings news of a second chance at love, and Alice confesses how unhappy she is despite her riches. AJ can’t get her boyfriend to commit, and Kelli is completely overwhelmed with guilt for her refusal to forgive her own father.
As Robin tries to hold them all together, she too breaks down and admits that her husband wants to leave Five Island Cove for better fishing grounds in Alaska. As they work together to find the truth and what it means to each of them personally, they learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to what does: faith, family, and friendship.

Very interesting characters and easy to read. Well written.
I loved this book! Ididn’t want it to end, this was my First book by this author it won’t be my last. Great story telling!!!
Enjoyable.
Good story but a tiny bit sappy. Sometimes unrealistic. Still, the writing itself is sophisticated so the story flowed. I read the whole book quickly.
This is the first book that I have read by Jessie Newton and I can’t wait for the rest of the books to come out. I really enjoyed this book. I felt sorry for Kristen for losing her husband and I was so glad when the girls from her Seafaring group came back to be with her. They helped her alot and each girl was working through their own issues as well. I really enjoyed this book and I think you will too.
Robin Grover’s plan is to get her best friends back on the island with her as their mentor’s husband has died, some take more coaching then others to come back to a place they have left, Secrets are revealed and painful pasts are dug up as they learn how deep friendship can be and what they need to do to better themselves and eachother.

The lighthouse is a book about friendships, death and being human. A death of an icon brings five women together after years of being apart. True friendships are rekindled and they find out that the relationships are still there and important to each of them. This book came at the perfect time, with what’s happening in the world now, to show that love conquers all. I’m looking forward to reading the next book! I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for leaving my honest review.
I couldn’t put this one down- Jessie Newton is a fabulous writer who knows how to keep you reading. I think I read this in less than a day. Not because it was all fluff, but because I didn’t walk away from the book until I was done. Definitely will follow the series!
THE LIGHTHOUSE is women’s fiction and the first book in the FIVE ISLAND COVE series. There are complex, lifelong friendships among women who haven’t seen each other in a long time.
When Joel, the former lighthouse keeper and a beloved member of the community as well as Kristen’s husband, dies, some negative things about him come to light. His newly learned secrets have a profound effect not only on his widow, but also on her five good friends.
Robin still lives on the island. Alice, AJ, Eloise, and Kelli have all gone on with their lives, and their hometown of Diamond Island provides different memories for each of them. But they each have their own secrets as well. When Robin does her best to reunite them back on the island for Joel’s funeral, the effect isn’t what she might have expected.
This wasn’t the easy beach read I thought it was going to be. At times it was emotional, and there was a darkness to the story filled with secrets and family dysfunction. I did love how the women seemed to pick up where they left off and tried to be there for each other. It was nice to see the interactions between some of the spouses and/or significant others as well as the children. There were quite a few twists to the story, which ended too abruptly with everyone heading back to their own lives once they left the island.
I read the first two chapters from the next book in the series, THE SUMMER SAND PACT, which was in the back of the book and it left me wanting more. It seems like it will segue nicely to the next stories being told. I look forward to reading it as well as the rest of the series and hope for better closure and more lightness.
A well written book revolving around the memories of a widow and the young women she had mentored when they where just girls. So many things where discovered that shocked and hurt them all. Secrets long kept reveled that the widow’s recently deceased husband had not been such a wonder man after all.
Each woman had a secret regarding him from their individual lives and even more recent secrets of their current lives. Life truly what you make it but that life has its foundation from all your year present and past.
I was totally engaged from the very beginning with the great character and storyline development that kept me turning the pages until the very end!
Love a good feel good story. Lifetime friends and small towns make an endearing story. Friends come together and each work through issues while supporting each other as friends do. Interesting characters and entertaining story make for a readable book. Would recommend!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but i was hooked from the get go, you totally connect with the characters and feel like yo go through all the ups and downs of emotions with them. With Joel’s death each and every one of the 6 women find out a secret relating to each of them and they must rely on each other not to let the new truths break them, the fact that each of them is already going through something already compounds things and makes you want to reach out and hug them and tell them it’s going to be OK. Now don’t worry there are still plenty of laughs, embarrassing moments and a sisterhood that we all want to strive for. I can not wait to read the next book so I can see whats install next for the ladies!!!

Book one in the Five Island Cove series a well written story that held my interest throughout. With the death of Joel Shields Kristen’s husband, Robin Grover calls Alice Keller, Eloise Hall, Kelli Thompson and AJ Proctor back to Five Island Cove. These women have their own stories and this book takes us on one thrilling ride as we find out more about them. I want to read the next book. Five Island Cove Series:
The Lighthouse #1 – This is my first read by this author and I was surprised by the interesting and substantial storylines.
The multiple storylines contain the foundation of several women with just enough details of their lives to understand them without too much boring fodder. There’s is no stupidity formula or Hollywood-style drama, but a steady pace through discoveries made about the deceased and themselves.
The characters have good dialogues and personalities. No drama queens. Some are more interesting than others, as in real life, but these ladies show the depth of th air live and appreciation for each other. This story appears to focus on Robin and Kristen’s solutions since this is a series. No vulgar language or sex.
